Riight... One more reason to NOT to switch to an electric stove then..
Efficiency and ecologics aside, induction and gas ones at least make some noise. Then again, if suction is on that noise might be too quiet.. -

This is the backwater of Portugal, we don't have those.
It would be pointless anyway since pretty much 90% of houses, including mine, use chimneys in winter. -
CoreFusionX353024hNow that I could do a better assessment, seems I will only have to replace the extractor, laundry every piece of cloth in the house since it stinks, and probably repaint the kitchen.

D-4got10-01148521hCertainly a bad way to wake up.
Good thing nothing really got damaged, from what I could read. -
kamen680320hGlad you're fine.
I think it's good to make habits to check that everything is turned off the last time you're in the kitchen for the day. I for example shut off the propane valve at the bottle even if the stove itself will cut off the flow when no flame is present. -
kiki3761020h@netikras nah. you can fuck up big time using anything that involves passing high energy across low areas.
Gas stoves are bad because the gas is purchased from dictators, and that gas stove is the only stove that can blow your house up. Not burn it down, but literally blow up.
Induction ones seem to be the best nowadays -
netikras3495919h@kiki i like firewood stoves though.. They can still kill you, but at least you won't feel any discomfort while they do.. 😁

retoor887913h@CoreFusionX I also don't have a smoke alarm, not needed in such a smol chalet. You'll choke before that thing is activated. But by law, we are actually required. But hey, it's a rental! :)

Yeah, after the electrician came in and fixed the broken line, everything but the extractor (as expected) works fine, so only a pan to grieve XD.
Even on a Saturday, they came in to fix everything in 10 mins, and on Monday they'll bring the new extractor.
Also my landlord said not to worry because insurance will take care of everything, so all good.
They'll also repaint the kitchen roof.
I still came back to Spain for the weekend to get clothes because everything I have smells like a fucking barbecue now, even the bed.
Did the laundry, set it to dry and came back. Hopefully on Monday everything will be as good as new. -

Yeah, a smoke detector, especially in a mostly wooden house like mine probably will not make much difference.
I still got today a portable fire extinguisher, which I have at my house in Spain, but didn't get one in Portugal dunno why.
Hereby I recommend everyone to get one of those, they can save your fucking life. -
retoor88792h@CoreFusionX yeah got it, my house in Spain has a swimming pool BTW. In the Netherlands, i would trade my fire extinguisher for decent internet. Living on a 4g connection. It works terrible since the park is very full in the summer with people looking like @Lensflare and speaking like @ranchonyx. They invented Netflix and are doing nothing else thus the 4g internet is slow as fuck.

my terrible former roommate kept setting the kettle on the stove but forgetting. one time all the water had evaporated and it had burst into flames
come to think of it the fire alarm didn't go off then either. and we have a super heavy duty fancy one that we can't even take out. such useless annoying things frankly. the thing goes off all the time probably due to humidity, not once when something is actually burning. we can't even replace it. it's stuck to the electrical grid or something through some weird emergency shit. can't even take out the damned batteries to make it shut up when it misfires. and it blares like 5 storeys away. fucking nightmare
I hate society
Shit.
Thought I had turned off the stove after making dinner but seems it stayed on.
Thankfully the kitchen automatically turns off after a set time, so only the pan and a couple nearby things were lost.
Still, seems some electric wire in the extractor got wrecked because the kitchen line breaker is down and won't go up.
Waking up to your house full of smoke really sends you into panic mode...
