@Gaveuxifort lol no it's not.
I'd rather watch paint dry than do math for "fun".
And I'm slowly starting to question the sanity of people who do it for fun
Like I can think of at least a dozen things I'd rather do instead of math, and one of them is absolutely nothing lol
@irene I'm ready when you are 😘😂 -
@irene I mean since I was like 6 I could determine the change I was supposed to get back before the cashier but that's not impressive or anything. Used to be fun but now I don't give a shit
-
@irene I can do basic math in my head. It's not too bad. Nothing much harder that add, subtract, (a little) division & multiplication.
Uhhh some exponents just depends. But anything other than that is painful.
@Gaveuxifort I'm in my 6th college level math class. Math fucking sucks and there's not shit about it that I'll ever find fun. -
Lol pretty sure we're from different systems as I don't know what your 6th level mean. But as a theoretical physicist I can tell you so many cool stuffs in maths that a "sane" person wouldn't dare to imagine lol
-
@Gaveuxifort I just meant 6 different college math class. (I took some in high school.) Poorly worded sentence, so that's my bad
-
@noms89 Actually you can.
Because I hate it. A fucking lot.
I have for the last 4 years or so. It blew everyone's mind that I *was* a CS major that hated math. But hey. It was a fun run while it lasted. -
noms898606y@Stuxnet one cannot survive in CS without math..its the base dude..
Try setup ur relationship with math .. will surely help you -
@bugreport Simply calculating 0^0 doesn't make any sense, and there is no solution.
If you get 0^0 as limes for a function, you can calculate a number - maybe one, but it could be any other value as well, depending on the function. -
@bugreport how is that a question?
2^3 = 8
2^2 = 4
2^1 = 2
2^0 = x
2^-1= 0.5
2^-2= 0.25
What is x? I hope you see the logic -
taglia5716y@Codex404 wrong. 0^0 is undefined.
0^0 = 0^(1-1)
By applying power rules (I don't know how they are called in english)
a^(x-y) = a^x / a^y
which, applied to this situation means:
0^(1-1) = 0^1 / 0^1 = 0 / 0
... aaand it is undefined. -
It's probable that you hate pure mathematics because it's just too fucking abstract. Then I totally agree with you. Fuck it.
-
Not sure if it's intentional or a pun but one thing definitely sounds right about the you said.
-
Math is a helper of understanding the world around you. Yes, it may be very abstract, but it is the most important brick in science.
Math is beautiful. ♥️
I think your math teachers were either fucking stupid or really bad at teaching...
Your rant's ++ over time is defined by the function p(t).
t is time.
The differential equation defines my estimated change of your ++ count:
p' + 1/C²*p = 1 + 1/C
Which has the general solution:
p(t) = C - C*e^(-t/C²)
With the initial value problem p(0) = 0 and an estimated limit of 30 we can find the value for C = 30. -
dmonkey23316yEvery time someone says something bad about math, a kitty in the world dies by building a todo app by himself.
Seriously, math is harmony... -
7Raiden8786y0^0 per se is just 1. But if both zeros come from two limits of some functions that tend to 0 then it's undetermined!
-
7Raiden8786y@taglia it's because it cannot assume otherwise! Like, you can also input \infty. But what kind of infinity? :)
EDIT: Similarly, 1^\infty *might* be undetermined. But I challenge you to write 1*1*1... on the calculator :) -
taglia5716y@7Raiden "0^0" it is undefined because IT IS undefined, not because "the calculator can't compute it".
When I say "0^0", I'm not giving any detail if the 0 comes from a limit or not, or which limit.
That's why it is undefined.
And that's why saying "0^0 per se is 1" is wrong. -
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
"In algebra, combinatorics, or set theory, the generally agreed upon value is 0^0 = 1, whereas in mathematical analysis, the expression is generally left undefined." -
@taglia in most areas of maths it is defined as 1. There are some areas in which it is indeed undefined, but more often than not 1 is the correct answer. That is why almost every calculator will give 1 as answer.
-
@irene You can't just say that.
I mean you don't just have 0^0 in front of you on the paper, when solving a mathematical problem. It's in some kind of formula and depending on that and limits you do what you can.
(That's what my friend, a mathematician, said, and what I think of it as well) -
@irene And just for the sake of it: Mathematics is not even mainly about numbers. It's more about concepts, relations, patterns, limits, et cetera.
If you have some kind of formula which has 0^0 as the final result, it would seem a rather strange one and even, I bet the plot would be more interesting to analyze and would tell you more that the "final result". -
7Raiden8786y@PonySlaystation Exactly. When I say "per se" I mean that:
std::pow(0, 0) = 1;
std::pow(1.0, std::numeric_limits<double>::max()) = 1;
But mathematically, only if they come as a result of a function/expression/anything, then it's undefined!
Actually, 0^0=1 it's a convention in measure theory and 0*\infty=0, so, again, it depends on the use case! -
7Raiden8786y@irene Yes exactly, but (1+1/n)^n is not :) Again, my point being that if the "input" comes from a limit then it might be undetermined, otherwise it's known!
-
taglia5716y@7Raiden there are functions/languages that gives 1, and others that give undefined.
From the already cited Wikipedia page:
"the result is required to be 1 because this value is more useful than NaN for significant applications"
The fact that "1 is the agreed value" says that "there is not a value, but for convenience/ease, 1 is also good".
Well, I'll stay with my opinion, which is wrong and right at the same time. ^^
@PonySlaystation of course it is something that doesn't pop out in a paper (or rarely does). And as in the most cases, the final result isn't important, but how you get it is. I had the luck to discuss with a Math Ph.D. once, he showed me a new world 😱 -
Math is fucking pain. Fuck Archimedes. The fuck does Algebra exist for? To make student fucking continuously suffer in pain. All we need to know is how to count, add, minus, multiply and divide. We don't give a fuck about math
-
LeonMusk2903yHoly crap the elitism in this is ridiculous. The man CAN hate math idgaf if its apart of the world its annoying at times and if you can't picture that then get your head out of your own anus for 2 mins.
I've got one thing to say:
Fuck. Math.
That's all.
