"AI is missing one of its important parts - intelligence"

Granted, it does.. AI is inherently stupid, hence why it'll never become a Terminator or something crazy like that. Or why AGI or even ASI will never really become feasible. The very architecture of an AI is that of a glorified computer program for data analysis that's just got a feedback loop with it, and a (hopefully) constant data stream. But is it really "intelligent" like a human being, with thoughts and desires of its own? Not in the slightest.

Whenever I read something about "AI", I get the urge to throw something heavy into my monitor.

People, nobody is working on or with an "AI".

What you are talking about is a "VI". An AI is an artificial intelligence. Something that has self awareness and might pass the Turing test.

A "Virtual intelligence" is all we can do today. A program that is designed to answer questions (by human or machine) in a seemingly intelligent way.

And no, that is not a matter of wording taste. Calling these things "AI" is marketing bullshit. Nothing more.

@Condor But how is a clever computer with feedback loop different from us humans?

@Mitiko Feelings, desires, presence of mind, things like that.. if humans and AI's were really the same thing, either the AI would be something that can be described as a person, or humans would be nothing but robots with no will of their own.

@Mitiko There is another big thing: Understanding concepts.

Example: How do you know that a tree of a kind you have never seen before is a tree? Because you have a conceptual understanding of trees.
The best computers can do is pattern matching. So a tree, which can not be matched, as it was never seen before, is not a tree for the computer, but something unknown.

@Yamakuzure See, I think we humans all went through this feeling of the unknown, but we were teached to recognize trees. We were too young to remember this feeling, but it was there. I believe we can improve on the memory and use the same teaching methods (a lot of linear algebra and back-propagation) to emulate the human brain as much as possible. And then we'll get something conscious

@Condor Firstly, I believe we do live in a simulation. Secondly, maybe AI would become smarter and that wouldn't be just more knowledge of the world and the surroundings, but also emotionally smart
