Reportedly, during the production process of loads of micro(sun?) motherboards, a tiny backdoor chip was placed (made to look like another component) onto the fucker, allowing remote code injection pretty much (correct me if I'm wrong).
When it happened: no fucking clue. -
bahua128016yYeah, SMC is ubiquitous. They are absolutely everywhere. You would be hard-put to find a major company whose infrastructure doesn't use any SMC hardware.

According to news, about 30 big corporations have servers with those chips.
Apple and Amazon found the chips on their own and probably took necessary measures (hopefully). So saying they got hacked is not totally wrong.

I understand the muggles on Facebook saying it was Apple and Amazon that were hacked, but here on devrant where people know WTF is up, I'm still not seeing people say where the hack actually took place, and what makes the news truly terrifying: SMC.
