Google is full of assholes!
Just paid $25 dollars to list my app on google play store. Within 15 minutes of submitting the app, it got de-listed.
Reason:
Impersonation
Who am I impersonating?
The logo is impersonating the logo shown on MY OWN website!!!
How dafuq can you impersonate your own intellectual property?????
Contacted them back using their form. Didn't even call them "cunts". Asked to have it reviewed.
After waiting 7 business days, started sending them 1 email a day. On day 11 I sent 100 identical email asking them to review it.
Today (day 12), they cleared the app. I got this reply back.
"We found that your app was not in violation of our policies"
-Google40 -
"This is not an application: it's a bug pretending to be an application." (This comment was left as an app review on Google Play Store)4

So I wanted to send an email to Microsoft to request a feature in their new "To-Do" app.
I went to the play store and scrolled down to the end where it says "Send an email to developer".
Clicked on that. And here is the email address:
"noreply@microsoft.com"

Upload App to Google Play:
- Build APK file in Unity
- Pay $25 = €20 one-time fee
- Fill in the details
- Upload for review
Upload app to App Store:
- Pay $99 = €99 yearly fee
- Borrow someone's MacBook because buying one just for development is not worth it.
- Install Unity on that Mac
- Failed to install Xcode because it doesn't have the latest OS version
- Adds app to Itunes Connect and find out the name is already in use (no problem on Google Play)
- Asks friend to look for the same app name --> not found
- Create certificates for both iOS development and deployment
- Goes to another friend for their mac and add their iPhone's UDID (You need a mac for that)
- Install Unity and Xcode
- Open project I saved on a USB drive
- Build to iOS and gets stuck at some point --> couldn't fix
- devrant.com because I once more need a mac
Apple please let me just export a game without the need of a $1000 overpriced machine.38 -
We had a Commodore64. My dad used to be an electrical engineer and had programs on it for calculations, but sometimes I was allowed to play games on it.
When my mother passed away (late 80s, I was 7), I closed up completely. I didn't speak, locked myself into my room, skipped school to read in the library. My dad was a lovely caring man, but he was suffering from a mental disease, so he couldn't really handle the situation either.
A few weeks after the funeral, on my birthday, the C64 was set up in my bedroom, with the "programmers reference guide" on my desk. I stayed up late every night to read it and try the examples, thought about those programs while in school. I memorized the addresses of the sound and sprite buffers, learnt how programs were managed in memory and stored on the casette.
I worked on my own games, got lost in the stories I was writing, mostly scifi/fantasy RPGs. I bought 2764 eproms and soldered custom cartridges so I could store my finished work safely.
When I was 12 my dad disappeared, was found, and hospitalized with lost memory. I slipped through the cracks of child protection, felt responsible to take care of the house and pay the bills. After a year I got picked up and placed in foster care in a strict Christian family who disallowed the use of computers.
I ran away when I was 13, rented a student apartment using my orphanage checks (about €800/m), got a bunch of new and recycled computers on which I installed Debian, and learnt many new programming languages (C/C++, Haskell, JS, PHP, etc). My apartment mates joked about the 12 CRT monitors in my room, but I loved playing around with experimental networking setups. I tried to keep a low profile and attended high school, often faking my dad's signatures.
After a little over a year I was picked up by child protection again. My dad was living on his own again, partly recovered, and in front of a judge he agreed to be provisory legal guardian, despite his condition. I was ruled to be legally an adult at the age of 15, and got to keep living in the student flat (nation-wide foster parent shortage played a role).
OK, so this sounds like a sobstory. It isn't. I fondly remember my mom, my dad is doing pretty well, enjoying his old age together with an nice woman in some communal landhouse place.
I had a bit of a downturn from age 18-22 or so, lots of drugs and partying. Maybe I just needed to do that. I never finished any school (not even high school), but managed to build a relatively good career. My mom was a biochemist and left me a lot of books, and I started out as lab analyst for a pharma company, later went into phytogenetics, then aerospace (QA/NDT), and later back to pure programming again.
Computers helped me through a tough childhood.
They awakened a passion for creative writing, for math, for science as a whole. I'm a bit messed up, a bit of a survivalist, but currently quite happy and content with my life.
I try to keep reminding people around me, especially those who have just become parents, that you might feel like your kids need a perfect childhood, worrying about social development, dragging them to soccer matches and expensive schools...
But the most important part is to just love them, even if (or especially when) life is harsh and imperfect. Show them you love them with small gestures, and give their dreams the chance to flourish using any of the little resources you have available.22 -
I was in school and I got bored. I opened two command prompts and did what any scammer would do.
I went to the root of the drive and did a tree. The other window is pinging google infinitely.
After a few seconds, I hear a kid say "Are you hacking the pentagon?". That guy also asked me to hack the Google Play Store. He shall forever think I'm a hacker.36 -
The original story:
"When I've got my very first android I was downloading any shit from Play Store. There was app called pattern security or something like that. The app was taking selfies everytime power button was pressed several times and then photo would sent to email. One day I left my old phone at home and at the office this is the photo i've received."11 -
Few months ago I made an app for my buddy. Because it was simple soundboard app (it literally took me 15 minutes) I haven’t took any money. He said it’s for personal use only...
So he released it under his name on Google Play Store... And now he asks me to add advertisements... For free... When I asked him what can I get from it, he said “you can add your name to Credits”
That’s how you loose trust and buddies!25 -
I uploaded a release APK to Play Store with the API host set to the local address I used in dev 192.168.x.x:8000 :/8

I don't know why @dfox , @trogus didn't want a username with underscore and I'm sure they must be having some valid reason for it. But how in fuck did this user have the guts to rate the app 1 star simply because it doesn't have a login with fb feature? I mean you can request for a feature but it's dumb of you to rate 1 star because it doesn't have a feature you want. This is true for any app not only devRant.

Something I grind my teeth on very hard just recently,
Mum: son, why does this always showing up on my phone (a Samsung J something)
*sent a screenshot of some antivirus adware opening on chrome
Me: mum, that might be a virus, how long has it been happening?
Mum: I don't know, a month probably, since your nephew always uses it to play games, BTW it automatically opens up everytime I open whatsapp
Me: *facepalm, and you never thought to tell me until now?
Mum: I never thought it would be, and also i got this recently
*screenshot of some SMS from shady subscription, notifying some failure in subscribing whatever it is they are offering
Me: *double facepalm, let's put that aside for now, that adware seems to be happening on Chrome, can you try to remove the tabs
*spent 2 hours to instruct on how to close chrome tabs
Me: ok, just go to my friend's place (he own a phone store, and he did the fixes & repairs himself), bring it to him, I'll tell him the situation.
Mum: ok, maybe tomorrow, I can't today,
....next day
Mum: it's still happening, the thing keeps popping up
Me: then maybe you should go to my friend's place ASAP *me starting to lose patience
Mum: but it's ok, your sister uninstalled the Chrome
Me: *triple facepalm, [FFS sis, you are an IT major], so where does it pops up now?
*screenshot of popup ad from default browser
*screenshot of the apps installed in the phone, there are 25+ of those shitty minecraft shooter game installed on it
Mum: it pops up from different one than before, but your sister also deleted it just now
Me: *cries, mum..., please..., go..., to..., my friend's..., place...., AS SOON AS YOU CAN, for now please delete EVERYTHING game related in that thing
Mum: ok, I'll remove it, I'll head over to your friend's maybe tomorrow
Me: thank you, very, much
...5 minutes later
Sis: Maybe I should give mum my Iphone, Samsung is awful, this never happened on Iphone before
Me: *shuts off my phone30 -
Devs, if you're developing an app that's targeted to the country Georgia, you better make absolutely sure it doesn't have in-app purchases. For some reason, Google Play Store blocks those apps for Georgia. Even the free apps.6

So I'm searching for jobs and found one wanting an app developer, but on the website it says this:
"Be up to date with IOS and Play Store Coding language"
So with that in mind anyone know where I can learn Play store coding language?
Lol what a fucking joke...12 -
Tech support to my friend:
Friend: Root my phone!
Me: why
Friend: play store is not working
Me: why do u want to root for that?
Friend: is there any other option?
Me: give me ur phone
After 20 sec ...
Me: Sign in to ur Google account 😐😐4 -
Boss: We need this update deployed and propagated before end of day.
Web: done!
Android: done!
iOS:...
Boss: what's the matter?
iOS: 2-3 business days, sir.
Apple and its app review process. Ugh!9 -
Best: My first app on the play store got over 2000 downloads in 3 days, best Christmas present ever.
Worst: An update I published caused an equivalent of 1/4 of my user base worth of crashes. :/9 -
I was an Android developer in a company, I was told to generate a release APK file to test it locally.
So, to sign the apk, I created a keystore file and the password is my name. they decided to publish the file on Play Store.
I left the company years ago, and still on every update they have to put my name as a password.5 -
Hey everyone - I just wanted to update our Android users on the push notification crash that has been occurring.
The good news is the issue should be fixed in the update I just pushed out (should be available in the Google Play Store within a few hours). We apologize for the crashes and thank everyone for their patience.
I'm still looking in to what actually happened here. Our GCM library hasn't been updated in a while and all of a sudden a specific case started failing. I'll continue to look in to how that seemingly happened with no changes in the app. Some other users of the library started experiencing the same issue.25 -
Maybe you have heard about YouTube Music...
In the Google Play Store it's the number 1 music App, Spotify behind it.
So I took a look at the stats:
YouTube Music:
- 50 Million Downloads
- 4.3 stars rating
Spotify:
- 100 Million Downloads
- 4.5 stars rating
Now change my mind:
Google promotes their products by just placing them on top of everything.16 -
On 30th December 2017, exactly a year ago, I was bored and was browsing Play Store where I was suggested devRant.
I was introduced to a new world of interesting people who had similar life struggles and challenges.
I ranted here a lot. Soon became fourth top user and currently the second I guess with all the digital votes.
What's more important is, I made so many good friends whom I shared so much about myself which I would never do in real life with anyone.
I don't even know the names and location of most of you but have learnt a lot from you all. The emotional connection is beyond words.
I am thankful to you people.
Last one year has changed me a lot. My stupid manager and the ass licker have taught me a lot on how to live in a corporate world.
And do you guys remember my crush about whom I used to be stressed a lot because I was serious about, but could not talk due to my shyness?
Well, just last month our mutual friend told me that she got engaged and possibly will be marrying soon. Yes, I am devastated. My friend helped me move on and taught me some skills. Lots of life lessons learned.
My priorities and aim in life have changed. I am clear about my vision.
I also used to crib about my shitty job and with all the lay offs, I have applied internally to another project with a role switch. I hope it goes well and I get the transfer.
Some things are fucked up, some are good while some remain as they are.
I am back here and will be ranting about my life and connecting with you all crazy heads because sometimes, the virtual life is better than the real life.
I not sure whether life is fun or sad because of ups and downs. But one thing for sure that things happen at right time with right people at right place.
Best things are never planned or anticipated.
Sometimes when you look back, it's all different. You never wanted it to happen, but you deserved it maybe because you being prepared for something.
Sometimes you do want to undo past but somethings are better left as they are.
You become a person you never wanted to be but have to because situations and circumstances force you to be. You regret but have no option or control over it.
Life is unfair and worst part is, it is never unfair in your favour.
Above all, life goes on.. it goes on...21 -
Not my own rant, but when I see some user asking for refunds on a free app, I just gotta share it. See the developer's heart-warming response.17
-
If only it was this simple. Hi all, im new, I found this app while window shopping the play store, after reading some of the daily post, I think im gonna stay :) i wish your code the best. *returns to staring at compiling error for the next 3 hours*1
-
Oh excuse me, can you not read the news article? You might wanna install our app from the google play store.
Well, I could read the article just fine, if you wouldn't cover the whole screen with that pop up.5 -
* I send an APK so that my client can test*
My client: I can't install the application
Me: Did you download and install it from the email I sent you?
client: No I downloaded from the play store.
(In my mind: Why the fuck do you Download it from the play store? I fucking sent you an email to 3 of your fucking email addresses so that you can fucking test the fucking APK that I fucking fixed it for you! You fucking worthless peice of shit!)
But I reacted as: No no, you should download the apk from the email I sent. I've sent it to all your email addresses.
client: I can't find the APK In your email.
(In my mind: Wow! I just don't get it! How can you be so stupid? I'm just wondering how your company hired you as a 'director for X')
*I send him a Screenshot proving that the apk exists*
Turns out that this idiot doesn't know to use outlook for Android! He then logs in to his gmail and finds the apk.(Coz I had emailed it to his outlook and gmail accounts)
M just wondering, should I drop this guy? Or charge him 2x for this shit?7 -
Try to click quickly on this button multiple times and the play store will crash. If you implement this sort button on your own app this will crash too. #google_guidelines 😡16

Trend of the day:
1. Facebook is really compromising user privacy, will delete my account!
2. Post about deleting Fb account to twitter, instagram, etc
3. "Ok google, what is privacy?"
4. Find a random app in play store and allow access regardless20 -

Just bumped into this app on Play Store yesterday.
I've never really felt so addicted to any social network before.
I can't seem to put my phone down. And if I do, I find myself coming back to it!9 -
The USB plug is only working for charge, so I have to test uploading the app to the Play Store. I'm too lazy to configure some ADB over Wi-Fi so it's easier for me to do this. Also, Android emulator is really heavy, I don't want to run it.14

Last night I was feeling bored so I got an idea and made this app. well in morning even I published this on play store.
It’s a completely useless application where you not supposed to touch anything.
but still you want to give it a try and want to give more useless ideas then here is the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
just remember don't touch anything31 -

The time when I've felt like a badass, was when I was bored at a Birthday party at restaurant.
I didn't want to use my mobile data, so I tried to use the wifi of the restaurant. I didn't want to ask the password of the wifi, so I tried to get access by guessing. At first try I got it by entering "nameOfRestaurantCurrentYear".
Then I was browsing Play Store and there was a recommendation of an app (forgot the name) that analyses which the device is connected to wifi. So that got me interested that I installed on my phone.
So I played a little with and discover several Samsungs and iPhones connected to it (Some of the them had their real name next to the brand. It would be funny to yell their name out loud and they would be looking around.)
But there was one device that I didn't recognized. I searched on the web but found nothing. So later as I go to pay my part, I noticed that the credit card device had a wifi icon on it. So I looked over to the cash register and saw the name of the brand. It was the brand I didn't know of.
So basically they were using transfer payments over a public wifi.12 -
After continuously trying to approve my Unity app on app store. I was finally able to do it in just 6 months. Thanks to the 'robust and fast' process of Apple.
If only Android could learn from from them. They took only an hour.6 -
Excuse me, What the fuck?
This happened to me. some guy (or gal) rated my app 2 stars just because it couldn't download my app.
later on it replied me with a sorry message and said that app is really good. but it did'nt increased the stars 😑9 -
Story time:
Yesterday I wanted to go to the theater with my girlfriend. It was her idea because as a student you can get reduced tickets for the play, but only via the online store exactely two hours before the play starts. We had already tried two weeks before but with no success. So this time I said i want to be on my pc with a proper browser and not a mobile version like last time. So we are sitting at home me in front of their website on one screen and with a clock on the other screen. Two minutes realy i hit refresh and I get a selection for the reduced tickets, nice.
You would think.
After selecting the amount. ERROR: Can not get your tickets. I was like fuck they are already sold out because it's a popular play. But hey let's try again. I got one ticket but not the second one, okay strange lets try again, same ERROR again. WHAT the FUCK, no feedback what so ever. My girlfriend had then the idea that they maybe restricted the amount for reduced tickets to one (does not state this explicitly but hey lets give it a shot). Use second browser select one ticket. ERROR can not get you the amount of seats. Rage level near to a 1000 why did it work two minutes before but not anymore. Trying around for five more minutes finally got the second ticket.
Now the real fun begins.
Proceeding to checkout should not be that hard you would think, but you need to be registered for that. Okay so let's do that. The salutation is not required neither is the address for the tickets but you need to have a company name??!!!!! The fuck?? I am not self employed and neither are a most other people around here so why is this field mandatory? Beeing a little under stress I decided to found the "asdf" company with my girlfriend.
Now one would think checking out is easy. Not so fast.
After accepting the terms of service another ERROR, unable to accept your data. What data? I did not input anything new? Where does this come from? Ok never mind I am going to pay with credid card that must work!
ERROR: Internal paymentservice initialization failure! Sorry what? I thought maybe I was to long idle in this browser and they do not reserve the tickets for so long (which would be no surprise to me at this point). Let's try again. Nope same error.
Now my rage level was really over 9000 but we really wanted to go so I decided to call the customer SUPPORT. Or better to say I had a answering maching telling me for ten minutes how sorry they are that this takes so long, yeah you bet. Then and this is now really great: the support guy asks me: "What error do you see? Internal paymentservice initialization failure?" I was like, okay he knows this so they need to know how to handle it. FUCK NO. "Sorry I can't help you. This is our payment system maybe they (IT) are doing some maintenance I can't halp you. Call the theater directly good day." Sorry what just happened, you fuckers are the vendors for the tickets for nearly all big events around here and the theater explicitly states to call you for tickets but you can not help me? Like hell.
This process took 25 very frustrating minutes and I was really angry and wanted to quit, then I saw that there is also a paypal option which I had not tried. With very little hope i selected everything for the payment, registered with paypal and they told me I already had an account. So reactivated this five year old account payed with all the mobile passwords and tans to finally, after 30 fucking minutes, get a pdf file for a ticket. Repeated the last step for the second ticket and with some time left to get there we were off.3 -

Hi Guys!
I just started using devRant and I am amazed by the look of it!
Since I saw it on Google Play store, I browse through rants 4-5 times per day and I finally decided to make first rant myself.
I just wanted to say hi to everybody who's using devRant!3 -
I hate the fact I can't have any original idea. Everything I want to develop is already present on play store.7

Was reviewing a fun ball game on Play Store and Google decides to troll me.
Seriously what the fuck Google?
Yes the game is sad af. I am in depressions now and pay for my therapy.
Yes, this ball game taught me how to play a Piano. I am playing with city orchestra next weekend.
Umm... Not sure whether it is a bowling game but it sure has balls in it.30 -
I created a random website a month ago (a project which took me about 2-3 weeks)... made for developers.
But unfortunately I didn't find anyone interested, just a few users that used it once (ok, I spent nothing for marketing and posted it only on my Twitter and on Product Hunt).
Anyway this is it: https://reviewti.me/
I spent about $4 for the domain, maybe someone will find it useful and it wasn't a waste of time and "money". 😅
Please don't see this as spam, I earn nothing (free website, 0 ads), I created it just for fun and maybe to be a little useful for app developers.
If it isn't for you, just tell me what do you think about it (if you want).
Thanks!18 -
When I showed my code to my friends devs after 4 years of programming and I was thinking that it was bad code and all the friends said that its fucking great code I was so proud well now its 9 years and making my app so I can publish it on play store.
Have made a lot of android apps but this one is going on Play store so it will be more intense2 -
It has come to my attention that people like to read!
Specifically, I mean that a lot of ranters like fiction.. :D
I've been trying to decide on something to write for a while now, and I think I have it..
"The Traveler" (name open to suggestions)
The Traveler is a magic-based fantasy where our main character travels between world's using ancient stone portals (think: Stargate) and uses her unique powers to play god.
Each world she visits will equal to a different story, and she might play a good or bad guy (or both) depending on what the world has in store for her.
Her powers will include my WIP magic system from RISE, as well as some extra querks that aid the flow of the story.
I may still work on RISE, and I will keep in mind that The Traveler and RISE come from the same universe (I think RISE will be a prequel to The Traveler, and tell the tale of how she got her powers, and the origin of the portals..)
Let me know your thoughts below! ^~^36 -
Well on my first job we had to integrate payment gateways in client apps for online payment. On my second week in office I published an app on the play store with payment gateway credentials for a different client cause they were there as default values. So the money for one client would go to the other. Nobody noticed it for two weeks and when they did, I thought I had just lost my job and also I would now have to pay all the losses out of my pocket but fortunately I didn't have to cause no transactions had yet been made. After that I always checked my integrations atleast five times before publishing. The incident scared the shit out of me but taught me the value of developer responsibility.2

I released my first legitimate Android app to production a week or two ago, and it already has over 50 downloads on the Play Store! 😄😄😄12
-
My 5 yrs old nephew asked me to make a new Play Store for him. As his old one always asks to uninstall previous apps due to lack of storage! 😶10

Who else agrees that the play store should have a section which tells if an app needs a mandatory login to use it ? Like why the hell does a simple offline planner todo app need you to sign-up if you don't wanna use cloud backup. Jeez the user just trusted you by spending valuable time and bandwidth downloading your app. You owe it to him to show him some features of the app before shoving a sign up in his face. As an app developer myself I really think that this kind of behaviour turns off more users than anything else.2

Hello @dfox , i have read the Spanish description of devRant app on play store and is a little weird. As a native spanish speaker, I'll give you a little suggestions to (maybe) help you.
"Una comunidad de la diversión para los desarrolladores conectarse a través de código, tecnología y la vida como programador"
Is better to understand the following text:
"Una comunidad de diversión para desarrolladores, para conectarse a través del código, tecnología y la vida como programador."
Another thing, the text: "devRant is a fun community for developers to share and bond over their successes and frustrations with code, tech, and life as a programmer!"
Could be translated as: "devRant es una divertida comunidad de desarrolladores, para compartir y vincularse por medio de sus éxitos y frustraciones con el código, tecnología y ¡La vida como programador!"
I don't know if you set this texts in Spanish or if they are auto-translated, but I hope to help I little bit.
Never will be a exact translation, the key is share the idea in similar words, so, the spanish text I'd suggest to you may vary between countries.12 -
How did you all discover devRant?
Personally I haven't got a clue, just found it on the play store one day and bam25 -
I hate devRant. Since morning I am suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting. My stomach aches bad and I have a complete bed rest. I had nothing good to do, so I went through the play store searching for new apps. I came across devRant which seem interesting to me. I downloaded and went through the app. I read posts straight for four hours and couldn't resist LMAO. I've been constantly laughing (literally constantly) and now my stomach aches so bad. Its 22:00 and I fear I might have to catch a doctor soon. I know devRant is the culprit and yet I have it open, in my phone, typing a useless non-humorous post. Freaking addictive. Ah my stomach..6

Meet 'SBI Online' app from Play Store, in their own words:
What they were supposed to do?
"Experience the new Retail Internet Banking of SBI"
What they do?
"SBI online app will redirect to SBI Retail Internet Banking (online SBI) site"
Why do they have app?
"No need to remember URL",
"Less memory space required on device"
App storage space?
F**king 2.6 MB, just to redirect users to their website, in third-party browser.2 -
Hello everyone.
I've seen people doing story/rant to introduce themselves, and I never done that, probably because I'm terrible at doing so, and the more people their is, the more complicated it gets for me. 😥
Usually I try to blend in, and be the same color as the wall. But I want to try something different, so bear with me as I go through this painful process. 😶
So here I am, a lonely dev, who only have friends through a screen, living in a dark room only lit by green leds (tho sometimes it turn red/pink), lost in a small street of Paris. I usually avoid posting on social media, but here on devRant, I feel alright, somehow, it feels like home... 🤗
Started developing at 14 with html and php, then css and js (with the later still being a mystery to me). 🤔
I never really had a real job. Had 3 month as an intern into a human size web agency, and despite the recommandation they gave, I didn't like the job... Dropped from school and self learned everything I know today. Did a certain amount of personal projects, but no publication for lack of confidence. As of today, I'm 28. 🙂
Then a year and half ago, I changed to c# with unity3D, and I had a ton of fun since. 😄
Learned cg effect, texturing, 3d, a bit of animation. I'm working on a project of indi game with two people that are my only social interaction outside of my family, and now devRant. I don't mind being lonely tho. 😯
But this community is awesome, so I'm glad I stumbled across that sad face on the play store. 😄
Also it's 7:30am, I didn't sleep because of this post, I'm tired, and yes I'm an idiot.21 -
Hopefully seeing the app that I've been working on for months officially released and on both the App store and google play store.
I say this because I've been waiting months and months for my boss and some other people at this company to be done with the privacy policy + terms of use for the app (which is needed due to how the app works) and I want to resign soon due to minimum wage + 2 hour commute twice daily + want a proper development culture (get treated as the IT guy at work) -
not me ranting but it's a funny story about a rant
So I work on an Android app, that was literally copied from ios code, because the ios app development started 1.6 years earlier (business decision)
You have developers copying swift code to java, and the app is crap, full of bugs... I am the newest addition to the team so I'm currently cleaning up this mess.
Anyway, the ios app works perfectly, the Android app however has litterally 0 crash-free users.
So all of a sudden, one day at the office, I hear my fellow ios dev screaming " what the fuck, you retarded peace of shi?! this is fucking nonsense".
I'm like , guys, can someone re-boot him please? Wtf happened? (everyone laughing)
It turns out someone posted a review on apple store, 1 star, complaining that the app doesn't work on Android, and now the rating on Google play is higher than that on apple store.
He gets upset about it every day, and I'm like... fuck it, I'm not fixing no bugs if they go complain on apple store!!! 😂 And then he goes ranting about it again.3 -
Today I learned the hard way that losing your app's key store means no more updating , bug fixing , performance boosting , features adding ...
The app had like 5k downloads on the play store ..
Lost the key when one of my hard drives burned ..
Lesson of the day : keep your keys safe .
*trying to stay strong*3 -
I really, really don't understand people.
Made a post showing gameplay video from my game "Hang in There" - hundreds of like on it, people commenting how original it is, and that they want to play it "now".
Released the game a couple of days later... less than 15 installs - and the freaking game is FREE :/
Here it is, judge it yourself:

This is my worst day ever just formatted my laptop and forgot to backup my Android keystore........😤😤😬 Just visited stack overflow only to learn that without the keystore you can't make updates for your app.I will never update my apps on playstore now.... Shit. Am fucked totally...👹👹10
-
Shit that annoys me: People use the store (insert google play/apple/other) rating with one star to ask questions instead of fucking filling the stupid contact form or send an email to tech support.2
-
It's Google again.
With the new feature where one can see the latest release notes and update information on 'update screen' of Play Store app.
Buggers don't even provide release notes or keep the ones for years without having user to know what shit has been added or removed.
So my OCD kicks in today morning and I decide to update all the apps.
Well, Google Maps has an update for me. So I proceed to read the update information and bang! 💥
'No information has been provided by the developer'.
What??!!!!
Firstly Google never mentions the release notes and now is unable to handle the mistake correctly.
Why wouldn't they give the update notes??10 -
In image: "Downloading now, if it's good, I give it 2 more stars." And never came back.
Here in Brazil, it's not hard to find this kind of review in almost every single app, unfortunately.6 -
We are finally out !! Our First Game ever it's ready :D We are on the play store at the following link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
i'm the graphic (23yo, IT student) and my friend is the dev (27yo, IT graduated). He worked at this project for 2 years, i have helped him for the last year.
We finished the debugging and fixing like 2 days ago :) we are so proud of our first little son. Yup it's a marijuana zombie shooter game 😁
Let us know what do you think about it 😀
oh yes we did it with no budget and without any help 😅 we learned how to do it doing it 😉 (even unity, it took a year to my dev to learn how to use it) but finally we here to present Bongville to you guys :)
right now is completely AD free ;)
(for iOS & Windows phone will be released as soon as possible)21 -
**noob alert**
Hi all, I'm new to this community. I found it out couple of days back while downloading some apps on play store. And I don't know how much time have I spent here since then... Damm, I've an interview after 2 days.
My query is, I am stuck/confused. I have so many ToDos. ToDos to learn new things, from UI to other langs to machine learning to database to etc etc. And I keep on postponing it because I can't decide which way to go first. There is so much fuzz about BigData/AI which sounds cool. Sometimes I want to build UI for my imaginary idea, then somebody says a man must learn linux and DB. Top of that I'm preparing for interviews, so I think I should get a job first and then start learning. But when I get a job, I get *busy* with job. It feels like Captain America, all he does is official work. I sometimes feel like trying open source coding, but quit the idea because I get scared or overwhelmed by imagining the big community behind it and I won't be able to make a difference or I might get bashed by others as I get bashed in StackOverFlow :-(
I'm unable to get help from friends/family/colleagues, not because they are bad. It's just they don't get it. People think just because you have a job which pays the bills and save money, everything is fine because there are lots of people who dream to get a job, so be thankful for what you have. I'm thankful... But it's not helping. I really want to do things more than what my job asks me to. The kid inside me is awake since I became adult.
Have you been in this condition or is it just me? Or is it too confusing? Could you please help me out. Thanks a lot. Sorry for serious post. I'm a java programmer by the way.9 -
Hello guys... i came across this app on play store as a recommendation... and i am really impressed with it.. such a cool idea and an awesome place to rant... so i signed up and here goes my first rant... nice to meet you guys..15

<cheesy>
When I stumbled upon this app in the Play Store last week, I was not expecting such a good heartwarming community of intelligent individuals. I have a great time here. Thank you @dfox and @trogus for making such an awesome platform!
</cheesy>1 -
Please Google, allow us to disable that retarded Google translate thing you've got going on the play store.
Seriously, 90% of the apps' short description are absolutely unreadable because they insist on translating it to my device's language even if no translating is available.
I know it's probably useful to some people (the ones who don't understand English but somehow understand the human language equivalent of spaghetti-code, which I suspect is not many), but this needs to be disable-able, it makes the experience of discovering apps extremely awkward.7 -
Is it normal for every stupid, arrogant, selfish person to talk all kinds of bad stuff about my app and attack me personally on the play store? It's just a soundboard and it's free you pricks, be grateful for once and don't mind the god damn ads so much. I can't believe that shit.5
-
On Play Store if you double tap on an image it will zoom out instead of zooming in.
Thanks Google!2 -
I'm so glad I was recommended this app on the play store. I wouldn't have found it otherwise! Sincerely, a CS student that of course downloaded this app at 2AM.4

Promotion by cozyplanes myself
Find my game in play store, and you will get $100 play store credit.

What the actual fuck? Why is an app in the "Apps under 25MB" category 30MB large? What are you doing, Google!?8
-
My friend developed an app called "sendanyfile - WhatsApp, messenger" which can be used to send file of any extension via WhatsApp. A week later WhatsApp reported the app saying that it contains the word 'WhatsApp' in the app's title and removed the app from play store. Then 2 weeks later this happens....10

We've all had shitty jobs at one point or another, maybe some of us already had software engineering experience while having to work in a different field for a variety of reasons.
Well check this shit.
At one point(during my second year of school) for various reasons I had to work in retail. For those that know, retail can be a soul crushing experience...the trick is not letting management to convince you that it is an actual good job, it is not, and I have respect and sympathy for everyone currently working in it. The mind numbing retarded customers that we get are absolutely fantastic in every sense of the word.
My position in retail was as a phone salesman, for MetroPCS (which for all of y'all european ninjas is one of the low end phone carriers here in the U.S) and the people that we get as customers where I live are normally very poor which apparently in Mexican culture stands for annoyingly ignorant (I am Mexican myself, so I can really vouch for this shit)
One day a customer came in telling me that there was an app that he was using that kept giving him troubles, it was a map application for truck drivers. Now, obviously, this had nothing to do with my line of work(phone salesman) and as such I normally tried to explain that and let them be, but I imagined that it was a settings issue so I reluctantly agreed to help him. I explained to him that the app was no longer maintained and that the reason for it was probably that the developer abandoned it and that he would just have to look into the app, upon closer inspection the app itself was nothing more than a wrapper over google maps with trucker icons and a "trucker" interface, he was using the app as a GPS navigator and he could as well just have been using google maps.
The conversation was like this:
Me: Well this app is no longer supported, it will probably be taken off the google store soon, you can look for something similar or just change to Google maps
Retard: What? no! I came here in order for you to fix it, Metro needs to fix their own apps!
Me (in complete disbelief): We have no control over third party apps, and even for the ones that we provide the store has no control over them. But this app is not ours and so we can't really do anything about it.
Retard: Well WTF should I do? I have been having many issues with youtube and spotify, shouldn't Metro fix their Google store?
Me: Those apps are not ours.....wait, you seem to believe that we own youtube and spotify, those are not ours
Retard: How the fuck they are not yours! its your phone isn't it?
Me: Eh no.....Metro does not(at this point I was sort of smiling because I wanted to laugh) own youtube or spotify or the play store or even this phone, metro does not own Android or Samsung(his phone was a samsung core prime)
Retard: Well You need to fix this
Me: No I do not and I can not, the developer for this app abandoned it and has nothing to do with us
Retard: Well call the developer and tell him to fix it
At this point I was on a very bad mode since this dude was being obnoxiously rude from the beginning and it annoyed me how he was asking for dumb shit.
Me: Did you pay for this app?
Retard: No
Me: So you expect that some developer out there will just go about and get working for something that you did not pay for?
Why don't you just use Google maps as your GPS?
Retard: Don't be stupid, Google has no maps
At this point I show him the screen where there is a lil app that said maps, pressed it and voila! map comes to life
Retard: Well....I did not know
Me: Yeah....but I am the stupid one right?
** throws phone for him to catch
Me: Have a good one bud.
And my manager was right next to me, he was just trying to control his laughter the whole time. I really despised working in there and was glad when I left. Retail man.......such a horrible fucking world.7 -
For all those people with some great app ideas , visit play store just to find out other 69 fucking similar apps for the same shit you've been pitching me for the past hour.1

Recently I flashed Android 9 (Pie) on my Nexus, but to this day I still haven't logged into Google from it. One reason is because I don't know my password and I didn't git clone my password store yet (where it's contained). Another reason is because I want to reclaim my privacy and not be a data battery for a Matrix of convenience that feeds itself with my personal information. Eh, it sorta works out I guess. Yalp is an amazing alternative to the Play Store, and even offers its own shadow accounts to use along with Google Play.
One problem though, while I've noticed that I could log in with my own account to get all my premium apps (couple hundred euros worth, so not easy to just discard) it apparently violates Google Play's ToS to do so from a third-party app. So I'm a bit hesitant to do that. Do you know of any viable alternative way to preserve my privacy yet install, keep and have validated those premium apps? I could download them from e.g. BlueStacks and export the apk's, but that'd be tedious and wouldn't be able to get those apps validated on my phone unless I log into Google there as well (which kinda defeats the purpose). Any suggestions?23 -
Rant^2
WHO WANTS TO GUESS WHEN I WOKE UP TODAY?!?!?!?
5:30pm.... and not by my own will.... I got a feeling that I need to start going to bed earlier :(
Past week was REALLY busy BUT today is the day... day of glory! I just pushed LessonScheduler update!!!!
So....
@CptPie - Now you are able to set location of class and MOST OF german translation is in place already (not all of it. @Paramite, could you?)
@Wallpaper - now it is more then flexible enough to set lunch
@filthyranter - "alternating weeks" - now you can have as many schedules as you want (In other words: now it supports it)
@ELCapitan - most of german translations are in
@GodHatesMe - circles are bit bigger now
QUESTION:
Could you guys report if any bugs comes up?
Further plans:
Tomorrow planing to improve UI/UX and hopefully improve translations.
And somewhat soon add simple way to set Homeworks of some lesson13 -
Reason I am an Android Developer:
10% - I want to make apps to serve humanity
90% - Meh, just wanna write some cool Changelogs1 -
For some reason, I lost my devRant subscription. No label anymore... but I'm also not charged anymore.
Subscribing again doesn't seem to work, there's a success message from the app, but not from the play store (I have a valid payment method and have other subs), no fees are charged and my account stays unsubscribed.
Has anyone else experienced this?8 -
Project Cortana: Day 56
*What I disliked*
Here is the rant where I described the project: https://devrant.io/rants/962190
Where do I start:
1. Skype: Horseshit. Fucking disgrace to chatting apps. Their mobile app feels like someone accidentally shat on android studio and uploaded in play store. Fucking garbage.
But, the desktop app on the other hand is great. Works well but uses a lot of CPU.
2. Edge: The mobile version is great, can't say the same for desktop version. It's definitely a bit slower than Chrome or Quantum. Lack of extensions never bothered me as the most important ones like uBlock, Ghostery and Lastpass is available.
3. Bing: Fuck that useless piece of shit.
4. OneNote: If you could wrap dogshit in a beautiful looking wrapping paper, you would get something similar to OneNote. The desktop app is almost non-fucntional but it is indeed very nice looking.
5. Promotional Apps: Fuck off Micro$oft. As mentioned by others, you get some shitty fucking games pre installed when you install Windows 10. Not only that, in the first couple of hours, it tried to install some further games while it's downloading updates. That is just horrible.
Everthing else was fine so far. The updates never bothered me. I got the "Restart" notification twice and I was able to change the time. It never forced anything on me.10 -
that moment when you get an idea about awesome app to publish in the play store, but you remember how many other 100 ideas that are waiting for your move to write code, designing. so you give up, now you have 101 ideas waiting...1
-
When play store literally knows how to kill your time by recommending devRant while you actually are supposed to be studying why you do this to me1

I made the world's most toughest Android game. Being a web designer, to get into game development was a waste of time but I managed to make the game though it looks like shit but it makes flappy bird a child's play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5 -
So I'm planning on ditching Google Play Store. Last step in my anti-Google action (apart from completely cleaning my old Gmail accounts)! I'm barely using it anymore anyways.
Only thing is, I need to find an alternative market. Not an easy journey :)9 -
1. Would have learned Android app development using Kotlin by wk 200
2. Done with machine learning by wk200
3. Would upload my own apps on google play store.
4. Buy a new laptop with my own earned money.7 -
my cousin wants to buy a new phone and asked for advice. (with advice I mean saying what he wants and hoping I agree)
*talks about lumia 930.
me: you won't be able to use these apps x,y,z......
him: why not it has better specs than mine. bla bla.... you will see.
week later
him: phone doesn't have Play Store installed. can you do it?5 -
I contacted the creators of Nova Launcher because I want the full version. They have both an google play upgrade as an input code upgrade.
Since I dont have any google service anywhere I contacted them to ask how to get such a code because I dont have any google service. This was their reply:
"You would need to purchase the app via the Google Play Store, then once you have, email us a copy of the receipt and the email you used to purchase the app with, then we can give you a Direct License to use since you don't have Google Play Services."
How do I buy it if I dont have any fucking google service?18 -
!rant !notrant !confession_maybe? Bit of a read.
Last year, around September (around 8 months into my first job in the industry), I started loosing motivation to be a developer. By then I had consistently dropped out of 3 or 4 courses for my degree (no penalties as it was pretty much within the starting weeks of the each course). I was think that I do not want to do this. It got so bad that I was looking for other jobs and even trade apprenticeships (I am old-ish so chances of that are so bloody low).
I had my mind set. Including not wanting to finish the degree I had started, which only had 1 year as full time to complete.
My missus supported me in my decision making, but she insisted that I finish the degree as the years I spent on it would have been a waste if I don't. So I agreed, with the idea that I will do this part time when I find another job.
Fast forward to New Years and a very spontaneous decisions was made. I resigned from my dev job and we ended up moving away to another city, two weeks later. By this point on I was so certain that I did not want to be in the IT industry. I had not done any dev work (personal projects or learning new technology etc) outside of the job for months. It had been months since I've visited devrant (to be honest it was not even installed on my phone, mainly because I broke my phone and after having it replaced I had not reinstalled a large portion of the apps I used). I had sold my custom built pc thinking that we do not need two PC's (we kind of don't, she's fine with her laptop) which meant no more dev stuff as none of this stuff was set up on my missus pc. I was looking for all kinds of jobs outside of the IT industry, anything really.
But then something happened. And this is that something. I mean this, deverant. I was flicking through the apps list on google play store, and I saw devrant, and I choose to reinstall it. I began reading rants and comments and I am certain that this made me realise why I want to be a developer. Within about 2 weeks of redownloading deverant I was enrolled full time as a uni student fully motivated to earn my degree.
There are bits and pieces left out of the story. I don't regret leaving my first ever dev job and moving away, it does seem drastic but it changed me for the better I believe. I have the experience from that role and I new fresh start so to speak. I think my missus new this was just a phase, although it felt so certain about it.
I am more of a lurker than a ranter or a commenter on this social platform but I felt that I need to share this. Thanks for reading this. Not really sure what to tag this. Has anyone else experienced this before?5 -
TD;LR: ignore this post. Nothing interesting this time. Might post a rant tomorrow.
Just scanned through the Play Store's Library tab, which keeps a track of all the apps that I have ever installed (via the account level mapping).
Removed each one individually (few hundred apps) and realised there are some real shitty and shady apps which I had installed out of desperation.
There were some real good ones as well, which I either no longer use or are no longer required.
I install apps only when required and once the task is done, I uninstall them. No hogging space and no tracking shit.
After the root, I even removed the bloatware crap.
However, I need suggestions to explore some new apps and satisfy my curiosity.
Nothing specific. Any genre, anything.
It can be a game. It can be a productivity app. Let's see what you guys have to offer.20 -
Is anyone here living Google free?
I've switched to using DuckDuckGo and ProtonMail for a while now, but I still find YouTube to be unreplaceable.
And also all the Google stuff on Android, like the play store and other integrations.
I know there's F-Droid and ROMs I might be able to install that wouldn't use any google service; just curious if some have done this successfully.22 -
When I corrupted the keystore for my production android app apk. Oh the panic! I ended up uploading it again and telling the users to download the new app.2
-
What the fuck is wrong with these kind of people?!
So I recently appeared for an android dev job interview in a start-up; the whole time the interviewer (he was the CTO) looked super excited and into my work. I am a fresh graduate with 0 experience in a professional working environment but have a history of a couple of successful apps on the play store since 3 years. The entire time we discussed future plans for the startup and how I was going to contribute towards it. He seemed very interested in my deep learning projects for android and wanted to have similar projects for his products. In the end, he asked me to develop some 'test' projects that can be integrated into his start-up products and told me he'll hire me if he finds it to be as per his need. So I worked on these 'projects' for a month and submitted it to him. He replied that he's impressed with them and will contact me shortly to confirm my job.
That fucker has been ignoring me ever since. He's not responding to any of my e-mails or messages. I feel like a shit right now. How to deal with these assholes?5 -
- - Hey buddy, can you create a simple App for me to publish on the Play store?
- let me see first what features you need
- - **Spending 20 minutes talking about so many features and out of the box design**
- that's it?
- - yes that is it, it'svery simple I know it !
- so you think it's simple huh? so fo it yourself !...4 -
AndroidOS.
Why: well it's built on Linux kernel so first good thing.
Due to open source everyone can get cheap (under $50) smartphones running on Android with millions of app to access. We can create custom ROMs.
Your one app can target billions of people around the world and so much more...
PS: half of the Play Store apps are shit.6 -
Finally had enough of Siri's insistence to play iTunes instead of Pandora. Deleted the music app and the fucking store completely from my phone. Let's see the bitch play all music now.
-
Ffs😪, Google play rating is worst than the University GPA, you get 10 5 star rating it goes up 0.1 you get 1 start rating it goes down 1.5 😂😂
-
Some feature suggestions:
- Customise order of tabs in new UI
- Highlighting of a rant's OP when browsing comments
- Update screenshots on Google Play & App Store2 -
Google, I can understand why you would want to translate the change logs to my language, but THIS IS NOT MY LANGUAGE! I am very curious what language it is though.15
-
When I see people talking about an application I developed and published on Play Store, and saying how good is it.1
-
Just found a job listing that requires experience in deploying apps to Google Play and Apple App Store T_T8
-
I remember when Android brought new innovative functionality and the play store offered hundreds of apps to customize your phone and so on. (Compared to my previous phone)
Now I feel like every new version, if it's Android or iOS, just adapts more to fit the common user. The apps I mentioned still exist but the store offers your trends that - yea, suck (hello social networks)! It's not a phone with new features anymore but a phone that's better for fucking braindeads. And I dislike that. I am not the common user.7 -
I've published my first app on the Play Store! Does this mean I get to call myself a developer now? 🤔3
-
No I don't want your updates every single day, Windows 10. Maybe I don't want to be so edgy with your updates. May be I like it XP style when updates didn't used to bug me with every single boot up and power down. It has become even worse. Who thought defering updates to the next boot up was a good option? It fucking interferes with the flow of work. They were like -
"You know what, let's update till 35% and then fucking update the remaining 65% at next boot"
"But users will be frustated"
"We'll show the update screen with clean font and a nice background. It will calm them down"
"Okay, so let users choose when to download the updates"
"That's not a fucking option, mate"
And if you are going to force updates down our throats please fucking mention what is being changed as a short description instead of showing a 'KBxxxxxxx' update number! If not that, at least hyperlink the thing to your update docs page! OR Mention a version buff if not it! I HATE seeing 'Update for Windows 10 Version xxxx for x64-based Systems' EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I see an update ready to be downloaded.
And no I don't play Candy Crush, or other games that are pre-installed as soon as I re-install fresh Windows or go on Xbox App. I hate to do this ritual of turning off auto download from Windows Store every time. So please don't pre-configure anything for me. Keep it fucking raw. That's why Linux distros win.
I'm just saying, Service Packs were a great thing with a need of little improvements. You guys ruined the whole experience, Microsoft.2 -
I have to confess something. I just uploaded an almost useless app to the play store. It creates usernames :/. Now I feel bad for poluting the play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...11

Forgot to wish everyone a happy new year. Some time in July, I was randomnly browsing the play store and found this app called "devRant".
sudo tar -cfz /ce/2017 /ce/2017.tar.gz
sudo rm /ce/2017
sudo touch /ce/2018 -
When you tell someone not to download unauthorised apps on work devices for fear of malware and they do it anyway, and malware appears and they say:
"But I thought apps on the Play Store are safe!"8 -
The Play Store just added even more white to it's design with the latest update.
Once again Google is going the wrong way with their design choices....
Can we please just have a dark mode.1 -
Why does everyone screenshot a Tweet, instead of using a perfectly good app 'Tweet2Pic' being available on Play Store.
P.S: I am the dev, shamelessly promoting my app. I am not sure if I can share links here 😅3 -
Not many noticed, but I loved the new tone of green that google is using in Play store. It's not that annoying lime green anymore, it's a little darker and pretty.3
-
Sadly I just had to switch to android, I was in a shop and a notification popup: "Are you enjoying this shop? share some comment, picture, review...) ... the notification was from google maps, it was the latest google app to be disabled, now there is only play store. google account is used only for the play store... fun facts that most of people complains about windows 10 telemetry, but almost nobody complains about "don't be evil" google9
-
Tl;Dr: Client has no idea how much development costs
(Un)potential client has been asking to develop an AV solution for Android phones to sell on the play store. Problem is I know they're cheap fucks and won't pay for a proper development cycle. Just for an exercise I put together the minimum cost they are looking at if they cut back on a lot of things and purchase lots of things off the shelf and gave them a bare minimum cost of £4350. Which is utterly fucking ridiculous to think you could develop something even half decent for that. I mean we all know that AV is a bit of a joke for any serious threat, it just protects from the billions of pests in cyberspace, but I mean come on.
Anyway, they are freaking out because apparently that's a lot. Out of interest, what would be your ballpark figures for this.10 -
Hi devRanters
I have been working on an android game in my free time as a hobby. It has been 2 years, so I have decided to finally put it up in play store (maybe as alpha or beta). If there is interest I might keep working on it. Any advice? It is the first time I make a game and I am completely green in regards to publishing it and things to take into account.
All advice is appreciated. I am a bit nervous as it has been my baby for 2 years...2 -
My app is finally on the Apple App Store.
The rant: how bloody difficult was it to get on there?! They scrutinise EVERYTHING. My promo copy, my screengrabs and also it seems that there is code that works on iPhone that doesn’t work on iPad.
I thought it was designed to be the same for ease of development? However I found a function that works perfectly well on iPhone but breaks iPad.
Anyway I guess in the long run this keeps the App Store’s quality level high and it isn’t the Wild West like the google play store. However it’s still pretty annoying. I can see why devs get angry about Apple’s process.3 -
When and how did you learn about devRant? I can't remember how I learned about it but it was probably thanks to it being recommended on the Google Play Store.6
-
The internet at large is annoying me.
I just signed up for the payback card through Rewe. Cool idea. It's a German points card, and I have an American phone. Play store tells me the app isn't available in my country, and I don't see it on fdroid.
Anyone have suggestions for a reliable apk site to get this from?9 -
Recently I've been playing a mobile game sometimes because I was getting bored at my PC.
I was just checking the Play Store to see if any interesting apps released, and everything was full with game recommendations.
"You might like..." (Games)
"Quick & Casual Games"
"Offline Games"
"Simulate Your World" (Simulation Games)
"Rule The Arcade"
What the fuck. This is some next level creepy shit. (Or just a lot of new games came out recently.)2 -
Goto the play store and look for a flashlight, you'd find thousands of apps.
So what's the big idea? Well the big problem here is the whopping millions of downloads each one of them has
Let's assume there are a 1000 flashlight apps and I assure you there are!
1000* 1 million users... Either that or people exist with weird fantasies of collecting flashlight apps11 -
In regards to Google being fined by UE:
"That means Google will need to stop forcing manufacturers to preinstall Chrome and Google search in order to offer the Google Play Store on handsets"
Google restricts their user base to Chrome by making it the default Android browser the same way Microsoft restricts users to Internet Explorer by making it the default Windows browser.12 -
I'd just like to say a royal fuck you with fingers and all to the BBC.
FUCK YOU
Having 10 mins to spare before I leave to get the train to work I thought I'd pop on the news on my phone.
Having got to the website I was promoted to log in (so the bastards could track me no less) but I thought fine! Having tried my password a few times I eventually got into the news streaming page and clicked play.
Wait what a this? Play store? I didn't want the fucking play store and especially to download the BBC media app but screw it I don't have a choice or a lot of time, so I hit the download button.
The app downloads I launch it and boom! the pissing thing takes me back to the BBC website I shit you not! But wait... wtf page is this? Some middle of buttfuck nowhere page which has nothing to do with streaming the news...
I'm now writing this from the train sweating my balls off after leaving late due to the pissing about that I've had this morning. I've had to pick up the shitty free newspaper running past like a paperboy on crack and the only thing I want to do now is spin up a bunch of nodes and spam the bastards with the web address of my middle finger and the words FUCK YOU!3 -
So I work full time at a retail store, but only one person is on shift at a time here so I'm allowed to bring my laptop and code while I'm running the store. This is where I get most of my schoolwork done and make most of my project deadlines for web dev job.
My only social life really consists of me hanging out with my boyfriend. Often when I need to be working on some code or project he will sit next to me and play guitar/sing or will quietly read while I'm on my laptop.
Other than that I chat with some game friends through Discord throughout the day, and often visit/help family members in spare time off of work.
Not much of a social life when you're super busy -

Being an Android Dev myself, I bought my first app in Play Store!
Nova Launcher Prime was offered @ ₹10 (~0.15$). No matter how small the contribution is, it's quite a special joy to support another dev!8 -
from 1-10 how bad is it if i publish an app to play store knowing it has bugs and is not very optimized but everything works fine?23

As many of you might know, the PYX servers are down. It happens that I run an Android client for PYX, that was obviously a tragedy for me. I didn't give up and I've immediately setup a backup server, then due to lack of resources I had to shut it down, but I provided a list of servers run by other people.
Yesterday I've updated the app once again to do some fixing. Today, this guy leaves a review: "Absolutely useless until they bring back the servers. Why update the app when literally NOBODY is playing??"; Why am I updating the app?! Jesus Christ, why can't I update my app?!?! Should I delete it from the Play Store just because some servers are down? I get it, there are a few people playing, but please, don't fucking say that the app is useless.
This kind of people makes me very angry. -
· 10 sales on Play Store
· 1 star review because "good app, but doesn't have that particular function"

Can people at least write a damn comment and tell me why the fuck they don't like the app???
Yesterday I released an update and noticed someone left a new review, without comments, just a one star review.
First I was worried because maybe the update has some nasty bug, but no, this stupid user rated the app without leaving a comment, GREAT!!!
Now google only shows that specific review because the others were of an old version, so great, now anybody wanting to install my app will only see this shit.
If you already took the time to open the play store specifically to rate the app, fucking say something!!! insult me, say it's a bunch of crap but say something you piece of shit!4 -
Those users who'll post reviews for your app on the store in their native Indonesian, German, Arabic or whatever languages automatically assuming that you're a polyglot and you can understand everything. Why not just use English?5

Can someone here tell me, Why the fuck is the Inbox app in the Apple App store around 250MB, while the same app is around 7MB on Google Play? Why? Why?

I don't know if our QA is good enough. We were developing an app for both ios and android. I, an ios developer, told the QA guy that it will take long before uploading the app in the testflight (convert swift2 to swift3). After a week the app is now uploaded in the test flight and at the same time my partner, an android developer, uploaded the android version of the app in the play store beta. The QA guy started to raise bug issues about the android version. He wanted to fix the bugs immediately since our boss needed to upload it in the play store and appstore. The QA guy kept on complaining to my partner why the android version is buggy. Then he said something we, me and my partner, facepalm.
The QA guy said " You shouldn't convert the app to swift 3. The ios version is fine when converted why the android version is buggy. You need to revert it back to swift 2"
We sit there in silence, thinking if we pity the QA guy or laugh at him. -

Hi all!
Its been a month now since I launched my first app on Play Store.
It has now got 2000 downloads with about 600 active installs. I also got some downloads on the paid version of the app (which is basically a donate version of the app).
I know there is always a room for improvement, but still, how am I doing?
And Merry Christmas to you all!5 -

May I suggest an email service?
I saw this post recommending the Vivaldi browser (https://devrant.com/rants/1544070/...) and there was a discussion a few days ago about how email providers snoop around and sell data. I can't find it anymore, but noone mentioned protonmail.ch there.
I just wanted to share my so far positive experience with protonmail. It's a fully encrypted email service that was first used internally by some Swiss academics. Now they made a product out of it with paid subscriptions and a basic, free account. They already open-sourced the front-end web client and are planning to do the same for the back-end in the future, which is really cool. Oh and they have really nice email clients for iOS and Android, which have higher ratings than gmail itself in the Play Store. But that might also be because only a special audience uses protonmail and not the regular guys.
So, I suggest that you register an account there even if you don't want to use it right now. The free account comes with 1 email address and storage limitations. But it's usable and ad-free. Since it's still quite the new service, many email addresses are available. Just like gmail in the early days. That's why I'm suggesting you go and register even if you don't need it now.
Oh and last but not least: I'm not affiliated in any way with protonmail, except for having a paid subscription. But I believe things making the internet a better place should be promoted and devrant is definitely the community with people thinking the same way I do. Have a nice day.10 -

How does one go about finding a niche on Google Play? I hear if you want to be a successful indie dev it is a must. I released my first game a few weeks ago, it has seven five star ratings currently (mostly from friends and family, addmittedly) and I can't even find it by searching. Before anyone says it, I've heard many times before that the indie dream is dead. However I feel like with enough dedication one could at least make a livable wage (just an 18 y/o and his girlfriend).
Shameless self promotion:

To me this is one of the most interesting topics. I always dream about creating the perfect programming class (not aimed at absolute beginners though, in the end there should be some usable software artifact), because I had to teach myself at least half of the skills I need everyday.
The goal of the class, which has at least to be a semester long, is to be able to create industry-ready software projects with a distributed architecture (i.e. client-server).
The important thing is to have a central theme over the whole class. Which means you should go through the software lifecycle at least once.
Let's say the class consists of 10 Units à ~3 hours (with breaks ofc) and takes place once a week, because that is the absolute minimum time to enable the students to do their homework.
1. Project setup, explanation of the whole toolchain. Init repositories, create SSH keys for github/bitbucket, git crash course (provide a cheat sheet).
Create a hello world web app with $framework. Run the web server, let the students poke around with it. Let them push their projects to their repositories.
The remainder of the lesson is for Q&A, technical problems and so on.
Homework: Read the docs of $framework. Do some commits, just alter the HTML & CSS a bit, give them your personal touch.
For the homework, provide a $chat channel/forum/mailing list or whatever for questions where not only the the teacher should help, but also the students help each other.
2. Setup of CI/Build automation. This is one of the hardest parts for the teacher/uni because the university must provide the necessary hardware for it, which costs money. But the students faces when they see that a push to master automatically triggers a build and deploys it to the right place where they can reach it from the web is priceless.
This is one recurring point over the whole course, as there will be more software artifacts beside the web app, which need to be added to the build process. I do not want to go deeper here, whether you use Jenkins, or Travis or whatev and Ansible or Puppet or whatev for automation. You probably have some docker container set up for this, because this is a very tedious task for initial setup, probably way out of proportion. But in the end there needs to be a running web service for every student which they can reach over a personal URL. Depending on the students interest on the topic it may be also better to setup this already before the first class starts and only introduce them to all the concepts in a theory block and do some more coding in the second half.
Homework: Use $framework to extend your web app. Make it a bit more user interactive with buttons, forms or the like. As we still have no backend here, you can output to alert or something.
3. Create a minimal backend with $backendFramework. Only to have something which speaks with the frontend so you can create API calls going back and forth. Also create a DB, relational or not. Discuss DB schema/model and answer student questions.
Homework: Create a form which gets transformed into JSON and sent to the backend, backend stores the user information in the DB and should also provide a query to view the entry.
4. Introduce mobile apps. As it would probably too much to introduce them both to iOS and Android, something like React Native (or whatever the most popular platform-agnostic framework is then) may come in handy. Do the same as with the minimal web app and add the build artifacts to CI. Also talk about getting software to the app/play store (a common question) and signing apps.
Homework: Use the view API call from the backend to show the data on the mobile. Play around with the mobile project to display it in a nice way.
5. Introduction to refactoring (yes, really), if we are really talking about JS here, mention things like typescript, flow, elm, reason and everything with types which compiles to JS. Types make it so much easier to refactor growing codebases and imho everybody should use it.
Flowtype would make it probably easier to get gradually introduced in the already existing codebase (and it plays nice with react native) but I want to be abstract here, so that is just a suggestion (and 100% typed languages such as ELM or Reason have so much nicer errors).
Also discuss other helpful tools like linters, formatters.
Homework: Introduce types to all your API calls and some important functions.
6. Introduction to (unit) tests. Similar as above.
Homework: Write a unit test for your form.

Is anyone else annoyed and / or bothered with how google handles the publishing of apps on its store.
Like I have an account for a client with the clients name and all other his data. I publish a new app on his account with the same name as his account and the app gets rejected for copyright violation because the name and material are copyrighted to the client who is publishing the app.
This is the scenario:
Lets call the client Luis, and he has a developer account named Luis with email luis@luis.com
And the app is called Luis, but when I tried to publish it it was rejected because it contains copyrighted material from Luis.
Wtf?!?!???
Like I understand they need to protect the store from fake apps and all, but how do I give myself the permission to use something I own ?
And now I need to find a way for a client to make a contract from him to him for his material so that google will publish the app -
So my peers are making a hybrid android app and I'm managing the back end, at the start of the project I told them to publish it to the play store to test if it will pass any rules ( I assume there are automatic inspection or whatever) we are near the launching fase and we don't even have a dev account there yet...

Why the hell did someone remove the wacom kernel module in android since 4.x? It wasn't hurting any body and instead gave people the ability to connect their wacom tablets to USB OTG compatible devices. As a result we have few apps that have wacom support in play store and shitty reputation that the rotten apple is better for all things media.
And for me it means I have to:
* Figure out a way to root my device
* locate correct version and configuration of currently running kernel.
* set up cross compilation toolchain
* build the kernel module
* transfer it to the device
* insmod it manually
* say a few prayers
.... All I wanted to do was paint 😢 -
This is for people looking to switch to Linux but on the fence due to game support.
If you have a steam account, you can go to http://steam.bravehost.com and our in your public profile ID, and it'll tell you all the games in your library that support Linux.
For games you want to buy in the future, check http://www.steamdb.info/linux. I know the steam store lists by Linux too, but IMO it is too slow and visually noisy to see what you want.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided surprisingly works on Linux from what I see and so do other games I actually play, so I will likely take the plunge sooner than I thought!12 -
If you are a product designer who looks at an app, adds in a "DISABLE ALL NOTIFICATION" button and still sends notifications after disabling..
If you think you've gained a wee bit extra marketing from your decision, know that the only thing you have achieved is me getting irritated and uninstalling your app.
Also, fuck you for thinking that any sane person would want to go rate your app on play store five times a day, even after I rated a 1 star earlier.
The app was actually well made by whoever the Dev's were. Moronic managers who make decisions to sneak in stupid aggressive marketing notifications should be made to sit in a room and click on the feature they wanted for an hour. -

Technically the first things I received money for were some android apps I published in the Google Play Store. They were icon packs that I created the icons for and mimicked someone's android project. After that created some of my own android apps. First paid career job, hired 2 years ago for java web developer at a health insurance company. I still like it, very appreciated here.

Windows store is so scuffed lul, I wanted to play sea of thieves so I downloaded the game on the Windows store since it is the only place you can get it for PC. But when I go to install it windows says "error, sea of thieves could not be downloaded at this time try again later" so I try again and again then finally I turn to the sea of thieves Reddit for some help and it turns out a lot of people have had the same issue with the exact same error code! So my aunt called because her phone had ran out of storage as she had "by mistake" disabled Play Store,WhatsApp, Browser, Chrome and every other fucking app, and she had to install WhatsApp back. After an hour of struggle explaining her to move her songs to memory card, enabling Chrome and Play Store, installing WhatsApp, I have started to lose faith from humaninty.
To make things worse, every Android phone manafacturer feels obligatory to change the settings app as per their wish and I didn't have a clue where the settings to enable apps were on her phone.
And I had to do all this through a phone call
And I can't say "No"

So a bit ago I posted a rant saying that I would be getting ElementaryOS onto my computer and trying it out, buckle up kiddos because this goes to shit in just a moment.
I did everything right, used Rufus correctly and didn't destroy my computer nor my installer, good! I set it up, get everything going and everything is running smoothly. One problem... I couldn't download **any** programs that weren't from the Ubuntu Store, which really annoyed me because I like to use Brackets, and I couldn't find it in the UStore...
So I messed up **really** bad here... I didn't *format* my Elementary Installer, but tried to delete the files like a pleb and stick an Ubuntu ISO in it's place, I didn't even think on going through Rufus again, I just slapped that shit in there without a thought.
I restart my computer, I read a forum stating that I would get an option that allows Ubuntu (or another Linux distro) to take over the partition of a previous distro. Neat! Another bloody problem is that I decided to use "Win + R" and manually delete the Elementary partition **myself**... What is even wrong with me...
So I restarted it, and before my father left to go shopping, he said I should go into the BIOS to change the boot order (Now this is where I **really fucked up**. Thought what I said before was bad?).
Cool, so I boot my PC and go into the BIOS, now I couldn't figure out on my computer where the boot order was, when it was right in my face the whole damn time... I managed to almost destroy my entire BIOS with the fucking file in my USB stick, because I was being an idiot...
I restart, GRUB opens up with a black screen and white text in the top left corner, know what the most important line is in that small block of words? "unknown filesystem"... Of fucking course I fucked it that bad, GRUB didn't even give me the option of just using Windows 10 instead, just quietly gave me the middle finger since I basically nearly fucked everything.
What's funny is that I had someone (who lives with us, let's call him Jeff) look at my computer because I was done being a dumbass.
He told me that I still had my BIOS (which was a bloody relief, because I thought I basically destroyed my computer doing what I did) and that all I need to do is fix the installer I tried to use.
I gave him the USB and just started to play on my phone.
Then I remembered something maybe an hour or so ago... I had an older installer that I used on my shitty laptop awhile back, if I can find it again I could just use that instead of waiting on Jeff. I dug around my room and found the USB that had a working Ubuntu ISO on, correctly placed inside this time.
I basically walked up to my computer, plugged it in and started it up, and it worked. I got Ubuntu and Windows 10 back, and I was basically laughing like I just saved a man's life.
Moral of this story: Don't be like me and do something stupid, especially if you don't know what the fuck you're attempting at... -
Ok, I'm fed up with this, just read something about android constantly monitoring your phone's location, now it's time to shut this up.
Would you please be so kind and share information on which alternative "privacy-first" OS I could use and how to flash my device? For all I know, it runs a custom HTC modified OS. I'm quite unfamiliar with all those things gravitating Android. Heard about Cyanogen mod but that's about it.
What about compatibility with apps downloaded through the play store? (thinking about Threema) I would also need compatibility with WhatsApp (yeah, sucks, I know, but hard to convince regular people)
Thank you all :)2 -
Is managing a open source project more time consuming than a personal one?
Users keep asking me to make my app an open source project (and I have no problems with that), but I am afraid that it would be too much time consuming for me as I maintain 3 apps on the Play Store and also study and practice sport.3 -
When you add a feature to your app, test quickly and see the new feature works, so publish to play store, only to discover you have broken core functionality 😭.
This just happened to me, I discovered it not log after the update and had to rush to fix it after discovering the play store has no "roll-back" feature ☹️.3 -

I'm in a bit of a slump. I need 'content' for a unity game I'm making. In the game you play as a banker and you collect money you can spend on upgrades. There's also a vault in which you can store money and collect interest. I'd like for there to be more to this game so it's not just a clicker game where you collect upgrade, collect, upgrade repetitively. One thing I did think of but would like to try and avoid is a simulated stock market because of the coding difficulty. I'd anyone has any suggestions it'd be much appreciated!2

What the update is actually about: "Well. We've added some cool intrusive Ads that will screw up your entire app experience. But we don't care."2 -
Question:
How did you discover devRant?
For me I was looking for an Android sql server to install from the play store when I found it..5 -
I am new here and don't know what is Rant & what is devRant all about ... Please tell me . I downloaded it from play store because of good rating. 😅😅5

What if we are wrong and the people that put 4 operations calculators for paid in the play store are actually genius?2

I am not a developer originally... but i wanted to start making money aside from my original job ... I chose android development because the freedom to work independently that is offered by the play store market... and also android development is awesome and full of a lots of potentials3

I just came across this strategy for the rate us section to avoid the lower ratings on the store.
When you click on rate us. It initially presents you with a 5 star with none filled up.
If you click on stars 1 to 3 then a feedback box pops up asking why I'm giving them less stars. Still letting to change them to 5 stars.
If I click on 4 or 5 stars then the app directly takes you to the play store listing where I need to press the 5 star again.
What do you think about this strategy?. Is it worth implementing??4 -
Fellow Android users:
Is there a live wallpaper which downloads images from a RSS feed and low-poly-ifies them, somewhere in the infinite wilderness of the Play Store?
There are a few low-poly wallpaper things that I've seen, but none with RSS.4 -
Looking for advice.
A client has asked me to set up a PoE CCTV system capable of being monitored off-site. I've looked at various camera systems but all of the apps (I'm checking Play store) have bad reviews.
Rather than using an NVR I'm wondering if it's possible to use Linux or Windows on a PC connected to a PoE switch (and the internet.
Anyone done anything like this and can recommend software?6 -
Recently created an app and uploaded it on Play Store. The download rate was great until a few days back. Suddenly I saw that the download rate was dipping drastically.
Then I read, "Download rates of new apps on playstore dips because of change in play store algorithm".
Wow! Thank you Google! Also, fuck you 😐 -
just need some help from the devRant community.
i don't have an android tablet and I want some screenshots of my app in a tablet for it to be optimized for tablets on play store.
Can anyone here with a tab having android 4.4+ help me by taking the screenshots in his/her tablet?12 -
Does anyone know if there's a name/term for the common distribution of app ratings that you see for pretty much every app (in the Google play store anyways).
Demonstrated in the pic:4 -

Guys me and my school mate(s) recently released an app onto Play and I'd love it if you'd go check it out :) the link is https://play.google.com/store/apps/... if hyperlinks work on here (it's called Blip otherwise, by Swappt) and I'd love whatever feedback you have. The github is https://github.com/Swappt/blip-app, if you want to mess around and have a look at the source. Thanks :)7 -
So apparently Google's "Carrier Services" app has some of the funniest reviews on the Google Play Store

So, apparently my Play Store settings get reset when I restart my phone, so Google decided to update Google Keyboard to Gboard for me (and god-fucking-dammit, that shit is absolutely useless to me). I can find older .apks on websites like APKmirror for Google Kinstall but they won't install, saying that "it seems like the package is corrupt". I'm not sure exactly why this might be happening, but according to APKmirror’s FAQ it might have something to do with cryptographic signatures or that a newer version is already installed on the device. Gboard is disabled and I assume that should be enough for that, and I don't know if it would even detect it as the same app in the first place, so my best guess is that it’s got to do with the former which is why I'm turning to you guys.
Does anyone have advice for a solution? I don't have any problems getting another keyboard either if needed, but I would really like something that both has separated layouts per language, as well as a similar swipe-to-type function, since excessive tapping really aggravates my CTS. :/ Any suggestions?2 -
Should I try to build a OS myself with this: https://github.com/danistefanovic/... as my starting point?
My goal is to try and build a Linux OS that can also run Android apks (not necessarily from the Play store) that is imaged and able to run on my Raspberry Pi. Or this is a dream that cannot be realized?2 -
I want to make an mobile app(Android, don't have any apple products). Please give me some ideas, I cannot come up with any. I'm not intending to sell the app(nor publish it to the Play Store because I don't have a dev Google account)4

Apparently Android Pay released for Canadians some time ago, because it's on the front page of the google play store. I really want to use it cause remembering to carry a card around is tough work, but I'm failing the safetynet check.
My only choice, it seems is to revert to a system where I don't have root. I was thinking of installing lineageos, but I'd be giving up some pretty serious things that I've gotten into with Resurrection Remix.
The fling navbar would be gone, I'd probably be able to deal with that but I just find it a way nicer experience than the traditional android navbar.
I might not be able to use Google Assistant, not sure if Lineage has it
And (worst of all), if I revert to a system without root, I won't be able to use my system-wide dark mode from substratum (I'd also be losing battery optimizing features from greenify, which is just another downside)
Existing Android Pay users, is this worth it?10 -

I'm so happy. A month ago I started my apprenticeship, today I published the first version of my application for my company in the Google Play Store.
It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1 -
What do I need to develop android games, do I need necesarily Android Studio and Unity? I want to develop a game like Bitcoin Billionaire (search it on Play Store if you don't know what game I'm talking about)18

Hey guys, so i'm just about to complete my android application project which I started a year ago.
You can say it's sort of my baby. I've put all my efforts into it. The backend is almost done. The problem which i'm struggling with is the front end.
The front end of my app looks like shit. I tried to do everything to make it look elegant and classy, but all in vain.
And I can't afford to hire a front end developer or graphic designer. Can someone suggest me what to do.
I'm open to any suggestions as it's the first app i'll upload on the play store, I just want it to be perfect.26 -
Has anyone had any luck with Raccoon for downloading Android APKs?
The last thing I need Google for on my phone is Play Store, so if this works, my Google account will be totally removed from my phone.

Does anyone else constantly confuses android's camera icon with play store icon ?
I know, its minor thing but it drives me nuts... -
Wich ones are the best programming apps that you can find in the Play Store for Android? Anything that relates to programming or development: tutorials, language cheat sheets, IDE's, learning resources...4
-
The fuck is this shit. Retarded play store can't even notice an active internet connection.
BTW that warning is thrown everytime I open it.1 -

My friend developed a very funny game for Android. You can download it in the play store: http://bit.ly/2hYIi0U.
Can you give me a feedback? Thank you.4 -
Are Android apps so fucking broken that they need to be updated every single day of the year?!? -.-1
-
Ugh posting a review on Play Store is an awful experience. The text editor doesn't let you copy or paste and you can't even see your full review once you've posted the damn thing. Why Google 😡1

Any Android / iOS Developers here? Share your apps or list the name of your app which is on play store/ app store?3

Disclaimer: Not a promotion.
So,I started learning Flutter a month ago by utilizing the time that I used to get from my busy college schedule. I decided to built something as I progressed ahead, unlike working with shorthand examples.
Finally,I was able to publish my work yesterday on Google play. My work is on beta and feedback from developer's community like DevRant would be highly appreciated. Any suggestions/improvements are welcome.
PS: The app has no ads and is free to use.
