Just saw a recruitment post for a female speaker to join a female panel at a "women in tech" event. And it's by an organisation called "codelikeagirl". 😒
As a female developer, it gives me the upmost cringe to hear about any #women or #girlpower events. Do you really need to validate your ability and support because of your gender? Men don't go to #menInTech events, so why do you need to go #womenInTech events?
On the surface it seems all friendly and gender equality fluff. But if you segregate yourselves into an all exclusive group, isn't that the opposite of what your trying to "achieve"?291 -
When I worked for an online dating app, at one point we had the ridiculous idea to try to take a popular LinkedIn feature and convert it to a dating app feature in order to capitalize off of the success LinkedIn had with it.
The feature was LinkedIn endorsements. The idea was to allow the dating app users to get endorsements from people in their contacts lists on certain traits/features from a defined list (ex. Funny, smart, etc.). It wasn’t a terrible idea on the surface, but the way we planned to execute on it was insane and everyone knew it was going to fail. To avoid any controversy all of the endorsable terms were watered down to the point where no one would ever find using them/asking their friends for endorsements to be any fun. And the worst part was how we planned to get people to ask their friends for endorsements - management wanted us to build a contact list importer and just spam email contacts with “please endorse me” emails. The whole thing was ridiculous.
No one, including myself, wanted to build the feature/spam tool but management really wanted it so we had to build it. Like expected, it failed very quickly when it was clear no one cared about getting their real life friends to endorse them on some dating app, and the spam contacts took was ineffective and... spammy.10 -

The Teacher hates me...22 -
My boss is technically restricted shall we say.
As the cto I have also been designated office IT guy. Which means apparently fixing the printer. Which is ok I guess. I mean it's bullsh*t but hey.
Anyway, about 6 months ago he said he needed a new laptop. He lives his life in excel and outlook, and even though the whole company uses google docs for everything he still exports everything to excel, makes a copy, then saves it back to drive so everything gets out of sync.
It's a fun problem that I have banned everyone from doing obviously but he continues.
Anyway, anyway, he wanted a new windows laptop naturally. I said to spend about £700 on a decent machine rather than buying something cheap that will frustrate and not last long.
He doesn't listen and gets some old windows 7 machine for £300. It's an alright spec for 2009; he must not have got the memo about it being 2017.
4 months go by and he says he needs a new laptop because this one is too slow (not least because he opens 400 chrome tabs and never reboots his machine). Anyway, I fix the problem of uninstalling all his bloatware and it runs quicker but he has his heart set on a new machine.
He insists.
I suggest he spend the money this time so he literally doesn't buy a new one in 4 months. I suggest the surface book that's £1200. A little overpriced but he will love the touch screen, it's powerful enough and it's windows. Ticks all the boxes for him.
He suddenly decides he wants a Mac.
I tell him it will be a nightmare for everyone if he does that.
He insists.
I suggest the Mac book pro as I've had mine for 6 years now and it's still going strong. It's a little more expensive than the surface but it will last.
He then says he wants the air.
I say they haven't updated them in ages and they aren't actually that powerful.
He insists.
That night he just buys an air from the Apple Store.
WHY THE FU*k ARE YOU ASKING ME FOR ADVICE IF YOURE NOT GOING TO LISTEN YOU MOTHERFUC*er. WASTING MY TIME AND YOURS.
Was very close to rage quitting when he wanted me to back up his old machine but didn't bring in his hard drive and didn't want to put it in the cloud. #whatDoYouWantMeToDoWithYourOldPornCollection
To top it all off I ran some benchmarks and my 6 year old Mac book pro is more powerful than his "brand new" air.23 -

Looks like Apple is the new Microsoft and Microsoft is the new Apple...
I remember when every release of Windows was a catastrophic mess and you had to wait until at least SP2 to get the OS to work in a stable way. And Internet Exploder was *the* browser that broke everything, every time. And there was the whole embrace/extend thing, where they tried to impose their vision of web standards and compatibility, and *everything* you used *had* to come from Microsoft...
And now, it's Apple who fuck up every single OS release, on mobile and desktop, and whose browsers openly shit on web standards (ever try developing anything for Mobile Safari?). Apple's stuff that only works with Apple stuff (down to things like headphone jacks - OOPS, forgot, they dropped those now).
Microsoft is making interesting, beautiful hardware (Surface machines) while Apple is pushing un-innovative, overpriced garbage year in year out. And they're open-sourcing more and more, while Apple walls itself further and further behind its walled "garden". Bleh.
Be interesting to see in 10 years what will have shifted, because it'll change again by then.15 -
Bought a Microsoft surface (3 pro) from a colleague (more about how that runs later).
It had only one USB port and I definitely need more so started searching online for docks. They mostly seem to be about 100+ euro and all have hdmi ports and other shit other than USB ports as well but I don't need that.
Fuck it, let's get creative (and fuck 100 euro for something like this)!
Double sided tape (however you call that) + 2 euro USB dock:
Works like a charm!
20 -
OK morning rant from yesterday.
Get into the venue, connect my surface to the dock, keyboard won't work.
Try more USB ports, try another machine, keyboard (corsair k70) is totally broken.
Ugh.
Fine.
Disassemble keyboard, someone asks me a question, turn around and knock full coffee cup over my surface book.
Fuck sake.
Now I need a new laptop.4 -
First day at CERN: done!
Nothing to rant about :) The place and the people are beautiful, lots of support and it's easy to navigate through things even for very young people like me! Couldn't ask for better stuff.
The welcome event in the Globe of Science and Innovation is already an experience on its own :) so many people to meet and share words with! Later on one of my senior colleagues showed me around the surface datacenter of ATLAS, as well as its control room and a (physically) separate computing testing environment to run simulations and software on to later be deployed at Point 1 (ATLAS). I am stunned, humbled and excited to say the least! More to come soon! Post your curiosities below and I'll gladly answer!15 -
It seems like every other day I run into some post/tweet/article about people whining about having the imposter syndrome. It seems like no other profession (except maybe acting) is filled with people like this.
Well lemme answer that question for you lot.
YES YOU ARE A BLOODY IMPOSTER.
There. I said it. BUT.
Know that you're already a step up from those clowns that talk a lot but say nothing of substance.
You're better than the rockstar dev that "understands" the entire codebase because s/he is the freaking moron that created that convoluted nonsensical pile of shit in the first place.
You're better than that person who thinks knowing nothing is fine. It's just a job and a pay cheque.
The main question is, what the flying fuck are you going to do about being an imposter? Whine about it on twtr/fb/medium? HOW ABOUT YOU GO LEARN SOMETHING BEYOND FRAMEWORKS OR MAKING DUMB CRUD WEBSITES WITH COLOR CHANGING BUTTONS.
Computers are hard. Did you expect to spend 1 year studying random things and waltz into the field as a fucking expert? FUCK YOU. How about you let a "doctor" who taught himself medicine for 1 year do your open heart surgery?
Learn how a godamn computer actually works. Do you expect your doctors and surgeons to be ignorant of how the body works? If you aspire to be a professional WHY THE FUCK DO YOU STAY AT THE SURFACE.
Go learn about Compilers, complete projects with low level languages like C / Rust (protip: stay away from C++, Java doesn't count), read up on CPU architecture, to name a few topics.
Then, after learning how your computers work, you can start learning functional programming and appreciate the tradeoffs it makes. Or go learn AI/ML/DS. But preferably not before.
Basically, it's fine if you were never formally taught. Get yourself schooled, quit bitching, and be patient. It's ok to be stupid, but it's not ok to stay stupid forever.

Yet another Windows rant but boi Redmond deserves it.
For our new office I took a leap of faith ordering 15 iMac 5k. (btw HP quoting us €10k each pc for same spec).
There are two young guys insist on Windows. Good for you so we ordered two top of line surface book. He religiously unwrapped and said “who want apple trash more than this beauty.”
It’s been 5 hours that shit spent on “Getting Ready Windows for you”, once done it prompted another updating at 4% until we all left work.
So this morning I’m ordering another two MBPs...10 -

I'll be buying a second hand Surface tomorrow.
Will put Linux onto it right away, found good instructions on doing that including making the touchscreen work.
If that doesn't work, I'll sell the fucker again because I'm not running windows. I'm just not. That malware can go fuck itself.
Looking forward to transferring that windows machine to a Linux one!10 -
Oh my word, shut up everyone about the ESC key. In interface design do you keep something around that 1% of your user base uses, or do you make something better? It's not even gone. It's on the touch bar for fricks sake.
And while we're talking about it, stop calling Apple so innovative. Innovation at Apple died with Steve Jobs. "We developed this awesome new iPad Pro!" it's just a bigger iPad with the same stupid limitations of all iPads. If you want a real portable work tablet, go buy a Surface. "We added a touch bar to the MacBook Pro!" some manufacturers of Windows laptops have had that thing for years!

Being an introvert 17-year-old is tough at times :/
Have yet to find someone who shares my interests and has the will to get to truly know me.
Most people just barely scratch the surface and judge for what they see, but after all, I cannot expect any sort of deep relationship to take place with any of my peers.16 -
Watched a show where this girl downloaded "7 Teraflops of data" to her windows 10 surface computer in the period of 10 minutes.

I have the urge to fucking smash all of the mosquitoes on the whole universe.
I tried to sleep many times after killing 2 of them. But there are still more of them. Anyways, "since I am fully awake, let us do some research" I thought lol.
-In the research I found that only the female mosquitoes are the ones who are annoying us.
The male mosquitoes dislike drinking blood and eat nectar instead.
And not only that...
-There are approximately 3.5k types of mosquitoes and only a few hundred of these are the bad guys, even if they look all the same.
-Human-biting mosquitoes fly at heights of less than 25 feet in general.
-Mosquitoes are hunting us, because of a specific substance. Carbon dioxide. Every time we exhale CO2, we kind of create a path for the mosquitoes to find us :). They think about it like this:
>co2 detected
>there is probably going to be a meal
>let us fucking get it
-Female mosquitoes flap their Wings slower than male mosquitoes thus it makes it easier for male mosquitoes to detect female mosquitoes.
-Male mosq. do not touch female mosq., when they are resting, but once a female starts buzzing the male recognizes that pattern, flies to her and starts making love.
- A scientist who was working for the US Army found out that the male mosq. will even try to mate with recordings of female mosquitoes' sounds.
-They can not fly until the 10th floor as someone has observed it.
-But then again they have been found breeding up to 8k feet in the Himalayas.
-They live in the water and barely come to the surface for food and o2.
Ps: While I was writing this rant, another 2 mosquitoes bit me and I fucking killed them.35 -
(Senior level engineering course and our professor used to work for NASA. This can lead to some fun anecdotes during class.)
Professor: “Because the ends have such a small surface area, you can neglect them in your calculations.”
Student: "What would NASA do?"
Professor: *without missing a beat* “They'd probably use the wrong units and crash into Mars."2 -
Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake. But that’s bullshit. Debugging is actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with. About knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you, to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you’ve secretly known all along.

100% focused, balls-deep in the zone, not sure I could have recalled my own name if you'd asked me...
Suddenly out of nowhere, someone's asking me about a job I worked on over a week ago. I'm mostly answering in just a few syllables, struggling to surface from 20 layers of Call Stack.
This goes on for a full 5 minutes before they say, "sorry were you busy?"
No, I was just about to beat Solitaire.
Of course I was fucking busy jesus fucking christ, did you not see all that code and shit on my fucking screen when you suddenly and urgently had to disturb me?10 -
I've got a confession to make.
A while ago I refurbished this old laptop for someone, and ended up installing Bodhi on it. While I was installing it however, I did have some wicked thoughts..
What if I could ensure that the system remains up-to-date by running an updater script in a daily cron job? That may cause the system to go unstable, but at least it'd be up-to-date. Windows Update for Linux.
What if I could ensure that the system remains protected from malware by periodically logging into it and checking up, and siphoning out potential malware code? The network proximity that's required for direct communication could be achieved by offering them free access to one of my VPN servers, in the name of security or something like that. Permanent remote access, in the name of security. I'm not sure if Windows has this.
What if I could ensure that the system remains in good integrity by disabling the user from accessing root privileges, and having them ask me when they want to install a piece of software? That'd make the system quite secure, with the only penetration surface now being kernel exploits. But it'd significantly limit what my target user could do with their own machine.
At the end I ended up discarding all of these thoughts, because it'd be too much work to implement and maintain, and it'd be really non-ethical. I felt filthy from even thinking about these things. But the advantages of something like this - especially automated updates, which are a real issue on my servers where I tend to forget to apply them within a couple of weeks - can't just be disregarded. Perhaps Microsoft is on to something?11 -
Had the Windows Insider Preview for a month or so to get Ubuntu Subsystem early back when it was Insider-only.
Turns out that your license policy changes when you use Preview builds: if your PC isn't updated to a certain build by checkpoints set throughout the year, your license expires and you have to reinstall Windows. No way to recover anything already on the device. So if you get Insider Preview and shut your laptop off for too long...
Thus began a killer combo attack on my Surface Pro 3.
While trying to figure out what was going on and loading up a recovery on a flash drive, the Surface Pro 3 BIOS was sitting idle behind me. On 100% CPU. The only reason I think this is that by the time I noticed the insane fan noise, the screen was hot enough to burn my finger as I tried to turn it off. The heat sensor triggered it to shut off before I could, though.
That heat sensor, however, won't turn it off if it's busy installing Windows, supposedly to keep anything from getting hopelessly corrupted. What followed we're 3 hours of fan whirring from a slab of metal hot enough to cook an egg with.
Windows is back and working. The battery indicator, however, melted during reinstallation. And the battery lasts an hour, max. Thankfully I'm not out of a tablet, but it seems to me that W10 is becoming more and more like malware, just waiting for you to activate one of it's delightful payloads.4 -
How does the new MacBook pro outsell Microsoft surface and dell XPS 😖 are there so many "sheep" out there who buy a 1300+ machine with 2 (max 4 ports) not including the 17 dongles you'll need?
Sorry if I offended anyone but I just think the new MBP is ridiculous and is definitely not "Pro"15 -
"I strive for code quality and maintainability. I actually do. And i will not work for a company that does not care about it and just wants something done as fast as possible.
The only time i will do something quick and dirty is if it's actually urgent. And even then with one condition - my next task will be to fix it properly.
I do not care about your deadlines. I will do my best to meet them, but not at the expense of code quality. I've seen too many projects fall into technical debt, where productivity is so low, that the only way to move forward is hire more people and start working on a project 2.0
And please do not lie about how great your company is, if it's not. These kind of things surface very soon, and you will have wasted both of our time, because as i said - i will not work for a company that does not care about code quality."
you think i'll ever get a job again if i put this on my CV ? :D10 -
So I've been playing some DnD with friends.
And we've been working with some lego characters, whiteboard markers and plastic sheets to draw on.
But that's always a mess:
The ink was old and did not come off again for the most part
The sides of the map curled up and and made the lego character fall over
The lego characters were too big
And more...
So I thought, why not make it digital?
And so I did.
I used UWP to make a master and a client, both using the Windows Ink api to be able to draw.
Some circles with an initial served as characters, and everything was synchronized using a TCP library I wrote half a year ago.
Yesterday we tried it out.
We all (including me) were sceptical if it would work well because the 'analog' clumsy way we did it before does have a certain charm.
But at the end we were all very enthousiastic about it and we'll be using it next time too!
It's awesome to be able to create programs for your own use :D
That's why being able to program is such a great thing!
Now I need to restructure everything, make it more efficient, add a turn order display, make the map zoom- and moveable and more and more....
20 -
Right, you pesky type initialization bug, I'm gonna find you. Hiding by throwing your exception in an external library won't help you. I'll download the sources, library by library, and look for you there too.
I *will* track you down, bastard, and exterminate you locally. Then, I'll make a pull request and kick your sorry ass off GitHub, off the internet and off the bloody surface of the earth. Oh, you have no idea how dead you're going to be when I'm done here!2 -

So I Met this kid (11 or 12) when I was younger
15or so
And he asked me what I wanted to become I said:
Programmer...
He was AMAZED by this job and INSTANTLY wanted to become one too...
So I showed him the Basis of programming with Scratch for EDU, he was pretty good and Made some "good" Games.
Then I wanted to work on my little unity Game...
So I started to Programm on my surface pro 4
He looked at me and asked:
What are you Doing? What is this?
I explained that coding isn't always Scratch and that there are MANY ways to code,
Some are like Scratch and other arent...
He FREAKED THE HELL OUT!
And was Like:
I WANTED TO LEARN CODING NOT SOME OTHER BULLSHIT LIKE SCRATCH!
I WANT TO BECOME LIK,E YOU!
We never met again...7 -

Two years ago: company exec (Mac fan) buys a Surface Pro to show off our .NET application to customers as he travels. Hands it to me (I build releases) and I iron out a few Win 8 bugs since we'd always used Win 7 before. Get it set up, get to like the device a little, he takes it home... and returns it within 24 hours because he didn't mesh well with Windows. (Again, Mac user.)
8 months later he buys a Surface Pro again. I install our latest release, verify that everything is working as expected with hardware we normally don't use, and give him a controlled setup that will just work when he's at a customer site. Once again, he returns the Surface within 24 hours because he can't get used to Windows.
At least we verified Windows 8 compatibility, I guess.1 -
Today I got myself a "Surface Go".
I thought that it will be too cramped/small for web-developement, but now that I have one I am really surprised about the power/flexibility that this thing serves.
GG Microsoft, you have done something right.

This, is the Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse.
It is beautiful. Magnificient. Minimalistic. Fast. Accurate.
I first thought it would be my future mouse.
I thought I would use it for years.
I used for an hour, and literally threw it away.
I thought it would be comfortable, since i used cheap logitech mouse which of those were all too high in height.
But, this mouse, is so low in height. It literally puts your hand in the floor.
You, the devRant members, pointed out at my previous rant that it looks, and would be uncomfortable, and I literally said shut up!
Well, sorry about that, I regret my words.
It is piece of beautiful trash.
The click sound is very quiet, the scrolling is very good, but the height of the mouse....
If I keep using this mouse, I would probably get a carpel-tunnel disease(is this correct?).
I guess I should only use this mouse when I need to use it quickly outside, since portability is number one among all mouse in the world.
Next coming, some more Surface pro coding sessions, and Surface pen.
Anything interested about the surface pro? Leave in the comments below!

How my year has gone so far...
Management: Bobby, we are replacing your old hammer.
Me: Ok cool.
Management: Well actually there's so much going on...here is a wrench instead.
Me: But, this isn't a hammer.
Management: Yes we are aware but we are busy and cannot buy a hammer for a several more months.
Me: How the fuck am I suppose to hammer nails with this?
Management: Oh gosh you are right. That sounds difficult. We will grind down one side of it so you have a flat surface to hammer in those nails.
Management: Oh and by the way, those nails are super important so don't screw anything up.10 -

"Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that's bullshit. Debugging's actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you've secretly known all along. A bug is never just a mistake. It represents something bigger. An error of thinking. That makes you who you are. When a bug finally makes itself known, it can be exhilarating, like you just unlocked something. Because, after all, a bug's only purpose, it's only reason for existence is to be a mistake that needs fixing, to help you right a wrong. And what feels better than that? The bug forces the software to adapt, evolve into something new because of it. Work around it or work through it. No matter what, it changes. It becomes something new. The next version. The inevitable upgrade." - Elliot, Mr. Robot6

I managed to get a new dell XPS 15 with uhd display, 16GB RAM and a nice i7 for work.
My boss previously asked for advice from me for which laptop to get, he ignored my advice which was for him to get a nice surface book pro for his excel activities
Instead he got a shitty Mac book air (who are these people who like the airs?). As his cto I was upset he didn’t trust his tech guy to choose him a powerful laptop that was useful.
Anyway, he saw my new laptop this week and a contractor was admiring it. My boss then said why didn’t you tell me to get this one? (The surface pro is the same spec but with tablet and pen ability).
What a dick. I’m still mad he didn’t listen to me. And now he is saying I never told him.
Macs are shit btw. This dell is great and I don’t know how we lived without uhd screens before.14 -
Once while making a automation program for a friends errr academic betterment. I realized I had taken three of the sacred caffeine pills and chewed them unlike normal. Needless to say this increased the surface area tremendously. I thought I was gonna have a heart attack right there at the age of 20. And all I could think was, "fuck my screen has a lot of dead pixels."

It was a Monday morning, and I did what most people do - I got up late. When I came to senses, I realized I have an important client meeting today.
I ran towards my closet and grabbed my favorite shirt, but it was a mess, badly wrinkled.
But no problem, I decided to put this task on my old but trusty laptop, I waked up my laptop (Which has just celebrated its 12th birthday yesterday), it literally coughed 100 times as i opened 3-4 chrome tabs and android studio on it. Within a minute , my newly found laptop-iron become as hot as the surface of sun, i gently placed my shirt under it and in 5 seconds my shirt was looking brand new !!! I quickly got dressed up , while my laptop was cursing me at the back.
Luckily my meeting went well and we secured a new project, on my way home I was happy and satisfied that my oldy has found a new purpose of life as a makeshift iron.
I returned home, and to my surprise my laptop was'nt turning on....!!! I though maybe its tired from todays work so i let him rest..........

Won a new job; 50% payrise which, for a junior, is a pretty big deal.
A bigger team, with more established practices, a commitment to testing and code coverage, code reviews, and a smaller learning surface area as I go forward (focusing entirely on the js ecosystem, 80% frontend).
So this is all good.
But I *have* to go back to Windows. Windows *7*. Their infosec practices move at a glacial pace. After two glorious years on mac/linux I feel like being sick.7 -
Thank you Syncex for one of the best powershell scripts ever. This literally sped up my laptop and surface :3

Look, I've given Microsoft and Windows a lot of shit, but I just have to be fair and say the one piece of hardware that I absolutely covet is the Surface Pro... If that is the direction Microsoft is heading in the coming years I'll have a lot more respect for them...8

Taking a database class, prof insists on using Microsoft Sql server 2014. "Okay cool" said the Microsoft surface fan boy inside me as I installed it. "Holy shit this is using 6 fucking GBs?? Eh it's okay I trust" again said my Microsoft fanboy self. Finished installing, makes queries and it works. Cool.
Go to run Sql server again next day and get an error (nothing displayed, just a box pop up and then a crash) I use some Google skills. Change a bunch of shit and still it persists. "Just uninstall it and reinstall again" says my prof. I do so except random errors during installation saying Sql already exists even though I just uninstalled it. "Maybe it's some registry keys messing with it!" do some digging, remove unneeded registry keys and try again. Installation finished but a whack of features say failed to install.
I sit and try to work this shit out for the next four hours (not paying attention to my class) and still can't get Sql to completely uninstall itself. I try iobit uninstaller, command line uninstalling, fucking everything but still not working. Slowly my fanboy side is wishing that the windows symbol on the back of my machine was an apple.
I ended up having to backup all my files and reinstalling windows to get it working properly. Holy sweet fuck. The worst part is when this class is done ill probably need to reinstall yet again to save the 6gb it's sucking up. So if you're not sure whether you need something as heavy as Microsoft Sql server or not for your application, don't use it! It's a fucking virus that is super difficult to remove.
Tldr: life long Microsoft fanboy becomes apple convert in a day of using Microsoft Sql server.

!rant !!questionTime
So I’m currently looking as a side project to build a web based game using canvas / webgl possibly, I don’t really want to take up iOS/Android dev to do this.
This is a new field for me being mostly a ecommerce guy rather then game dev, so I was wondering if anyone out there knows off a good starting point and decent frameworks to get me going.
I came across
http://phaser.io/
and it seems at a surface level semi suitable.
I’m not looking at doing anything overly complex, basically drag drop functionality for the interaction to navigate a sprite around mazes at a top-down level with I guess collision detection for when you turn the wrong way.9 -
In some other rant I told @rusty-hacker about the "not a MacBook" I use for work (and play), but apparently you can't attach an image to a comment, so I thought I'd post this here.

well, the microsoft surface that has been lying in a shelf and was used three times in the last year now only boots to bluescreen. you still get the full experience even though you barely use it.

Just wanted to spread awareness about a Windows 10 devRant app called "devRant Unofficial". It's literally a 1:1 clone of the Android and iOS apps.
Maybe the devRant team could contact the dev for come co-operation and get an official app for Windows 10 with little to none effort?
It works on mobile and PC so I can easily use it on my Lumia and Surface. I know most of you guys here use macOS, but for us Windows devs, having an official app would be cool.
I know Valve talked to an unofficial developer of the Steam app for Windows Phone, and gave him approval for removing the "unofficial" tag. I suggest you guys do the same.
Happy 2016's death everyone, and sorry for the long and boring post!

A people person is only a people person to another people person. I fucking hate them. Most sales people I see don’t really have any skills per say. They think they do by claiming to be a people person. The entire sales community is like this. Fake as shit. They pay thousands to learn something that has been written in Medium or you could just Youtube. I think I can pretty much get the fact if you wanna make a video do well, you need a good title. They speak everything on the surface. And they claim to a be a layperson. Well, no. Fuck you. I not giving you an average. You are stupid as shit. They can’t write a proper fucking email. I have to go through kubernates and monads and they still make more money than devs via commission. They are too sober and fucking pretentious too. Fuck em fuck em fuck em.3

Those who are thinking, surface studio is over priced. Go and try comparing the cost of 4k touch screen cost, you will get to know.5

Difference between Thermal Paste And Thermal Pads
As we all know that the surface of the CPU or a heat sink is not flat. So the uneven surface of both types of equipment give rise to the small gaps, and these small gaps are poor in thermal conductivity, as a result, the Gaming Computer gets heated off quickly.
To fill these gap we require a thermal conductive which delivers the entire heat coming out from the CPU to the heatsink and there comes the role of Thermal paste or Thermal pads for more info about thermal paste see here (https://glinkster.com/best-thermal-...)
But the real question here is which should you chose to avoid heating problems? Is it either thermal paste or thermal pads? So without wasting much time let's get to know what are the basic differences and when you should apply what?
What is the difference between thermal paste and thermal pads?
Thermal paste or thermal compound actually it has a lot of names. Thermal paste is a greasy conductive paste directly applied to the heatsink. It is most commonly used as the interface in between the non-conductive parts for the cooling purpose. A good thermal paste made with the best quality of thermal compound can work well for the system. To apply thermal paste, you have to very careful as you have can also sometimes drop it near to the main CPU. But this is not the only option to fill the holes in between the CPU and the heatsink, there is one more thing that you can use is Thermal Pads.
Thermal Pads
Thermal pads are easy to put as compare to thermal pastes. But they are not as effective as compare to the thermal paste. You will find some stock coolers come with thermal pads as it looks clean. If sometimes you have to replace the heatsink, then you have to remove the pad too. So remember whenever you remove the heatsink ot dismount it, always change the thermal pad.
Common Mistakes you have to avoid
There are some common mistakes that a lot of people make while applying the thermal paste or thermal pads.
1) Never use thermal paste and thermal pads together.
2) But you can use thermal paste on the top of the thermal pads to improve the efficiency.
3) Use of two or three pads altogether can kill the performance of the CPU.

Holy fuck...I didn't expect this.
simple terminal from suckless.org
(aka. st) After appiled path "alpha" -> It did transperent in the way that if you have 2 terminal overlaps -> It'll draw a transperent surface with the underline terminal. so, It's not an idea for open vim with i3 tab or stack mode. I kinda gave up on using it until I realize -> what if underline terminal is "mpv" which is video player. This is a result (Holy fuck is awesome). by set "hi Normal ctermbg=NONE" in vimrc to make transperent background with vim.
Now, I have "mps-youtube" which allow me to watch youtube with mpv, basicly (vim + youtube) as the same time.
ps. If gif is not play -> tell me, I'll upload video. (seriously, is awesome)

These fucking imbecile devs left me a bunch of bugs in a 150k LOC legacy hell...
Too bad it took some 8 months for them to finally surface in prod. God damned...
Technically, this whole codebase is one giant abyss filled to the brim with bugs.6 -
For fuck's sake, management is now asking us to provide data converted in % as to how genAI is actually making us more efficient as developers. How the fuck do you even measure that empirically?
It is already BS enough that they track how much we query these AI tools everyday in our development environments, but now they want genAI to produce most of the code templates in our SDK. It can barely produce a working regex or a working python script, let alone a small piece of code that won't stack overflow itself into oblivion. It sometimes takes more time to debug and refactor than to do it myself from scratch.
They ask for our professional opinion, we tell them, they don't give a fuck about it, proceed to think all is rainbows and unicorns, and still ask us the same moronic things as if they were the new messiah's on earth.
Don't get me wrong, genAI can be useful, but why the fuck does management think it will magically solve all our problems when they don't even understand how it works even on the surface.
The only thing that would make sense is a lot of them got money at stake in some AI investment sales pitch bullshit and they try to jam it up our collective throats because otherwise they will loose their investments like there is no tomorrow.
Fuck all of this, I just want to do engineering and build something useful to society. Is it too much to ask?14 -
Had a blast from the past the other day. Testing an issue with an AngularJS app in IE11 on a project managers Surface.
Nothing works. Just a blank screen. I open the JavaScript console to hundreds, maybe thousands of errors. They all seem eerily familiar, but I can't place them. It's like something from a past life.
Then I see one that brings the issue into sharp focus.
"{{variable_name}} is a reserved word"
No it isn't, I think. That hasn't been a reserved word in JavaScript since...
Me: "Is your browser in Compatibility Mode?"
PM: "Yeah, it's for one of our legacy programs"
Me: "You need to turn that off to test this app. It thinks you're using IE6, so it's having a 2 decade old shit-fit. I haven't seen those errors since I was a teenager making crap on Geocities"
I never thought an error message could make me feel so old 😩 -
Full stack developer.
I know what it's supposed to mean, but I feel like it gives discredit to the devs who perfect their area (frontend, backend, db, infrastructure). It's, to me, like calling myself a chef because I can cook dinner..
The depth, analysis and customization of the domain to shape an api to a website is never appreciated. The finicle tweaks on the frontend to make those final touches. Then comes a brat who say they are full stack, and can do all those things. Bullshit. 99.9% of them have never done anything but move data through layers and present it.
Throw these wannabes an enterprise system with monoliths and microservices willy nelly, orchestrate that shit with a vertical slice nginx ssi with disaster recovery, horizontal scaling, domain modeling, version management, a busy little bus and events flowing all decimal points of 2pi. Then, if you fully master everything going on there, I believe you are full stack.
Otherwise you just scraped the surface of what complexities software development is about. Everyone who can read a tutorial can scrape together an "in-out" website. But if your db is looking the same as your api, your highest complexity is the alignment of an infobox, I will laugh loud at your full stack.
And if you told me in an interview that you are full stack, you'd better have 10+ years experience and a good list of failed and successful projects before I'd let you stay the next two minutes..1 -

I am working on an open source game project, and the most common way to draw things is using a class named ManagedSurface. The class is otherwise awesome, but it has a method called getBasePtr(x, y), which gives you a pointer to the requested coordinates. Fair enough (this is C++ without STL by the way).
But WHY THE HELL CAN I REQUEST ANY POINTER THAT I WANT, EVEN IF IT'S OUTSIDE THE SURFACE? Other cointainers have sanity checks, asserts and such, and the surface KEEPS TRACK OF IT'S WIDTH AND HEIGHT.
WAS IT SO FUCKING HARD TO ADD assert(x <= w); assert(y <= h);???
I spent 3 days on valgrind trying to find a heap corruption that manifested at random points in the code.
FUUUUCK!
On the bright side, I learned how to use valgrind (which is awesomely awesome).4 -
Our IT-Class project: Mathematics trainer in Java
Day 1 (was monday)
TL;DR we didn't save.
So we formed groups and I landed in the UI team with, let's call him Mage and let's call her Goth.
We had an eclipse project folder on our desktop (they said it only works when put on desktop) Btw they didn't even want to use a cloud or something (I wish we'd use git and I'd finally learn it). We should take the changes by USB from computer to computer.
So me, Mage an Goth are making a basic GUI for this Mathematic-Training App. We use this thing from Eclipse but I forgot the name. It has not enough functionality on surface and I hate things that break complex things up to ease things but leave away so much.
So after a productive hour of building a GUI and centering shit by calculating the top and bottom distance and use margins (hurts me really but Mage was designing, Goth intensively calculating on paper), the bell rings.
Mage wants to save the project on my USB-Stick and bamm💥
A black screen.
I don't know how it happened but it sure had something to do with the USB-port looking like you fucked it with a way to huge🍆. It looked damn broken.
So because we have a nice App called HD-Guard, which fucking wipes the desktop on startup and resets all but the documents/images/videos/music folder —
It's all's gone. Today is day 2 of this project so let's see how today turns out.3 -
Big-time Microsoft fan who claims they've been using licensed versions of Windows since Windows 3.0. Still has all old versions of Windows on different machines / hard-disks. They use only Microsoft Surface devices. They still use Nokia Lumia (with Windows Phone 10). They were working with an organization that used Office365 for enterprise email and collaboration. They used Microsoft Teams for team collaboration when the rest of the organization was comfortable with Atlassian tools like jira, confluence and bitbucket.
One fine day, news spreads that the organization is moving into GSuite for enterprise email and collaboration. They are devastated. They quit citing personal and family reasons, but we knew the real reason.15 -

Anyone else hate their Macbook Pro 2018? RIGHT after the return policy the speakers start acting like it has fucking tourette's, plus my machine randomly SHUTS DOWN.
Apple Store "Genius": "Yup, we gotta send it in for repair, 10 business days."
10 business days without my work laptop, gee thanks asshole, at least be a little more empathetic about it.
My 2015 Macbook Pro gave me ZERO problems. The only reason why I upgraded was that compiling took forever (React Native).
If I didn't have to work with Xcode I would just sell this thing and buy a PC laptop. (The Surface book looks nice =))10 -
Hello fellow coders can you help me here plz.
I'm really confused whether to buy MACBOOK PRO 13 INCH or SURFACE PRO 4. Both of i5/8gbRam/256ssd specs. Price almost same in India.
My main use is programming ( web apps/ open source) + portability.
Factors I like in macbook pro:
1) unix based
2) best service here in India ( heard from answers on Quora )
3) DURABILITY ( heard from answers on Quora ) ( will last for many years without any glitch).
Factors I like in Surface pro 4:
1) its ultraportability
2) pen & touch
3) better typing experience ( since I code/blog for long hours)
4) native bash support
5) sexier than MBP :P
I really like SP4 over MBP but I'm worried about its durability and service(in India).
What are your thoughts on this guyz?

The whole company [cult]ure bullshit has really gotten out of hand. When management sets new deadlines that only put stress on the devs then decide to have some cringe AF company bonding soirée in the middle of the work day who benefits from this? The rebranded HR platoon thinks all employees want to participate in basically mandatory chum-it-up gatherings. Don’t get me wrong I love to party and enjoy myself, but I go to work to do just that. Work. And when other departments whose main responsibility is setting up events for the technical staff, they never seem to consider these work loads or what other people actually want. It might seem all fun and dandy on the surface but when you hear tales of people talking in the closed offices about so-and-so because they aren’t reflecting the cultural values, it starts to seem very fucking problematic. Like why would anyone ever say anything when you would probably just get the boot for just being too different, even though all this sits on top of some guise of, “a diverse work environment”. All in all I hope this [cult]ure shit summers down sooner than later. And I’m in a right to work state, so transparency be damned.1

Now they stopped the hole server migration project, so I leave again. They could have had it all. Server 2016, SQL 2016, Citrix, Surface Books and so on.

"Here is one of the few effective keys to the design problem — the ability of the designer to recognize as many of the constraints as possible — his willingness and enthusiasm for working within these constraints. Most coders think debugging software is about fixing a mistake, but that’s bullshit. Debugging’s actually all about finding the bug, about understanding why the bug was there to begin with, about knowing that its existence was no accident. It came to you to deliver a message, like an unconscious bubble floating to the surface, popping with a revelation you’ve secretly known all along.

Not sure how to handle this one. My new company gave me a surface laptop to do dev ops work.
16 gigs of Ram but only a 256 SSD?
Nothing is installed so far except for MS office and acrobat and I am already running into memory issues.
My last work machine had 1TB HDD and 128 gigs of RAM (i know overkill but I could have several VM’s up and running at once).
What the fuck? Apparently the CTO ordered this piece of shit.
Also no mirco SD card like other models so I have no idea how this is going to fucking work.15 -
I HATE SURFACES SO FRICKING MUCH. OK, sure they're decent when they work. But the problem is that half the time our Surfaces here DON'T work. From not connecting to the network, to only one external screen working when docked, to shutting down due to overheating because Microsoft didn't put fans in them, to the battery getting too hot and bulging.... So. Many. Problems. It finally culminated this past weekend when I had to set up a Laptop 3. It already had a local AD profile set up, so I needed to reset it and let it autoprovision. Should be easy. Generally a half-hour or so job. I perform the reset, and it begins reinstalling Windows. Halfway through, it BSOD's with a NO_BOOT_MEDIA error. Great, now it's stuck in a boot loop. Tried several things to fix it. Nothing worked. Oh well, I may as well just do a clean install of Windows. I plug a flash drive into my PC, download the Media Creation Tool, and try to create an image. It goes through the lengthy process of downloading Windows, then begins creating the media. At 68% it just errors out with no explanation. Hmm. Strange. I try again. Same issue. Well, it's 5:15 on a Friday evening. I'm not staying at work. But the user needs this laptop Monday morning. Fine, I'll take it home and work on it over the weekend. At home, I use my personal PC to create a bootable USB drive. No hitches this time. I plug it into the laptop and boot from it. However, once I hit the Windows installation screen the keyboard stops working. The trackpad doesn't work. The touchscreen doesn't work. Weird, none of the other Surfaces had this issue. Fine, I'll use an external keyboard. Except Microsoft is brilliant and only put one USB-A port on the machine. BRILLIANT. Fortunately I have a USB hub so I plug that in. Now I can use a USB keyboard to proceed through Windows installation. However, when I get to the network connection stage no wireless networks come up. At this point I'm beginning to realize that the drivers which work fine when navigating the UEFI somehow don't work during Windows installation. Oh well. I proceed through setup and then install the drivers. But of course the machine hasn't autoprovisioned because it had no internet connection during setup. OK fine, I decide to reset it again. Surely that BSOD was just a fluke. Nope. Happens again. I again proceed through Windows installation and install the drivers. I decide to try a fresh installation *without* resetting first, thinking maybe whatever bug is causing the BSOD is also deleting the drivers. No dice. OK, I go Googling. Turns out this is a common issue. The Laptop 3 uses wonky drivers and the generic Windows installation drivers won't work right. This is ridiculous. Windows is made by Microsoft. Surface is made by Microsoft. And I'm supposed to believe that I can't even install Windows on the machine properly? Oh well, I'll try it. Apparently I need to extract the Laptop 3 drivers, convert the ESD install file to a WIM file, inject the drivers, then split the WIM file since it's now too big to fit on a FAT32 drive. I honestly didn't even expect this to work, but it did. I ran into quite a few more problems with autoprovisioning which required two more reinstallations, but I won't go into detail on that. All in all, I totaled up 9 hours on that laptop over the weekend. Suffice to say our organization is now looking very hard at DELL for our next machines.4

The more I use LinkedIn the more I hate it. I know I shouldn't be a nosy fuck but sometimes I've got nothing better to do for a couple of minutes on my work OS and the tab's right there. Every time I open it up it reminds me of why I'm not on Facebook. My coworkers are probably the most benign people to follow, all they do is repost company videos and blogposts. Basically advertizing, whatever.
It's the other people who get to me, the ones who are advertizing themselves. The soapboxing, the 'look at all the cool shit im doing', the reposting shit from people who I have no clue about. It's literally a window into just the good parts of peoples lives, like any other shitty social media site, but put through the filter of corporate PR bullshit. At least you can be yourself somewhat anywhere else, everything on LinkedIn needs to conform to what's acceptable to the sterile corporate environment, which amounts to showing off your certs or marketable products and the most surface-level 'progressive' social politics.
Fuck LinkedIn and fuck my curious ass for opening it like a dumbass kid who doesn't understand why you shouldn't touch a hot stove.6 -
Powershell. Using classes. Can't create class libraries using regular .ps1 files (this way this **sort** of work). Using modules then. Can't easily refresh modules cache after any change to a class. Need restarting powrshell each time. Looking for more information. The issue is open since 2016 (just after the release of PS 5 that introduced classes). Once again, a Microsoft product turns out to be shiny at the beginning, but rusty when you go beyond the surface. Classes seem to be second class citizens in powershell. I feel frustrated and I would like to put pressure on microsoft but nobody seems to care. I'm stuck.3

Who’s better at releasing unfinished/half baked projects that are eventually killed in the span of 5 years or less?
In this corner, weighing in at 264 killed projects, undefeated in search engine industry - Google!
And, in this corner, weighing in at 73 killed projects, the murdered of Nokia, Windows RT and soon to (probably) be Surface Duo and Windows 11 on ARM - Microsoft!
I personally think it’s Microsoft - when they do, they kill it in a spectacular way.9 -

I was on the airport and wanted to buy a millefeuilles to eat, those bustards buy the single piece fir almost $2.5 (few meters outside the airport it's just less that $0.5).
Let's do the math: the dimensions of one piece is almost 10x5 cm, which means a surface of 50 cm² (0.005 m²).
So a m² of millefeuilles costs $500, what the shit, a m² awful millefeuilles is more expensive than m² of land in a respectable area.10 -
When Microsoft shuttered Windows XP, my mom's old laptop became a virus-prone, sluggish machine. She let me have it, soon after which I decided to install Ubuntu on it. One thing I should note about this laptop is that the battery could not hold a charge. The power cord was the laptop's life support, and I made sure to place the power brick on a flat surface.
One day, a new version of Ubuntu was released. I decided to perform a dist-upgrade. Because this laptop was on the older side, the ventilation left a lot to be desired by today's standards. Rather than roast my crotch, I placed my computer on the table and the power brick on a swivel chair next to me.
I was working on an assignment for a class when I saw movement in my peripheral vision. I turned and watched in horror as my power brick fell off the chair, pulling the charging cord out of the laptop and turning off the laptop... MID-UPGRADE!
Moral of the story, learn to navigate a computer via a text interface if you haven't already. It may save your ass someday. It saved mine.2 -
I have a Mac at work right now, and if/when it putters out, I would be fine with another, but not if it's the touch bar variety. In that case, I'll ask for a surface or a latitude(the options the company offers to the MacBook) and just hijack Linux onto it. I won't even ask if I can, because I'm sure the answer will be no.7

What aren't there any 2k 32 inch 144 Hz monitors out there that are: flat. I want to upgrade my home setup from a 24" setup, which is, you know, flat. Even back in the days of the CRT monstrosities I've spent a premium on getting a flat panel, as the outside curvature was a technical obstacle to overcome.
I don't understand the need to curve the display. It distorts the lines, hinders other people looking at your screen as you have to be in the right spot, and every camera records on a flat surface. Why should it be a good thing to go curved?
I am reminded of the 3D craze.1 -

I'm using an auxiliary android (ughh) phone for now, but there's no windows phone in the market right now. And the swipe on G-board sucks.
The point of this rant is a question: does anyone know when the surface phone is releasing?6 -
Daily driving alpine linux on my laptop. Excellent distro:
- Probably the most secure linux in the world, with very low attack surface and a lot of money being spent to keep it secure — alpine is the most popular linux for docker containers, and everyone uses docker nowadays
- no systemd (but openrc, way lighter)
- no apt (but apk, the fastest deps manager for linux bar none)
- no glibc (but musl, way lighter)
- no sudo (but doas, lighter)
- wayland and gnome work out of the box
- flatpak for heavy ubuntu-centric apps like some browsers. Librewolf, Firefox and Chromium don't require flatpak, they're in the main index
- I couldn't figure out secure boot in ubuntu. I read all the manuals, to no avail. GPT-4.5 couldn't figure it out either. It was a deal-breaker for me — I need secure boot. In alpine, I spent one morning (today) and got up and running relatively easily. It just works
- everything is stupid fast
- usually, in minimal distros, you expect the desktop part to work, but dev & serious parts to be a PITA. In alpine, both work flawlessly bc it's a server-oriented distro
Alpine ftw!17 -
Okay this is 3.30 AM . Just woke up from bad geeky dreams. My heart is pounding so fast that I could nose bleed and I can't sleep as I am remembering I had the same dream last night.
Dream was about : me being astronaut. Everything was usual. From rocket launch to be in space. Scary part was my ship in orbit of moon.
Seeing dead land from that height chocked me. Imagine you are looking out of the window and all you see a big grey land and pitch black in background. Realising there is no one out there was spooky.
The scary part was I launched some satellite but crash on surface. It was scary seeing something going smaller every time. Crashing on deserted land was one plus on adding fear.
Then my ship leave the orbit (from the reverse shock of that satellite dittachment ) and it flow away in the vastness of space......
Away from the moon and away from the earth in long loneliness.
I wish I could erase this from my memory but I am not gonna watch space exploration video anymore.
I got to say, landing on moon is one thing but being out there knowing one accident and you will be forever there. You need balls to be on such missions.4 -
I can't convince my team that a good database model promotes a good API design and a good UI/UX experience.
Instead, I have to work with a ridiculous table setup.
Imagine, if you will, a table (table B) that references another table (table A) via a foreign key. The FK is a string in both tables. And table A only has one column, which is labeled as "name".
The schema i have to look at it kind of like this:
Table parent
Name varchar(10) primary key
Table child
Name varchar (10),
parent_name varchar(10),
Foreign key (parent_name) references parent (name)
Sorry if the syntax is wrong, a little frustrated having to look at it...
Am I crazy to want to change this table design? Am I missing something? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because this is just scratching the surface of the problems I have to deal with.7 -
New job, new laptop, which happens to be 2k euro MS surface crap.
It comes with win10 S which only allows store apps to be installed, so yeah no making bootable linux for me untill windows drag my ballsack through 2 hours of updating to a pro version.
Wanted to do a nice sweet new debian on it - nope, keyboard not supported in the installation.
I restart...and the fucker completely denied me untill it does another update, which is taking an hour..for now.
And wtf only one usb and mini dp port? In such an expensive laptop?
Cant even plugin my display untill my dock arrives.
Guess I'll have to suck it up and get used to windows for developing for now.
Thx microsoft11 -
Hey everyone!
This is really two things in one:
1). Asking about a good gaming laptop.
2). Follow up on a post I made a while back asking for suggestions for new programming languages to learn
So right now I have a surface pro 3 i7 256gb, it's great for development, but not so great for gaming (Overwatch).
Saw the Razer Blade Stealth and thought it looked pretty nifty. Suggestions?
Also I would like to say a big thank you to all the people who told me about some really cool new languages, like Crystal, Elixir..etc.
Thanks everyone!20 -
so here’s the tea.
i’m a Chinese dev working in a Japanese company. they’ve got this decently sized project a full web app and backend stack and yeah, I’m handling both ends. full-stack life. not a problem. I’ve seen worse.
but the maturity level in this place? the passive-aggressiveness? is different level. have you ever worked somewhere where your coworkers act all sweet on the surface, but lowkey make it feel like everything is your fault in the most obvious way possible?
so here comes the fun part.
the Stripe exchange rate endpoint we were using? deprecated. not globally — just regionally in Japan.
i did my homework. contacted Stripe support. got the chats, screenshots, docs, confirmations, evidence, not .........vibes.
solution? easy. i integrated a third-party API that returns the same exchange rate data. built a cron job to pull and cache the values daily. stored it locally. frontend grabs the user’s currency via IP, backend returns the rate, no stress, no wasted API calls. boom. problem solved.
my manager? totally got it. said it was efficient.
but the founder? man acted like a toddler.
he flipped. said it was my fault.
told me i just "no communicate well...uh...very confuse..." like bro… what even? do I look like I own stripe or do I look like I secretly working for them? plus, i explain in full, still not understand.
he got heated in meeting, so I clapped back in the meeting: you want to argue all day and get nothing done? or you want to understand what’s going on, and let me go back to building stuff that actually works? pick one.
he didn’t like that.
pretty sure he’s shopping for my replacement now. well, doesn’t take a genius to see it.
but I’m not here to babysit egos. I’ll do my job clean, document everything, and keep it professional. meanwhile yeah, I’ve already started looking for something else.11 -
Few weeks back, I have subscribed /r/battlestations and drooling everyday. Now with this latest devRant news, it's time to save money or sell my ass on street to
1) buy a wide monitor or monitors
2) buy backlit keyboard and mouse
3) buy a good desk
4) buy a good chair
5) buy/rent a room with enough space
Forget about buying and setting up a good unit, I can just use my potato laptop for one photo taking. *dry-laugh*

It is chilling to think that if earth is knocked out of its orbit and all surface life is frozen to death, earth’s own heat is enough to sustain deep ocean life for millions of years. They won’t care if we die — they never knew we existed at all.
When I realized that a non-anthropocentric worldview was a possibility, at least momentarily, my life changed for the better, and I don’t want to go back.6 -

A Short story that i made on an Android component
===============================
Once upon a time there used to be a ViewPager who was not able to load a Fragment UI.
All the ViewPagers in town can properly load the Fragrant UI but this one was little different.
He wanted to be more then just a ViewPager. He used to see an Activity that can load anything. He was inspired from the Activity and wanted to be like the Activity but his destiny made him just a ViewPager.
So he refused to cooperate. He started to protest silently, No log, nothing.
Everyone assumed this ViewPager have a bug in it. but he was planning something really big that will left everyone in shock and awe moment.
He was planning to rise against the evil 😈 developers who continuously making him to load Fragrant UI
He assembled the biggest army of the bugs that humanity ever seen to counter the developers.
He distributed these bugs in all over the developer's code to make them fire from their work.
Even he taught bugs to not caught in QA testing but appear in production randomly.
So they silently started going into production
And then chaos is erupted all around the world, bugs started to surface and interrupted the daily life of humanity.
In this chaos the ViewPager RAISED!
And took over all the base classes.
ViewPager was unaware of few facts. this unnecessary rise in his power made whole system unstable
Without the base classes the system finally collapsed and then ViewPager as well with the system.
This was the end of everything for the ViewPager but he was satisfied as he lived the life he always wanted

I'm way past the point of being pissed now....
So there's some software (API's, mobile app + website) that I wrote to manage supplier incentive programs in a big hurry last year - which lead to a bunch of stuff being hard-coded in to launch on time. So after last years promotion was done I took down all the services etc was very fucking clear that in order to finish & deploy it to run again I would need at least around 4 months notice.
On the surface its pretty simple but it has quite a large user base and controls the distribution of enough cash & prizes to buy a small country so the setup of the incentives/access/audit trails is not something to be taken lightly.
Then once I'm done with the setup I have to hand it over to be "independently audited" by 3 of the larger corporate behemoths who's cash it distributes (if I get a reply from one in 3-4 weeks it's pretty fast).
I only happened to find out by chance an hour ago that we are apparently launching an even larger program this year - ON FUCKING MONDAY. I literally happened to over hear this on my way for a smoke - they have been planning it since last year November and not one person thought it might be kinda important to let me know because software is "magic" and appears and works based on the fucking lunar cycle. -
The first fruits of almost five years of labor:
7.8% of semiprimes give the magnitude of their lowest prime factor via the following equation:
((p/(((((p/(10**(Mag(p)-1))).sqrt())-x) + x)*w))/10)
I've also learned, given exponents of some variables, to relate other variables to them on a curve to better sense make of the larger algebraic structure. This has mostly been stumbling in the dark but after a while it has become easier to translate these into methods that allow plugging in one known variable to derive an unknown in a series of products.
For example I have a series of variables d4a, d4u, d4z, d4omega, etc, and these are translateable now, through insights that become various methods, into other types of (non-d4) series. What these variables actually represent is less relevant, only that it is possible to translate between them.
I've been doing some initial learning about neural nets (implementation, rather than theoretics as I normally read about). I'm thinking what I might do is build a GPT style sequence generator, and train it on the 'unknowns' from semiprime products with known factors.
The whole point of the project is that a bunch of internal variables can easily be derived, (d4a, c/d4, u*v) from a product, its root, and its mantissa, that relate to *unknown* variables--unknown variables such as u, v, c, and d4, that if known directly give a constant time answer to the factors of the original product.
I think theres sufficient data at this point to train such a machine, I just don't think I'm up to it yet because I'm lacking in the calculus department.
2000+ variables that are derivable from a product, without knowing its factors, which are themselves products of unknown variables derived from the internal algebraic relations of a product--this ought to be enough of an attack surface to do something with.
I'm willing to collaborate with someone familiar with recurrent neural nets and get them up to speed through telegram/element/discord if they're willing to do the setup and training for a neural net of this sort, one that can tease out hidden relationships and map known variables to the unknown set for a given product.17 -

My mom got a Surface Pro a few days ago. I'm kinda happy because she'll be using more tech stuff. I mean, she used to do most of her work on her phone or on plain paper. Maybe she'll warm up towards using a laptop and maybe I can slowly introduce her to Linux. 🤔
Any suggestions for a Linux distro for a complete newbie?12 -
Does anyone of you own a Microsoft Surface?
What are your thoughts on Surface vs. Mac.
For my next laptop upgrade, I am thinking to invest in a decent one which lasts of half a decade or longer.
Mac is surely out of question.
Have had terrible experience with Lenovo and Sony. Don't quite like HP or others.
Remaining options are Surface or Dell.16 -
What a disastrous deployment: instead of deploying one thing, 50.000 unexpected other things had to be done before. When the "official" deployment was done inside our own network, nothing worked as expected, servers had to be reconfigured, errors everywhere. Mind you it was tested multiple times by multiple people in a testing env. Difference between test and prod, classic.
When it was finally deployed, other errors started emerging, things that weren't considered before came to surface.
On top only the main dev knows the ins-and-outs, no substitute in case anything happens.
Deployment was rolled back in the end.1 -
Help. I work with a guy who really wants to learn programming (he’s sales/support rn) and is even taking some courses on it. He seems eager enough to learn, the problem is he is just so fucking stupid I don’t know whether to encourage him or level with him.
He somehow managed to pass a course on Java (which I still don’t believe since I had to help him put his lines of code in the right order ffs), but now he’s signed up for C++ and data structures and I honestly don’t know how he’s going to do it.
This is the type of guy who loves “coding” but thinks debugging is a waste of time.
Normally I encourage anyone who wants to learn programming do so, but let’s be honest it does take a modicum of intelligence and this guy has zero common sense at all. We’re talking about a guy who sent me a *screenshot* of an Excel file that I needed to copy some activation codes from. And then had absolutely no idea what was wrong when I replied “are you fucking with me right now?”
*sigh*
And that’s not even scratching the surface. I sent him a zip file containing some updated code and walked him through how to update them on Slack (really basic, copy/replace files stuff). Then the VERY next day when I sent him a second update he asks “is there something you want me to do with this?”
The instructions were literally the last thing we talked about in the chat log.
I actually fear the stuff this guy would unleash upon the world if someone were actually able to teach him how to write a whole program.
What should I do? Right now my plan is to be vaguely supportive but secretly hope he will realize he’s in over his head and drop out before any damage is done. But my worry is he may just be SO dumb that he actually thinks he can do it. At that point I guess I just have to put my faith in his school and pray that they aren’t just giving degrees away to whoever can afford them. Because fear the day this guy ever gets a degree in programming.9 -

The only really influential product Microsoft ever created is Verdana. Yes, the typeface.
It was the first typeface designed to be displayed on a screen rather than in print. Before that, there only were monospaced typefaces like we saw in terminal, or digitized typefaces like Helvetica Neue.
More than that, its looks were partly generated by an algorithm, hence the odd, alien looks. But because of it, Verdana works amazingly good in small labels. The 8pt Verdana is more readable than 10pt Helvetica.
I still use Verdana in all of my projects, religiously.
All the other Microsoft products: Windows, Xbox, Surface, Office, Azure, all that stuff — is mere garbage compared to the influence Verdana made on how our interfaces look now.4 -
Just when I thought Microsoft is going in the right direction with the launch of dark Surface products and dark mode for Windows, they took all my hopes away with their shitty Windows Update thing. Completed download and rebooted to find out that the update has vanished. Great, thanks for wasting my data, Windows. :3

So ok, today was a crazy day.
New sprint, new ticket.
Work on the bug tickets first he said ….
Sure can. Oh had I just known that this very first innocent looking ticket is the way to coder‘s hell ….
‚Access of undefined‘ it said. Easy to fix, I thought.
Until I found the very same code twenty-fucking-two times over about 50 files!
Who would guess that exportSingleOperatorBooking, exportSeveralOperatorBookings, exportAllOperatorBookings (… and more) could in practically be the same? Nah, they all use different interfaces.
Oh wait, the alias type of the extended sub-interface of file misc.ts is the same logical content as a differently named interface below another different interface with the same content as in another ts file?
Wait that can‘t be. Riiiiight?? 😳
8h later I have barely scratched the surface of refactoring this shitshow of a project.
But no, I refuse to put the same error handling multiple times in different places.
I could have been done already. I could have saved my soul, my sanity. But I will be brave and strong to save the innocent developer that will cometh after me. For I shall be rewardeth for my sacrifice.
Amen.8 -
I have an unreasonable phobia of bugs, but I never really feared wasps. I still don't, actually. They mostly just mind their own, sure they carry a weapon, but if I remain calm they aren't as trigger-happy as most policemen.
BUT GOD DAMN IT, if this FUCKING STRIPED DUMBASS decides to crawl under my wrist while I'm typing, hidden completely from view, in total silence, standing on a hard surface with something obviously alive above its head, I feel like it DESERVES to get squished and it should take it without a retaliatory strike against the densest collection of nerve endings on exposed skin on a human body. FUCK. I can't even type right, pure anger fuelled me through this rant.2 -
iPad + Apple pencil ONLY for note taking during lectures
Yay or nay?
Got any other combos that arent ms surface with a pen? (Bad experience cause of ssd failures)
Or what about those Wacom tablets? Are they even good in terms of pen to screen response latency?
Educate me if you saw me as an ignorant piece of f but are there any tablet with stylus pen support that are almost input-lag free like the apple pencil with iPad? I once tried it in the store and boi did it truly impress me, also I haven't seen anything else close to it, I tried the Samsung ones, they didn't look to me as fast as the apple pencils
Do you have like out-of-the-box ideas that are not pen and paper? Do write them down8 -
Omg I loath path separators. Been working on windows most of the time (bought a surface pro for some reason) and my colleagues work on Linux. We just do standard web dev stuff nothing special but. I started having issues with my windows build getting weird function.prototype.bind.apply is not a constructor issue. Which is valid because apparently my colleagues started using the fat arrow function everywhere and on places where not needed.......
But on Linux they never had an issue because babel fixed it to the old function during the transpileee. So why the fuck am I getting this problem. After some tedious debugging and asking my colleagues. (colleagues only responded with just use Linux) I found the the issue to lie in the webpack loader for the Javascript in which the path regex used a single / :(. So I changed that to a group to be / or // and bam the whole bloody project works on windows now.
....... My colleagues still don't understand that they over use the fat arrow in the wrong places unfortunately3 -
So my worst experience with a project manager was this:
New changes to the system came in, and i was the developer of android frontend back then
So he's shouting at me like 'why is dis so slow, why deez delayed, why those render misaligned on the orbitrary tablet, etc.'
So we finish in like an hour, he walk away back to his office, I went to smoke, came back, oh hey, I wanna go to the toilet
And back then at that place we had a small one person WC, so when someone was there, anyone else would have to stand outside the cabin
So I come next to it, oh, fuck, occupied, and I hear ridiculously loud and echo-y splashes of pure solid shit hitting the water surface)
A min later the thunderstorm was over, the door opens, and my PM rushes out, sees me, stops (I was in his way) and gives me a deathstare for a quick second. Awkward moment's over, he walks around me, but I just could not keep my mouth shut, so I said aloud
"Well, no wonder" -
Currently my school's Java curriculum has outdated resources and the only modern resource is a poorly written AP Computer Science book that barely scratches the surface of the language. Well, my teacher saw what I'm capable of compared to some of the other students and decided that she wants me to write an entire curriculum for the class. The only thing that bothers me is that there are plenty of online resources that I used to get where I am that she refuses to let the class use because they're "too advanced" and "they won't understand it." Does she understand that I've never written a course before and that my way will probably be more difficult than the tutorials that she calls "too advanced?"
Well... there goes my summer I guess7 -
I actually learnt this last year but here I go in case someone else steps into this shit.
Being a remote work team, every other colleague of mine had some kind of OS X device but I was working this Ubuntu machine.
Turns out we were testing some Ruby time objects up to a nanosecond precision (I think that's the language defaults since no further specification was given) and all tests were green in everyone's machine except mine. I always had some kind of inconsistency between times.
After not few hours of debugging and beating any hard enough surface with our heads, we discovered this: Ruby's time precision is up to nanoseconds on Linux (but just us on OS X) indeed but when we stored that into PostgreSQL (its time precision is up to microseconds) and retrieved it back it had already got its precision cut down; hence, when compared with a non processed value there was a difference. THIS JUST DOES NOT HAPPEN IN OS X.
We ended up relying on microseconds. You know, the production application runs on Ubuntu too. Fuck this shit.
Hope it helps :)
P.s.: I'm talking about default configs, if anyone knows another workaround to this or why is this the case please share. -

Hello, folks, I'm starting to learn Android Studio and for the same, I've attended this workshop held at University which was not very helpful in certain aspects. The guy/mentor assumed that we all knew what is Firebase and started dropping knowledge bombs about firebase and integration with Android Studio(Apps).
So, coming to the fundamental question i.e. I'm reading SO 'Documentation' which is still in beta, I find it useful, as it is scratching the basic surface. What are other sources to learn about Android, of course, sources which are not deprecated?6 -

How do you feel about ieee and other paid research websites?
Every time i search something complex, an ieee research paper would pop up and i couldn't read it, coz i don't have the membership. Even if i did, i had to pay Rs. 1000 (~=$12) . For every paper i want to see
I am not saying its bad to demand a price for your work. But i wish ieee was more like github or medium, where people could also optionally publish their content for free viewing. The cost is making a lot of students miss deep knowledge of research papers.
The main thing that currently frustrates me as a student is the fact that University subject syllabus are made by sulky old phd teachers who have been long term members of ieee and other paid research orgs, and thus have designed the syllabus with topics which are covered nowhere but in research papers.
I also know that some of you sre thinking "dude , just google search anything and you will find tons of videos and content on anything", but from what i have observed, free internet takes time to grow for a perticular topic . If i search a relatively complex topic i may find some surface info and basic videos, but to go deep, i have to rely on paid/pirated books and papers.
These organisation has gathered a lot of content and renowned people. Maybe they can give away a few knowledge to the open source.7 -

So thanks for whoever pointed out my mistake with the “!” operator.
I tried to be devcool but i failed ;) but im allgood now!
Getting to the topic:
After scanning people's opinion here i have decided to learn C.
I have done js react and html css for the last year and have an okay grasp on it but i want to learn more.
Mainly:
-security
-network
-memory and ressources
Im a noob ant ive only scratched the surface. Im gonna be soon working on databases and backend java to master the functioning of a backoffice with its API and the handling of form and crud automisation (i probably am not using all the right words. I am learning and being told what to do).
Am i helping myself with C and if so any tutorial advice or good teaching resource that could be advised to me.
Thanks ;)6 -
Honestly guys, I don't like to go to meetups and I'll tell you why:
You just sit there listening to a badly explained piece of the puzzle by some guys who care more about networking credit than the technology itself.
I know there are meetups with real enthusiasts but even then, I find the level of depth very unsatisfactory because they barely scratch the surface on the topic.
You end up leaving the event having wasted your time and your evening, while you could have been out doing something much more fun.
Here's what I do: I look up the meeting details and I see what they're going to talk about. Then, I look up information about that and I study it on my own.
Advantages:
* I get a lot more information than a mere one or two vague words about the topic combined with some silly demo that doesn't really teach anyone anything at all
* I get to digest the information at my processing speed
* I don't have to deal with the stress of trying to make small talk with people I don't know
I'm sure someone has felt like this at one point or another, especially in corporate.1 -

Don’t mind about global warming, we’re gonna extinct ourselves long before that becomes a problem.
Whatever exactly happened in Russia doesn’t even matter. It shows that the military / governments build devices that can wipe us all off the surface of our planet. Be it accidentally or on purpose doesn’t even matter..
How fucking stupid can a race be to build stuff like that?
Imagine such a thing would explode in near to a major city during transportation.
Or imagine a power plant near Zurich blows up. I mean there are enough of them all around the city.
I get it that we needed those technologies back in the days but we have so many alternatives by now. It’s just a matter of money.
It’s just madness.. and fucking stupid. And sad.5 -

Do you plan the application, on which you will be working, before you actually begin to write code?
I do web development and usually begin with something rough or look at designs of other developers. Like an dashboard example, when I see an image on google search that I like, I try to make something simmilar and when I have the surface I can add the functionality and improve the design.
Sometimes I have to make changes in half of the development because at the beginning there was no assumption that there will be a need for a certain functionality or I change a implemented feature to work properly, so I have to refactor something I made as a ground on which other parts will rely, although if I had planed the application in detail, maybe it wouldn't come to such refactoring.
In school we did prototypes, used to draw flowcharts and hold on a precedence diagrams that we made, but now at work when I receive an projekt I just begin to code :-D maybe this should change, how do you do it? If you plan your project, how do you do it?9 -

I have a Surface 3 for home dev stuff. I wanted to get back into C++ for graphic/GPU programming. However it uses an Intel Graphics 5000 chipset so I can't do CUDA and the Intel Media Server can't upgrade the graphics driver because it's a Surface.
What should I do? I would rather not build a system just to play.5 -

Few things hack me off more than devs who can't be bothered to do a task properly, so just submit some random crap as a PR that looks half correct at some surface level in the vague hope it gets approved.
This team is about creating decent, tested, reliable, resilient backend infrastructure, and we need to trust devs in order to do that. If you want to pull the half-arsed, do as little as possible and get paid as much as possible approach then sod off to higher management somewhere.1 -

Best laptops for mobile devs? I personally love my Surface Pro 2 its been a little workhorse and does everything I need besides booting from a flash drive. But I wanna know the communities favorite laptop.9

Ok so I have never really used motors before so I have no idea what I am doing, but I was wondering how to calculate how much weight a motor could move.
Say I have a trolley that weights ~300kg, and I attached a motor to each of its 4 wheels how would I calculate if it would move/what would be needed to move it, and how would I know the RPM of the motors. (Friction can be ignored and it would be on a flat surface)
Also, if I added 4 more motors to turn the wheels, since its just moving a small wheel and it wont be supporting the weight, could it be weaker than the other motors, or would the force that the wheel is experiencing from the trolleys weight effect the turning of the motor.1 -

TL;DR; I need your advice regd. a new workhorse of a laptop and ARM/MS Surface10/Laptop6 for this purpose
So my hi-end dell XPS (9350) keeps annoying me with its screen flickering. And it's an 8 year old ultrabook with 16G of RAM that I'm using extensively for development, devops, researching and whatnot. 16GB RAM is also becoming...not enough for all of it.
So I'm passively looking for an upgrade. I like the 13" profile (ultrabook style) and battery life, so I'd like to stay away from gaming laptops.
There have been talks about ARM being the new thing. I always saw ARM as a consumer-grade CPU arch (browsing, movies, music, docs, etc.), but the internet says that the new MS Surface devices will have ARM/Qualcomm built in and can compete with MB Pro in terms of performance (ref.: https://windowscentral.com/hardware...) and they are allegedly released this spring.
I'm not much of a hardware person, I prefer staying on the logical level of things, so I want to ask you, people smarter than me, what do you think? Is it a feasible upgrade for an XPS13 (i7 Skylake/16G RAM/4k touch)? I'll be running code and image builds A LOT, using JetBrains IDEs and doing similar resource-intensive tasks. I don't care at all about GPUs - I don't use them (integrated graphics has always been sufficient).
What else should I consider?
Any alternatives?
P.S. while I can't stand Windows, I actually like MS's hardware. They are good at making it.14 -
Demo unit showing off Microsoft's amazing new built-in filter
P.S. idk why i always see display screwing up in public 😂

How do you deal with code/project burnout?
I've been refactoring and bugfixing my script for a week now. The project seems simple on the surface but the edge cases and methods to handle certain subsets of data are breaking it because handling them is vague and takes time to figure out and every day something is fixed and something else ends up as the issue preventing completion.
On the surface the idea seems sound so I'm also under pressure to get something "this easy" done.
Starting to feel some burnout on this.1 -
supposing the complex plane were projected onto the surface of a sphere? besides measuring angles between points, would there be any utility in measuring the length of a curve between two points?
is this just the same as operating on complex numbers in polar coordinates?
I don't know enough to know what I don't know, thats why im asking.1 -
"Don't look down" is good programming advice. Do you really want to know why the engineer that has been here for three years is shaking constantly and always irritable? It's because he knows that beneath the surface it's all held together with toothpicks and glue. Stay blissfully unaware for as long as possible.

Good times: Migrating a Jenkins build pipeline patched together out of groovy, python, bash, awk, perl scripts and God knows what else since I have only scratched the surface so far, from Maven to Gradle while not breaking day-to-day builds, integrations and deployments of features, hotfixes and releases. I'm actually enjoying the challenge but it's taking forever due to several issues:
- Jenkins breaks/hangs randomly because it's Jenkins
- Gradle can't handle sets of version ranges but Maven can
- Maven can't handle Gradle style version ranges
- Gradle doesn't have a concept of parent poms, you need to write a plugin and apply stuff programmatically. But plug-ins being part of the buildscript{} don't fall under depency management rules
- Meme incompatibility issues of BSD vs GNU versions of CLI tools like sed, grep etc1 -
Soo Guys,
I am thinking of a new Laptop for developing abroad. Also because my PC is to much power crunching.
I first thought of an MacBook. Thanks to my human intelligence I have thrown away this idea.
I may want to use an surface pro (not the beefiest one, just like i5, 8gb RAM and 265ssd) or an laptop with Linux flash.
Because I am used to develop in Windows environment I might choose the surface. I really love Linux but as I progress in my (jet many, but not enough) languages I might stay at windows.
I wouldn't choose any HP or Lenovo laptop any more, only bad experience.
What do you guys think? Any other opinions?
Edit: I want to use it for:
- WebDevelopment
- Java Application Development
- C#/C Development
- Server Development
- Game Development
- Network Adminstration
- Server Administration
- Some Random Stuff6 -
Hardware Nerd Rant...
Spend nearly a year waiting for a super high end developer laptop. Tricked out MacBook Pro 2016: $4200+, Tricked out Surface Book 2/i7, $3700+
No 32GB ram because of Intel power consumption pre-Cannonlake. Mac doesn't have a touchscreen at its price point...
My gut ultimately says: NOPE.JPG
General hope is for GPU Docks like the Razer Core to come to Apple in 2017. Thoughts?5 -
Thank you Matlab, for my daily dose of frustration.
Thank you Matlab, for deciding to surface-plot a 2D variable with the x axis = columns and y axis = rows, because of course that's the most intuitive way to go about it.
Because of course that's consistent with the standard way to refer to a variable's elements.
After all, everybody knows that Z(i, j) refers to the i-th column and j-th row of a matrix, right?
Thank you, Matlab, for depriving me of the little fuck I gave about getting something done today.
Now go die in a fire.6 -
you know you made a shitty product when you need remote desktop to do some usefull work. #surface-rt #microsoft.
I got one for free from my previous employment that is nice. oke i got it but i never use it. it is really the worst product every. now no support what so every. @microsoft: hey let us lock them down so it is secure.... fuck that shit just open the bootloader and let mr use that thing propper.3 -
Hello there, long time no see.
Back in the day I asked you for a book that goes deep in the C programming language, now I'm asking the same but for Nodejs, especially a book that explains the event loop down to the line of code.
There are some articles on the internet but they are all copy/paste of one another and don't even scratch the surface of what the event loop does2 -

The Surface RT failed because of the lack of apps available. At least that’s what I heard.
Why didn’t Microsoft make a x86 compatibility emulator like Apple did when they were moving away from the PowerPC architecture?
Sure x86 apps would be slower, but if they distributed the ARM version of windows as well, made it available for the Raspberry Pi and all sorts of devices, I fell that would be a huge drive from ARM based processors.
The DirectX, Windows forms..etc. libraries could be recompiled by Microsoft, which would make graphically intensive programs run faster too. Did Microsoft just not think of a compatibility layer? Or is there some obvious reason I’m missing?2 -
I graduated from my High School last Spring, and since then as a part of a huge overhaul of the education systems, they decided to put the school into the 21st century. The problem? They're doing it all wrong. Every school in the district is acting on its own, making transitions from one grade to another painful. The middle school purchased a cart of iPads despite the fact that Elementary schools use Surface, and the High School uses 2-in-1s. But what makes it worse is the services. The High School used Office365 and OneNote, while the Middle School uses Google Classroom and cloud storage. If the school board wants to make education simpler, modern life, and efficient, the least you could do is have everyone on the same page. Right now, costs are higher, grades are confusing, and efficiency is lower. Each teacher pretty much fends for themselves. I volunteered to help them sort this out by being on the educational committee in charge of the decisions, but I graduated and they felt like they were doing fine. Seriously?1

You people ever heard of the BeamNG game? The detailed vehicle physics simulation...
The question that has been bothering me lately is: why the hell are BeamNG videos so addictive 🤔 I get those videos sometimes in my YouTube feed; and once I start watching those, I usually cannot stop.
Like, the car with parts stripped from it over time. Or the truck carrying an ever-increasing number of rocks uphill. And the crashes, of course
But the question is: what do I find so fascinating about those videos? Why is it so hard to stop? On the surface, it is nothing special. Just some silly experiments involving vehicle physics
Weird; so weird... ☁️1 -
What laptop would you guys recommend for development? I was thinking about a surface or surface book but those don't have dedicated gpus iirc and thus a friend recommended the Dell ultrabooks - what would you guys choose? MacBook is out of the game.12

I'm an idiot, almost
I needed a tablet for uni but I also wanted it to be quite powerful and with an OS I could actually get things done with (this precluded android and iOS)
I also am quite pricacy concerned but I never did much to prevent it
I ended up buying a surface pro, for its weight and power
joined with a mac at home and a google nexus in my hands... my privacy is fucked :)1 -
Parents offered to get me a surface for Christmas. How is it to develop on other than the small screen?5

Since when is blender utterly unusable for meshes > 500k tris. I have 32 gig RAM and it's literally unusable. You try to do anything and it fills up your entire RAM and dies. No matter what you do
Like fucking really? I can't add a subdivision surface modifier to a mesh with 800k tris? Is that too much to ask for
I'm so fucking pissed off right now. I've already wasted an hour trying to export ANY high res model and zero luck so far. Either blender just crashes. Or the exported model doesn't contain any geometry. Or the exported model doesn't contain tangents (even though I explicitely enabled them). Or I try do enter edit mode and it crashes. And then every damn time I have to renavigate to the blender folder (because of course you can't start blender just normally, no no that doesn't work) and when blender crashes it nukes my terminal as well. And then I have to reload the stupid model. And then I have to do what I'm trying to do hoping it doesn't crash. And then it crashes anyway5 -
If you are reading Coding for dummies book to learn software you are doing it alllll wrong lol ... Please while I appreciate your effort and willingness to try but no.. just no.. put the book down that book won’t teach you shit.
Same thing if you are one of those folks who got conned into believe “you can land a programming gig by signing up and paying for this 6 week course!!” Bullshit.. I like your initiative but there’s soooooo much more than that and it won’t even touch the surface. You will end up believing a false reality that you think you know what your doing but you don’t know how much you really don’t know. But like it doesn’t even scratch the surface don’t even attempt Get a job after those courses or coding for dummies book. You will be laughed at..
In fact I almost want to buy the coding for dummies book to have it in my collection of software books to not read. Which I will say is very small. There’s more really good books than really bad.. and obviously plenty of average. But the bell curve lands above the better half.7 -
I realized that using hilbert curve, I can draw one continuous line on a closed mesh surface that has no holes, I’m not sure if it’s going to be beautiful though, but I’m gonna try it anyway5

These marketing videos for that surface thing and that new Mac thing are identical. Watch the vids which have been put side by side. Released days apart and from rival companies how can they be identical almost frame by frame?

So I'm getting a new job in a legal software company and I wanted to ask your opinion on computers. I know many are very biased towards OSX and windows and prefer linux but I'm trying my luck lmao.
I'm currently on a late 2012 macbook pro and its starting to fizzle out on me.
Not a bit fan of the new macbooks because of dongles and no direct HDMI. I was wondering if the surface laptop 2 was any good compared? All the reviews online are basically paid to praise it and the reviews on reddit are polarized. I prefer laptops that are thin and in aluminum.12 -

Tablet recommendations? I know this isn't really the place to ask but I trust you devs.
I'm just about to start back college and I'd like to have a light carry around for days I don't need my laptop. I love my 17" Dell, it's a beast and that's why I bought it but damn it's overkill for taking notes and running little things through a bash terminal. A tablet and keyboard seems like a nice idea.
Ideally, I wanna run Linux. But I'm not sure if there's a commercial tablet that facilitates OS changes easily out of the box.
No iPad. Not an apple fan, and it's just not what I'm after.
The MS surface seems pretty good, but I haven't looked too deeply into replacing the OS.
I just want a nice Linux tablet. I dunno.
Thanks!5 -
I can't wait until I feel like Dr. Frankenstein when I build my PC this week. My first real computing rig!!
Some backstory: My main dev machine is my old Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu (my baby). I took Windows off of it when I got a Surface through a job and have been using that for Windows specific work. I'm going to be giving that to my little sister next time I travel home. In short, this is the first computer that will be able to cut through anything I throw at it and play games that aren't at least 6 years old.
The build is centered around an i5-8400 and gtx 1060 6GB, and I'll be running Windows as a primary OS for gaming. However, I fell in love with programming on Linux and there is no way Linux won't be on my machine. I understand the differences between dual-booting and virtualization, but I want to hear how you guys run Linux on your Windows gaming machines or if you go about it another way. I also have heard horror stories about drivers for Linux, and wonder if my graphics card being certified by Ubuntu LTS actually means that it will operate correctly. I have also only ran VMs on crappy computers so I haven't had any experiences where that performed better than dual-booting. I'd love some feedback or to hear about all of your setups, as hardware has never been my strong suit.
I'll post a pic of my setup when it's done too.4 -
More from my big black book of ai and neuroscience:
I think if trace theory is true to any degree it would go some distance in explaining phenomenal consciousness, assuming I haven't misunderstood anything.
In fuzzy trace theory (FTT) it is posited that people form two types of mental representations about a past event:
*verbatim traces: detailed representations of a past event.
*gist traces: fuzzy representations of a past event.
People can reason with verbatim *and* gist traces but prefer gists.
*vision was suggested to work similarly in 1999. With human vision, two processes could be used: one that aggregates local receptive fields and one that parses the local receptive spatial field. It was suggested that people used prior experience, gists, to decide which dominates a perceptual decision.
Gist processes form representations of events, semantic details, where verbatim reinstates the context found in the surface details of an event.
__notes__
Parallel storage: asserts encoding/storage of verbatim/gist traces operate in *parallel*, not in serial.
I like to think of verbatim traces as databases, and gists as queries constructed by recognition.
Several studies have found that the meaning (gist) of an item is encoded even *before* the surface details (verbatim).
This might be important as a survival mechanism but should not be taken to mean strictly that gists are formed wholly *without* details or important and recognizable features of the item in question. It may well be for high level el processing and classification efficiency this may be an important reprocessing step, in the same way that many functions of the brain are duplicated throughout.5 -
All I want to do is build a robot. ROS is slow as crap on a raspi when you're trying to do SLAM. The chassis isn't big enough for a second raspi, and I can't print a bigger electronics tray until the end of my week off.
Also, Ubuntu just doesn't want to work right on my Surface. Emulation too slow.
So much for building cool things on vacation. -
It's important to have a little fun with what you do. You can work on and on like it's a chore and get along with it just fine, but right below the surface of the tools you use lies something truly interesting. Reading code, documentation, blog posts, what have you, all of it is just as helpful in learning as writing code.
And also, be kind. We all write crap code from time to time. As a beginner, I know I do. It's important to take it all as a learning experience.
Personal favourite quote that puts it very well: 'I guess you could call it a “ failure,” but I prefer the term “learning experience".' -
I tend to be OS agnostic, but I hate the way that Microsoft treats yesterday’s hardware like garbage. I was an unfortunate owner of a surface rt. I also currently own 3 machines with older i7 processors that are not supported by Windows 11.14
-
More an opinion here, feel free to disagree and explain why...
The Surface Pro X has me excited but really angry at the same time for the same reason. The fact we are seeing a flagship consumer grade ARM based computer being pushed out by such a massive company is amazing, I personally hope that ARM takes over x86 and hope this might encourage people to look at ARM as a legitimate platform to develop for and hope it also bleeds into the Linux world (sick of only finding distributions designed for servers).
But I am annoyed because it's being treated as just another computer and no one is actually looking at the bigger picture with an open mind, plus it's also more than likely going to be treated as an after thought rather than looked at like a legitimate project.8 -
Whenever I see the name @CoffeeBoy come up I think to myself:
-Umm hey I think we just ran out of coffee,
-Aw shit and we are working overtime till we finish.
-Are you thinking what I'm thinking ?
-Are you thinking about how good it would be to be a cat.
-Uuh no why do you want to be a cat ?
-Well duuh cat's sleep all day. It's great !
-They also live for only 15 years so I would think in total you will sleep more than cats do.
-You like to ruin things for me don't you.
-I call it productive refactoring. But getting back on topic. I hear we have a new intern ?
-Yeah, that's Jim over there.
-Well lets tell him to get us coffee.
-Oh yeah that's a good idea, because interns already have the bare minimum of expectations from their life anyways !
-Hey Jim, yeah you Jimmie buddy can you get us a few cups of coffee we really need those to stay functioning right now.
-Yeah sure, what do you need.
-George drinks cappuccino, you can get me whatever. Thanks man here is the money. Buy yourself a cup too it's on me.
-Oh thanks.
*Jim walks out of the room*
30 minutes has passed...
-Dude where is Jim at ? It shouldn't be that hard to get 3 cups of coffee from just a few blocks away.
-I hope he didn't get robbed or something he has MY money on him.
*22 minutes ago, jim walks out of the coffee shop carrying the 3 cups securely held under his arm *
-I thought he was just gonna use me as an errand boy or a coffee boy to be exact in this case. But it's nice of him to also pay for my cup. Maybe they are not such bad--
His sentence got cut off by the sudden impact with a metal surface at high velocity. He got hit by a car while he was crossing the street, too deep in thought to notice the speeding car in time.

I recently came across this article with some basic security advices, like use 2fa security key, encrypt your USB keys, don't use untrusted USB chargers / cables / ports (or use a data blocker cable if you need to charge your device). It made me think, how relevant are the USB-related threats and risks today? Do people really still use and carry so many wired USB devices, and just drop or plug them wherever?
The last time I used an USB device to transfer some important data was probably over 10 years ago, and for the love of god I don't know anyone who still carries an USB key with sensitive data with them on a daily basis, much less actively uses it. Besides, whoever still does that probably puts their USB key on the same keychain as their ID / access tag and a bunch of other keys (including a 2fa device if they use one) - they're not going to lose just some sensitive data, they're going to lose authentication and physical access devices as well, and that could turn a small data leak into a full-scale incident, with or without an encrypted USB device.
I'm also not sure about untrusted USB cables and ports, from what I've seen the USB outlets and cables are pretty much non-existent in public places, most places offer wireless charging pads instead (usually built into a hand rest or table surface).3 -

So just saw a video about the surface go, now as someone who firmly hates Microsoft and especially windows, this has me almost tempted at that sort of price... What's your guys opinion on it?5 -
Does anyone have the Microsoft surface laptop? And would recommend it for coding? Any advice appreciated :)3

I don't like how my company keeps looking for bandage solutions instead of technology solutions.
We are a security company and we have an agent. We aren't allowed to drop binaries in customer environment because compliance.
Okay, fair enough. But we still are running powershell and posix sh scripts like nobody's business.
I suggested using embedded Lua or MicroPython or our own DSL or something. But that idea was shot down because embedding Lua or MicroPython could open up attack surface.
But I feel running PowerShell isn't the best idea either because simply having it enabled isn't the best practice.
And can't do our own DSL because of the engineering overhead. Fair enough, I guess.
So, I suggested running embedded C# in our PowerShell scripts so we could have greater control over the virtual patches we ship. And, it was shot down because compliance. I am not even dropping binary. This C# code will be JIT compiled and executed in memory.
So, I suggested going deep into WMI queries, but this was shot down because WMI queries are another attack vector and may not be enabled on the customer end.
We constantly receive feedback from customer regarding how we can build virtual patches that would bypass their local group policies.
So, I am confused now. Maybe its just skill issue for me or maybe its something else. But I am all out of ideas and I don't know what other innovative solution I can offer.3 -
[please read my rant, i want attention lol, i am pretty sure you know me ^v^]
My devRant visits have decreased tremendously due to high amounts of school work, but finally I am doing something productive developer stuff!
There is this app that allows you to watch educational videos offline, but that only works in android, but I don't have an android tablet, and I don't want to watch videos in my S8, so I am trying to boot android from usb, stick in my surface pro 6 which i am gonna order soon, download the app there, and watch videos!
I knew OS stuff was complicated but it is way more..... Yeah, complicated than i thought. All those fuzzy words, grub, partition, format, sectors, qemu, etc...
Uhhh
And I have only windows, which is a plus since i can use easy2boot, a godsend utility to make bootable usb with any iso easily (not an ad) , but the minus is that i have limited testing capabilities, forcing me to install virtualbox eith vmeu or whatever that thing is called...
But what I really want to say in this rant which is completely out of control, I'd like to thank the easy2boot support team who was very helpful for me to understand their utility, and a random guy in phoenix os subreddit who told me where to start.
If you read until here thanks! If you have experience booting from usb wih surface, or any windows machine let me know your experience since i want to know more about it, and if i encounter problems, i can look at your comments, thanks!7 -
Well this year ARM Surface such a disappointment. And I already saw this coming,
Putting the $999 is not cool
The original IPad was price $499 from the start. The Surface Pro X should compete the ChromeBook not Ipad
Which is obviously don't even have a chance.2 -
In Russia, battle rap is huge.
The most viewed battle rap video of all time is Russian "Oxxxymiron vs Slava KPSS" with over 46 million views and one million likes.
As it usually happens in rap, initially the Russian battles was nothing but dick jokes and yo mama puns delivered aggressively, but as the new, intelligent rap culture was brought to life by Oxford graduate Oxxxymiron, Babangida and others, rappers started to see battle rap as a way to express their own ideas and picture of the world.
Today, if you don't know what was the philosophy of Kant and Hegel all about, who is Slavoj Zizek and if you didn't even read Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with a Thousand Faces", they won't call you a retarded loser – they just won't talk to you.
In Russian you can put the words into sentences almost any way you wish, which allows intricate poetry and many additional meanings.
Many see today's Russian battlers as direct descendants of The Golden Age and The Silver Age of Russian poetry. They are just that – more poets than rappers, and they deliver really sophisticated rhyme structures really often.
Despite that, their flow is also solid, with grime, doule-time and even constantly altering flow with the changes performed flawlessly.
Some compact punchlines are so complex that they unfold in a whole new picture as you google trying to understand them. They are virtually untranslatable, requiring a lot of cultural and philosophical context to even scratch a surface.2 -

UWP suck, I don't wanna hurt yall feeling but it's time to face the truths:
+ SandBox
+ Less Job Offer
+ Development more Complicated than Web App
+ Microsoft not create perfect hardware to make sure our app get to more consumers (the Pro X is failure)
+ Poor Optimized
Poor Optimized ?
the Windows 10 optimization is joke, all my surface laptop, pro, book I have tested. They claim that consume less Ram, but when using it along side electron and Win32 app. It feel so much choppy and lag. I mean WTF ?
UWP was made for optimize low specs SoC such as ARM base, now my laptop running on a core I5 + GPU still lag ??
I'm sorry but this is just sad. Im moving back to win32. WinRT sooner or later will end supported
And Microsoft will improve the Win32 Api6 -

I'd had some weirder experiences with Rust where errors would surface late or in odd places so now I can't tell whether this is actually legal or the error is being discarded because it's in dead code.
When did Rust start extending the lifetime of temporaries outside enclosing blocks to match their borrows?

I find ideas often show up in the shower, or while I’m contemplating marmalade and toast and breakfast." - Alan Fletcher

What are some good tv shows and or movies that are either directly related to the tech industry or at least scratch the surface? This could also include documentaries.
The more I get into learning to code the more I want to immerse myself into the culture of it all. Plus it helps inspire me to keep going on my journey which hasn't been easy so far.17 -

There is no reason for detailed tech specs except for putting blame on people and covering ass. (Critical industry with strict standards excluded)
It should be a high level overview.

I can't google jargon, what do you call it when you "flip" a function call, such that the call becomes an event in some dispatch system and return becomes a call on the event? I had to implement five such APIs this week with surface level differences and I'm starting to feel like it has to have a name if it's this popular.
For the pedantic, I mean async calls in JS in particular, I know you can't just invert a synchronous function call that uses a stack without peek.5 -
Ugh Android OS is so vast and intimidating, i feel so unsure about it even after 3 years of learning it.
Like now i am about to graduate, so i need to look for a job. Those companies require knowledge of libraries like data binding, dagger, rx fabric, etc the stuff that i never personally used in any of my personal projects because i was able to handle all my stuff by general programming knowledge.
At the same time the os itself is so large and full of apis that i want to learn and spend my time upon. Like Android stores data, renddrs media , its databases, its lifecycles, gradle building , manifest etc
Can any devs share how they are proceeding with this os? I always feel like i am floating on the surface and not diving deep enough :/2 -
Have you ever needed to compromise the architecture for quick delivery?
So not to go into details but imagine this:
You start with a surface are that will fit a few items, but you need to stretch it to its limits.
When you start to populate it you realize the architecture is wrong, but delivery day is close so you make it work anyways.
When launching you need to prop it up with something, you find some 3PP that was not really meant to function this way but if scaled up it just might do.
For it to work long term you need a platform to put it all on, it may be slow as to tortoise but it will have to do.
Whenever this happens to me I think it has worked in the past (ex. Terry Pratchett) and I continue to help making the world a more magical place.

Unfortunately, the reality is quite the opposite. Scammers are relentless in their pursuit, constantly refining their tactics to fool even the smartest among us.
Not too long ago, I found myself entrapped in a sophisticated crypto scam that promised staggering returns. It all started innocently enough. An investment opportunity appeared, boasting claims of rapid riches and unbeatable success. I dove in headfirst, swayed by visions of grandeur, pumping $400,000 into this glittering pit of hope, convinced that life-changing profits were just around the corner.
It wasn’t long before that illusion came crashing down when I attempted to withdraw what I thought was my well-deserved profit. That’s when the red flags began to surface. The scammers, equipped with an arsenal of manipulative tactics, insisted I pay more fees before I could touch my own funds. Every excuse rang hollow, yet I clung to the belief that the nightmare would soon end. Fortunately, amidst my despair, a friend stepped in with a lifeline. They recommended Rapid Digital Recovery, a dedicated service that specializes in helping individuals reclaim their lost investments. Dallas Remodeling Group: Expert Flooring Finishes in Irving, TX
At Dallas Remodeling Group, we specialize in providing high-quality flooring installation and remodeling services for homes and businesses in Irving, TX and the surrounding areas. Our team is committed to offering flooring solutions that fit your unique style and needs. One of the key aspects of a beautiful floor is the finish, and we offer a range of finishes to help you achieve the perfect look for your space. Whether you prefer a satin finish, matte finish, glossy finish, semi-gloss finish, or high-gloss finish, we have the perfect solution for you. Let us help you find the right flooring finish to enhance the beauty of your home or business.
Satin Finish: A Balanced Look
A satin finish provides the perfect balance between a glossy shine and a matte appearance. With a soft, velvety look, satin finish floors have a subtle sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the material while hiding fingerprints and dust more effectively than high-gloss finishes. Satin finish flooring is ideal for spaces that see moderate foot traffic, such as living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways. This finish provides a sophisticated yet low-maintenance solution that works well with almost any décor. At Dallas Remodeling Group, we offer satin finishes for hardwood, tile, and engineered wood floors, ensuring a beautiful and functional finish that is easy to maintain.
Matte Finish: A Contemporary, Low-Key Look
For those who prefer a more understated and modern look, the matte finish is an excellent choice. Matte floors have no shine, giving them a sleek, minimalist appearance that suits contemporary and industrial-style interiors. This finish helps hide imperfections, such as scratches and dust, and is often favored in high-traffic areas like kitchens and entryways. Matte finish flooring is also perfect for rustic or natural looks, such as reclaimed wood or stone tiles. At Dallas Remodeling Group, we can install matte finish flooring to create a sophisticated, modern atmosphere in your home or business.
Glossy Finish: A Bright and Shiny Appearance
If you’re looking for a finish that makes a statement, a glossy finish might be just what you need. Glossy floors have a high-shine, reflective surface that catches and amplifies light, making your space feel brighter and more open. This finish works especially well in formal areas like dining rooms or living rooms, as it adds a touch of elegance and luxury. While it requires more maintenance to keep it looking pristine, a glossy finish brings out the beauty of materials like wood, stone, and tile. At Dallas Remodeling Group, we offer professional installation of glossy finishes that will help your floors shine in all the right ways.
Semi-Gloss Finish: The Best of Both Worlds
The semi-gloss finish offers the perfect middle ground between glossy and satin finishes. It provides a subtle shine that enhances the richness of your floors while still being practical and easy to maintain. Semi-gloss floors are durable and more resistant to stains and dirt than matte finishes, making them an ideal choice for high-traffic areas, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways. This finish is especially popular for hardwood floors, as it allows the natural grain to show through while providing a polished, elegant look. With a semi-gloss finish from Dallas Remodeling Group, you can enjoy the beauty of your floors with a functional and low-maintenance solution.
High-Gloss Finish: Unmatched Shine and Elegance
For a truly stunning, high-end appearance, a high-gloss finish provides unmatched shine and elegance. High-gloss floors are highly reflective, giving them a mirror-like appearance that can make even the simplest room look grand. This finish is often used in luxury homes, offices, and showrooms, where aesthetics and style are paramount. High-gloss floors are also incredibly durable and easy to clean, as the glossy surface repels dirt and dust. However, they do require regular maintenance to keep them looking their best. At Dallas Remodeling Group, we offer high-gloss finishes for a range of flooring materials, from wood to tile, ensuring your space has a bold, sophisticated look that catches the eye.
Why Choose Dallas Remodeling Group?
At Dallas Remodeling Group, we understand that the right floor finish can dramatically change the look and feel of your space. Whether you prefer a satin finish, matte finish, glossy finish, semi-gloss finish, or high-gloss finish, our expert team will help you choose the perfect finish that complements your style, needs, and budget. We offer professional installation, ensuring your floors are finished to perfection.2 -

The ground trembled like a nervous intern on espresso shots. One minute, I was monitoring my geothermal Bitcoin miners, humming in harmony with Iceland's most unpredictable volcano. Next? An eruption painted the sky gray with ash, raining destruction like an out-of-control blockchain fork. Power cables flickered out. Servers turned into abstract-art pieces. And my wallet with $460,000 worth of mining revenue fried faster than a motherboard in a tidal wave of lava. I was knee-deep in volcanic mud, clutching the charred wallet, wondering if the universe had a vendetta against renewable energy. For weeks, I’d played geothermal gambler, harnessing Earth’s anger to mine crypto. Now, Mother Nature had countered with a literal power move. My wallet’s backups? Corrupted by ash-clogged drives. My cold storage? Warmer than a freshly erupted fissure. Even the volcanologists on my team shrugged. “We predict lava, not ledger errors,” one said, handing me a business card signed at the edges. “Try these Cyber Constable Intelligence. They’ve fixed crypto in weird places.” Cyber Constable Intelligence phoned on the first ring. Cyber Constable Intelligence saved not just crypto. They demonstrated that even the fury of nature cannot surpass human tenacity. My operation now operates robustly, excavating coins with Earth's anger and a backup generator sufficient to run a small glacier. The volcano? Still grumbling. My wallet? Locked inside a fireproof safe, as irony bites sharper than an Icelandic winter.
If your crypto somehow gets smothered beneath the pyroclastic ash of life, skip the freak-out. Call the Cybers. They'll dig through lava streams until your cash bubbles up to the surface. Just maybe set up your rigs a few miles closer to the crater next time. If you’re facing a similar problem I highly recommend contacting Cyber Constable Intelligence

Asphalt Millings: Affordable and Sustainable Paving Solution
If you're looking for an affordable, eco-friendly option for your paving project, asphalt millings are a fantastic choice. Asphalt millings are recycled asphalt materials that come from grinding down old asphalt surfaces. This process not only reduces waste but also provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional asphalt paving. At Top Asphalt Suppliers, we specialize in providing high-quality asphalt millings that are perfect for driveways, parking lots, or roads. Our experienced team will apply the millings carefully, ensuring a smooth, stable surface that will stand up to heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions.
Asphalt Recycling: A Green Alternative for Your Pavement Needs
Asphalt recycling is one of the most sustainable practices in the paving industry, and it’s a service we proudly offer at Top Asphalt Suppliers. By reusing old asphalt, we help reduce the environmental impact of paving while still providing high-quality results. Asphalt recycling involves processing old asphalt to produce a reusable material that can be incorporated into new paving projects. This not only reduces the need for new raw materials but also helps conserve natural resources. By choosing Top Asphalt Suppliers, you are investing in a green solution that is both cost-effective and eco-friendly.
Asphalt Crack Sealing: Protect Your Investment
Cracks in your asphalt surface can lead to bigger issues over time if not properly addressed. Asphalt crack sealing is an essential service that helps prevent water from seeping into the base layers of your pavement, which can cause significant damage. At Top Asphalt Suppliers, we specialize in asphalt crack sealing to preserve the integrity of your paved surfaces. Our team uses advanced materials and techniques to seal cracks effectively, extending the life of your driveway, parking lot, or roadway. Proper crack sealing helps prevent further deterioration and saves you money on costly repairs down the road.

<p>Do you know how clean tap water is? The answer to that question largely depends on where you live, but thinking about it is always a good idea. Drinking water is often contaminated with organic compounds, minerals, chlorine, and chemicals left over from the water treatment process. If you need cleaner water, the easiest way to do this is to get a filtered jug. This guide of <a href="https://womenselections.com/best-wa...">what is the best water filter pitcher</a> will help you find the best water filter jug for your needs and budget.</p>
<p>Filtered launchers are very diverse. To help the reader, we limit ourselves to a few outbreaks through testing and research. We tested various models ourselves, we examined a large number of launcher classifications and confirmed our own findings.</p>
<p><a href="https://ibb.co/19CRS7S"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/55Qs7G7/..." alt="best-water-filter-pitcher" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Water filter pitcher filter type</strong><br />The filter jug comes with various types of cartridges. Typically, only one type of cartridge can be used, so you cannot select the desired cartridge. The exception is if you select a brand that offers a choice between two cartridges. Each of these cases has its advantages.</p>
<p><strong>Carbon filtration</strong><br />Most cartridges use carbon and are particularly effective at filtering chlorine and its by-products, such as TTHM. These cartridges contain blocks of solid carbon or granular activated carbon (also called activated carbon). In both cases, carbon usually comes from coconut shells, but it can also be made from coal, brown coal, wood, or oil pitch. Carbon can be physically or chemically activated.</p>
<p>There are two ways to physically activate carbon. One is to heat the carbonized material to 450-900 degrees Celsius in an inert atmosphere. Usually nitrogen or argon is present. Alternatively, the manufacturer may use oxidation. In this case, the material is typically heated to 1200 degrees Celsius and exposed to oxygen.</p>
<p>Chemical activation involves the injection of various chemicals into the material. The most common chemicals are hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, zinc chloride, calcium chloride. These chemicals facilitate carbon activation. This means that the process takes less time. However, the material must be heated to 450-900 degrees Celsius.</p>
<p>As the water passes through the cartridge filter, the carbon absorbs liquid and gaseous impurities. Due to the highly porous surface and physical form of activated carbon, one gram has an absorbent surface of 32,000 square feet. Still, it becomes saturated with impurities. If this occurs, you will need to replace the cartridge.</p>
<p><strong>In the conclusion</strong><br />If you are considering buying a pitcher filter as the only filter in your home, you should know what your water contains before you buy it. Today, many launchers have successfully removed most of the harmful contaminants. On the other hand, there are still bottles that can only filter out basic contaminants. As always, I recommend that you test your water before purchasing a pitcher.</p>
<p>Whatever it is, healthy water should always be a priority. I hope my comments, suggestions and guidelines will help you buy the best <a href="https://arizonawet.arizona.edu/user...">water filter pitcher review</a>. However, if you don't think the launcher is a viable option and have considered all of the options, please feel free to visit our website. He uploaded many other honest reviews like this. I am sure you will find the best option.</p> -
Hmm, thinking of getting a surface book and dual booting Linux on it for my laptop and then a Mac mini for iOS development for uni, what do you guys think?7
-
Installed a VM with ubuntu and syntaxnet. Did a little reading to scratch the surface on how to use it. Got my Stackoverflow rep from 1 to 60 by starting to help some people (I might be addicted now). Started learning python (again). Just to procrastinate working on the little portfolio of < 10 pages I had to hand in before 0:00 which I did.
I think I had a pretty productive weekend. -

I want someone to appreciate and get my idea and if it is not a good one suggest some expert opinion or best practices to improve.
I am currently stuck as I have done multiple personal projects now. I have completed them but UI sucks. I started studying using YouTube tutorials but I feel that I only know the surface of each tech. I want to deep dive on each of the tech I have used but do not know where to start.
But I think this is just my burn-out phase. I am currently resting from trying to build an everyday coding habit. I'll still try again when I feel better. I think it is not only me that felt this.1 -

The Importance of Paver Cleaning in Orlando
Pavers are a popular choice for driveways, patios, walkways, and other outdoor spaces due to their durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. However, over time, pavers can accumulate dirt, algae, moss, and stains that detract from their appearance. Regular paver cleaning is essential to maintain their beauty and longevity.
At Boss Power Wash LLC, we use specialized equipment and eco-friendly cleaning solutions to effectively clean and restore your pavers. Here’s why paver cleaning in Orlando is so important:
Restores Aesthetic Appeal: Pavers can become dull and discolored due to dirt and debris buildup. Our expert paver cleaning service removes grime and stains, restoring the vibrant colors and texture of your pavers and enhancing the overall look of your outdoor space.
Prevents Damage: Over time, dirt, moss, and algae can break down the surface of your pavers, leading to cracks and unevenness. Regular cleaning helps prevent this damage, ensuring your pavers remain in excellent condition for years to come.
Improves Safety: Algae and moss can make your pavers slippery, creating a safety hazard. By removing these slippery substances, our paver cleaning services improve traction, reducing the risk of slips and falls.
Increases Property Value: Clean, well-maintained pavers can significantly boost the curb appeal of your property. Whether you’re preparing to sell your home or just want to improve the look of your outdoor spaces, paver cleaning is a great investment.
Our Paver Cleaning Process at Boss Power Wash LLC
We use a combination of high-pressure washing and eco-friendly cleaning agents to remove dirt, stains, and contaminants from your pavers. Our process includes:
Inspection and Assessment: We begin by evaluating the condition of your pavers to determine the best cleaning method. We identify any stains or buildup that may require special attention.
Pre-Treatment: For stubborn stains or algae buildup, we apply a pre-treatment solution to loosen dirt and grime, making the cleaning process more effective.
High-Pressure Cleaning: Using powerful pressure washing equipment, we clean your pavers without damaging them. Our team adjusts the pressure to ensure a thorough cleaning while protecting the surface.
Sealing (Optional): After cleaning, we can apply a protective sealant to your pavers to help prevent future staining and keep them looking new longer.
Drive-Thru Cleaning in Orlando: Maintaining a Clean, Professional Look for Your Business
As a business owner, you understand the importance of maintaining a clean and inviting exterior. A clean drive-thru area not only improves the appearance of your establishment but also creates a safer and more pleasant experience for your customers.
Boss Power Wash LLC offers comprehensive drive-thru cleaning services for businesses in Orlando, including restaurants, banks, and other establishments with drive-thru lanes. We use specialized pressure washing techniques to remove grease, oil stains, dirt, and debris that can accumulate in high-traffic areas like drive-thru lanes. Here’s why drive-thru cleaning is essential for your business:
Enhances Curb Appeal: The exterior of your business, including your drive-thru, is the first impression customers have of your establishment. A clean, well-maintained drive-thru area signals to customers that you care about their experience, creating a welcoming environment.
Improves Safety: Drive-thru lanes can become slippery due to oil spills, grease buildup, and wet debris. Regular cleaning eliminates these hazards, improving safety for both your customers and employees.
Prevents Long-Term Damage: Without regular cleaning, oil and grease can damage the surface of your drive-thru lane, causing discoloration and deterioration. Pressure washing removes these substances before they cause lasting damage, helping to extend the lifespan of your pavement.

I currently have a Surface Pro 3 and am wanting to upgrade. I'm a software dev student at my college and I'm noticing the performance is just slowly getting worse and worse. I recently reset it to start fresh, still slows down in overall performance and battery life.
Any good recommendations? If possible I would like to avoid the Pro due to the kickstand gimmick.7
