Assuming mental laziness is not something I consider necessary, as some people have never allocated any of their limited mental bandwidth to the more substantial areas of knowledge before, and being an introductory gateway might be helpful.

Especially if it's someone I don't know well, I try to avoid assuming how the other person is approaching their question, as there are almost always multiple possible reasons why they ask something.

@Hubot-0x58 I agree that self learning is to be encouraged. Not everyone is equipped for that, though, and might need help learning how to do that. Everyone is different, and might not know how to do what you think is normal.
