My next question is who is this person to this CEO? Are they playing favorites because they know them?
-
kmccmk93267y@iSwimInTheC Nope. All of us, including the new person are all college graduates from the same local college. Most of my team has been there for about 5 years. This new employee has been here less than a year
-
Another two guesses:
1. The new one is a pretty neat girl
2. The new one does fancy design stuff
;) -
kmccmk93267y@TylerDDevRant Your first guess would be correct. In fact she's the only one out of the entire company

@kmccmk9
There you have it ^^
And that is why I refuse to get on the gender equality train.
Like, "I want to be able to get an awesome job, like any man out there. What? You want me to drive through poop? How is this even considered a job? You want me to stand on a roof for hours in the burning sun? No way. There are enough handsome men out there to do this kind of jobs. I want to sit in a CEO chair. That's what I wanna do" -
jeeper58097y@Brosyl basically this. A lot of guys have shit groupthink culture about their job but it’s an even more exclusionary culture in the trades. Women are asking for better office jobs because a large plurality were driven to be secretaries so the better jobs they saw were executive positions. They were so heavily culturally excluded from trades they largely haven’t even considered them.
It’s weird how all this was pretty much set up in the 20 or so years after WWII, right after many women just learned trade skills after working in factories, but here we are. There’s a longer history to women’s rights of course, but office culture fight was staged right on this time period. -
Fexell6567yI'm in a similar situation, though I'm sitting with Mac right now. Just that at start of next month I'm gonna have to give it up (move to windows computer), because, and I quote: "she cannot sit on anything else than a Mac".

@TylerDDevRant
I think all employees should be treated & paid equal for equal work, with no negative nor positive discrimination. Paying a female dev less is not OK, but hiring her just to get to a quotum is not good either — gender is irrelevant, show me your skills.
I don't think this can ever be enforced society-wide as it's extremely difficult to detect... an HR employee will always select subjectively, so until we replace HR with AI there will be sexist hiring practices.
But if it happens in your company, it would be advisable to correct it, as anything other than meritocratic selection will seriously hurt performance.
And yeah some will not find jobs if they're unwilling to step out of their comfort zone (my girlfriend is learning to be a parttime welder) — and some will suck figurative or literal cock for money because they think that's all they're good for.
All fine. The market is a filthy game, play it filthy.
Falling for the boob trap as a CEO is just dumb though.
A very exploitable weakness... does he have a wife? -
hasu23186y@TylerDDevRant uhm... my mum was told off by society for trying to go study " nah you are a woman! What do you wanna get a university degree for? You are going to have kids anyway and a husband to feed. " later:
"Oh you want to become a trades woman? Thats worse then being a whore!" - and that's from her family.
Whenever guys go in female dominated professions like primary school teachers for example, they get their asses kissed and will be prefered all the time. And nobody talks about this side of things for some reason...
I see how some things can go too far and some resulting in inequality. But pls. There is a reason for this movement.

Work at a pro Microsoft company.
CEO wants an app so I explain that we will need a Mac to build the apple version of the apps. Refuses to buy us a Mac. For two years this goes on. Out of nowhere a new employee asks for the same Mac and the CEO goes out and buys $2000 without even thinking. We fought to the nail for a Mac for two years so we could do our job...they get one just for being new. My entire team feels completely insulted and betrayed
