I have the urge to fucking smash all of the mosquitoes on the whole universe.
I tried to sleep many times after killing 2 of them. But there are still more of them. Anyways, "since I am fully awake, let us do some research" I thought lol.

-In the research I found that only the female mosquitoes are the ones who are annoying us.
The male mosquitoes dislike drinking blood and eat nectar instead.

And not only that...
-There are approximately 3.5k types of mosquitoes and only a few hundred of these are the bad guys, even if they look all the same.
-Human-biting mosquitoes fly at heights of less than 25 feet in general.
-Mosquitoes are hunting us, because of a specific substance. Carbon dioxide. Every time we exhale CO2, we kind of create a path for the mosquitoes to find us :). They think about it like this:
>co2 detected
>there is probably going to be a meal
>let us fucking get it
-Female mosquitoes flap their Wings slower than male mosquitoes thus it makes it easier for male mosquitoes to detect female mosquitoes.
-Male mosq. do not touch female mosq., when they are resting, but once a female starts buzzing the male recognizes that pattern, flies to her and starts making love.
- A scientist who was working for the US Army found out that the male mosq. will even try to mate with recordings of female mosquitoes' sounds.
-They can not fly until the 10th floor as someone has observed it.
-But then again they have been found breeding up to 8k feet in the Himalayas.
-They live in the water and barely come to the surface for food and o2.

Ps: While I was writing this rant, another 2 mosquitoes bit me and I fucking killed them.

I'm a simple man. I see hate towards mosquitoes, i++
The sound and smell of a mosquito that's being smothered in a 230VAC or 1.2kVDC electric field is quite satisfying btw 😋

And as I was writing this comment, a mosquito came in sight.. now it's electrocuted 😈

@Condor the sound is very satisfying. I am not sure about the smell tho :D.
    Thanks

Some say I might be practicing for a tennis match. In fact I'm just killing mosquitoes with my racket of doom.

@-ANGRY-CLIENT- hah, I quite like it actually. Also just moved the mosquito on the 1.2kV bugzapper to see some more sparks fly into it.. then I noticed that I still had the bugzapper turned on 😰
Well, the angry pixies didn't kill me like that mosquito.. but the tingling feeling of the shock.. I love it!

@-ANGRY-CLIENT- yeah I just swing that thing and I hear zap zap zap. Its like a drug.

Guess that I will try to sleep again. It is 6 am now and I am awake since 4 am.

    @-ANGRY-CLIENT- good night 😊
  • 2
@Condor thanks, mate. Good night to you as well :)
  • 7
Oh look mosquitos are like humans.... Only the female ones are annoying 😂😂😂

(It's joke in case you missed it.)
  • 6
    @NoMad citrus plants too I've heard 🤔
It's been a while since I've seen you here by the way.. how've you been?
  • 6
@NoMad Ah, great to hear :) as for me, eh sort of.. kind of unvoluntarily decided to get a fresh start on my account since a few weeks ago :P other than that, things are great!
  • 2
    At least they're interesting.

    @-ANGRY-CLIENT-

    Get a mosquito swatter racket...
You can buy them at every traffic signal in Mumbai.

Also, cover your windows with a net, that's the most effective way to deal with those bloodsuckers.

I can confirm that they can fly well above 10th floor.

What a funny yet interesting thread xD

I am left with a "mental scene" in my imagination where I see a flock of female mosquitos flying from on side to the other, followed by @HelloBaze / Zapman zapping them all 😂

    *Zap zap zap*

If I’m desperate this is going into my paper title

    @devTea hell Yeah hahaha

I Killed another 3 yesterday, but failed to kill 2 or 3 this Night.
The small ones are so god damn fast...
You can not always catch them with your hands.
  • 2
    Finally! ARGHHHH!
  • 1
And another one just flew back through the open door lol.
Thanks for Not wasting my time I guess?

Btw, you can recognize a male mosquito by looking at its "eyebrows", they're thick and fluffy

Females? Just simple antennas with no hair :D

    And the noise

@-ANGRY-CLIENT- do you have a pond nearby? You seem to be infested :D

Or maybe they rated you being a 3 star Michelin blood transporter, or you're the local café for them

    @Condor another electrical masochist 🙂

I live the sound and sparks of tasers. So beautiful!

My parents had a portable AC in the office / "computer room," the type with a hose sticking out the window. The neighbor had bird fountains and other bits of standing water he would just leave around, and the mosquitoes loved them. One night while I was playing some game, I found and killed 28 mosquitoes. 😡 All I had to use was an old screwdriver.

The are few things I hate more than mosquitoes.

@Root it's like ASMR for sadists :3 and it's such a clean kill! I wish that I could one day tune a new mesh to be compatible with my 7kV module. My current bugzappers would arc internally at that voltage so I'll need to widen the gaps somehow. But once that's done, those mosquitoes are going to *feel the PAIN* 😈
(Or they'll just die instantly, meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
  • 2
@Condor Lower voltage incurs more pain prior to death. It also means less burning smell, though it does generate more mess as there are more remains to dispose of, so it's really 50:50 on which is better. Higher voltage feels so much cleaner, though, and it's so much prettier!

Anyway, I'm a little envious; the only zappers I ever had were a few terrible racquets and a taser. and frying mosquitoes with a taser just does not work. :< (Nor does freezing them with canned air)

Related: I really want to make a Tesla coil with a modulator so it can play music. I'm also curious if I could make a super mini version and use capacitance to detect if a bug is nearby and turn it on? Tesla coil bug zapper! ^_^
  • 2
@Root ElectroBOOM built something like that earlier I think. A kit from OneTesla and one of his own - the musical Tesla coil. Circuit diagrams should be on his website I think. I doubt that you could use capacitance to find a mosquito though, unless it's touching the circuit (at which point the mosquito is probably dead anyway). The only electromagnetic force that can be carried over air (with very low efficiency) is inductance. To find a mosquito however I'd rather look for IR radiation. I mean, when they're alive and flying around, they must have a thermal signature...
  • 2
@Condor I was thinking a metal mesh some distance away from the toroid atop the coil, kind of like a plasma globe, and using that to detect bugs flying through it.

Perhaps it would be easier to just have the insect complete the circuit, but that would take very precise tuning, or the thing would be on continually, or would start up when the humidity rose, etc.

I don't even really know the fundamentals of electricity, so I have no idea how or if this could work. :< but it would be really pretty!

Re: musical tesla coil: I've seen those before and considered buying the kit, but thought it would be much more fun to build on my own. I've just never had the space for it, and now with my little monster it's definitely not a good idea haha

@Root Might work if mosquitoes have a capacitive property.. but not sure about that to be honest, or how to capture it. Their legs aren't very conductive, so that may be an issue already. I'd go for IR detection, or leaving the mesh on all the time by just pouring the charge into a high voltage capacitor and storing it there.. just ensure that there's not too much leakage current in your circuit. Be sure to also place the mesh somewhere that your kid can't reach. Dark places I've noticed attracts mosquitoes, along with a heat signature of the human body and excretion of a certain amount of CO2. Some sources recommend the lure to be something alcoholic. Then just wait until the mosquitoes get attracted, fly in and zap themselves onto the mesh :)
