I contacted the creators of Nova Launcher because I want the full version. They have both an google play upgrade as an input code upgrade.

Since I dont have any google service anywhere I contacted them to ask how to get such a code because I dont have any google service. This was their reply:
"You would need to purchase the app via the Google Play Store, then once you have, email us a copy of the receipt and the email you used to purchase the app with, then we can give you a Direct License to use since you don't have Google Play Services."

How do I buy it if I dont have any fucking google service?

Can you do it through the website?

@Jilano their site doesnt have any way to buy something, otherwise they would have told me.

@Codex404 Fair enough. What about the web version of the playstore? I never tried to see if it could actually work without having to do anything on the phone.

@Jilano that would mean I have to get a gmail address and surrender my data to google.

Last I checked you could purchase apps through Google Play website on any computer, as long a suou were signed in with a Google account, is that not still the case?

@hexc then I would need a google account, and surrender my info to google.

@Codex404 well you cant buy a digital product without an account to link to it these days. If you just didn't want Google services on your android device, this at least lets you keep your device from having any Google related software/accounts on it.

@hexc I dont mind having an account somewhere, its just google that I dont like.

And that is something I can live with. And I dont blame them for not offering another way to buy it, I just blame them for stupid answers.

@Codex404 Ah, why the Google hate? They provide so many invaluable services to eveyone. Look at Google search, where would we be without it... I guess you could get an iPhone and not worry about using any Google stuff though. 🤔

@Codex404 Well, obviously you have to be careful with your data, but if you create a Google account with fake information and only use it to buy Nova Launcher, what do they know about you? 🤔

@hexc Im sure @linuxxx can explain the google hate way better than me so im not gonna burn my fingers on that, but if I go for apple the same problem exists. With Android I have control over what I run and what I dont run, there is less google on my android phone then I could ever have on an iPhone.

@gamingfail123 my payment details so my full name, probably address and whatever else payment providers supply.
  • 2
@ArcaneEye and still supply them with complete info about me?

@ArcaneEye @gamingfail123 @hexc Its just one of the consequences of caring a litle bit for your privacy.

I dont really mind and to be honest it has made my life quite a bit calmer.

not that I'm encouraging such things, but things like this is what leads to there being cracked versions. Not that Ive ever used lucky patcher myself, or would know that there is already one publicly available, or that the url is.... (ah I better not push it lol. )

Also never used nova, but Apex has served me well for many years, and most themes are cross-compatable

@hexc @Codex404 Yes of course let me explain 😊

    My concerns:
    - it tracks user's in numerous ways by default and for non tech people that's hard to opt out.
    - they created a browser which spies on its users by default. (phoning home what sites they visit etc)
    - they're integrated within the biggest mass surveillance system ever created. Anything you do through Google will directly end up in world's most non-regulated spying agency.

@hexc And where would we be without it? In a better place.

It's not that difficult to go without it :)
