Well, running everything on servers would probably not hold with the technology we have today. Although, I do believe it won't die out for a while

I honestly doubt it. Keeping things centralized is cheaper in general. And much, MUCH easier to maintain.

we still have to do lot of work to simplify development and maintainment, I think we can talk about few decades

may be, depends on how easy the ecosystem can become, if they are become part of OS and very less interaction by users, then it might take off, otherwise centralized apps are much easier to maintain.
