A PC with a huge screen that can't be upgraded or used as an external screen even though the hardware was obsolete at launch, a convertible that may even break from official updates of its manufacturer and a laptop where you have to melt the keyboard to be able to repair its components.

If that's the best device lineup out there we have a problem.

You mean a paid and sponsored article in a famous news site? Yeah, me neither!

The OS is pants though! Love MacOS since getting a MacBook Pro last year

@deadlyRants I agree with all but one of your points. The updates the surface devices receive are separate from the updates a normal windows a PC receives. So Microsoft can target these updates to the specific hardware they built into these surfaces. I myself own a surface pro 4 and they never managed to break the OS with updates (despite me constantly switching between their stable and beta version).

Other than yes it sucks that you can not even upgrade the ssd or anything else on that matter.

No repairability or customizability, crappy/non upgradeable specs, broken software...

    I never asked for this.

Sure, they are pretty nice products, love the hardware design and all. Saying that they have the best lineup is a bit much though.

@fuckwit "So Microsoft can target these updates to the specific hardware they built into these surfaces."

Which makes it even more embarrassing that some Surface Pro's Windows installation got fucked by an update(1803) this year, among many other devices with specific SSD models. I mentioned this for a reason.

The only reason I'm using a laptop is I can take it with me anywhere but I'm still in love with those custom built PCs, it was the joy of my teenage phase and fuck all that shit that cannot be upgraded :\

so from the comments i understand that their lineup is now like apple, but worse.
  • 1
Oh look they have an identical lineup to apple but a generation behind :-D

@irene i have to deal with microsoft bugs at work, so for me they are worse, it’s personal.

@kimailis It is progress in thinking "I have idea to make something like Facebook but better". It was I have idea to make something like Apple but worse - and it works 😃*

I don't like both of them and don't have opinion about their linups

@Omnisus next products on their lineup will have the notch, including the surface.

@gazza101uk Mac hardware is terribly engineered internally, though.
  • 1
@powerfulparadox Surface hardware doesn't seem to be engineered any better, at least when it comes to longevity.

In the end I think the main problem are the tiny dimensions of all the convertibles and ultrabooks, they make everything more expensive and less reliable.

@fuckwit night and day different experience. The Surface Pro 3 is by far the most useless piece of shit I can remember owning. My personal favourite was this one time at band camp when it combined the powers of poor hardware design with Windows 10 classic "fuck your preferences, you're getting updates now" to forcibly install a firmware update, overheated in the process and bricked itself. Just what you want at the start of 2 weeks away. I could go on but suffice to say I am sure that whoever is responsible for the Surface Pro line has a special place in hell reserved for them in between the product owner of iTunes and Justin Bieber.

I'm laughing while eating an Apple

@nathanchere @deadlyRants a bit late but out of all the windows devices I've owned my surface pro 4 is the most reliable one.
It has bluescreened only once, never did any updates without my consent and just does what it should. Even the pen and wireless display adapter work out of the box.

@gazza101uk How's that even relevant with the post?

@DangerousDev sorry was meant to be a new rant!
