Which laptop do you use?

Surface Pro 4
It's is realy good if you need a desktop you can easily take with you.
But it is a pain in the ass to install linux on it because Firmware Updates can only be installed with Windows.

I am confused if I should buy a MacBook Pro

@tomtom2770 it's in my budget. I want to use it for coding. I use Linux, macos is close enough I guess. will also use a vm for Windows for a few apps which don't run on Linux or Unix. So processor should be good.

@anon404 well, in this case, I guess it depends on your personal preferences.

I think a MacBook Pro has a nice build quality and design. macOS also looks good and you don't need to configure that much on your own.

On the other hand, you can probably get more computing power for the amount of money you will pay for a decent MacBook.

@anon404 I will probably go for an XPS 13 as my next laptop.

It has an i7-8550U, 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD and it costs around 2100€.

@tomtom2770 they even have an developer edition with Ubuntu already set up

@anon404 yeah and you can save some money because you don't need to pay for a windows license.

I recently gave my gaming laptop (Dell Inspiron 7567, super awesome) to my brother, so otherwise making do with an old HP ProBook 440G2 with a Core i5 4210U and 16 GB of RAM (long story) and a Samsung EVO 860 SSD. It works really well.

I recently brought a hp omen 15 (2018 edition). I don't take it to work so the gamer look is fine.

Macbook Pro 2018 w/ TouchBar (because they only updated models with the touchbar)

ASUS UX330UAK with i7, 8GB, 512GB but should have gone with 16GB because 8GB is not enough for Android Studio

Thinkpad x1 and t470 are both great (I like the 470 better, my x1 is 1st gen, so it has the sharp edges on the front and the touchpad ain't great)

I think macbook is the best laptop for developers like us. Because its have unix system with great user interface and many application support.

I got a MacBook Pro 13” i5 8g ram because battery/portability, stability, don’t want to deal with quirks of Linux but still have a good shell and it was only a pound a day for 4 years with no interest so wasn’t to bad of a deal when I spend 3 pound a day or more on a cup of coffee. They also hold there value well which is a bonus and my main pc is a monster that can run tons of vms so doesn’t have to do that much heavy lifting.

Usually a desktop.

But when I need to work out of my house, I use an old Inspirion 1525.
