I closed atom in frustration and installed vscode.

I...

I think....

I think I'm in love....

@Observable 1- IntelliJ is for Java, do you know his needs? 2- IntelliJ is not free

@dontbeevil not just java, use it almost every day though I dont do java

@Codex404 it's advertised for java, what else support?
  • 1
@dontbeevil free version not sure, paid version supports everything IntelliJ sells, except for C I think, and possibly iOS development. All web languages, for example, should be supported in the pro version.

@dontbeevil C#, Ruby, Im pretty sure C++ and C as well, php, css, html, javascript and anything else they have dedicated editors for.

You only *think* you're in love? You'll know for sure that you are by the end of the day, I promise.

You can do so much with VSCode! It's like a Swiss Army Knife.

I did that once... And then ended up reinstalling Atom... Now I have (and frequently use) both... what does that make me?

vscode really does feel like it was made for _me_. I'm not sure what it is about it that feels so much better than any other editor I have used.
  • 1
@dontbeevil You can use it for plenty of languages, I've used it for PHP before jumping to netbeans :)

@Observable yeah i kniw they make different ones, that's why i asked about why specific intelliJ... Anyway i use resharper as addon to visual studio

    @virustark24 fastest pro tips:
    - pin on taskbar
    - hit the start button (on keyboard), type code
  • 1
@Observable I use both tbh. Code for the little things, Intellij for things that turn into projects, or python stuff (Vs code auto complete is useless in that regard).

I do miss a proper elastic search integration though, like the one for Vs code, which lets you write queries in the editor and submit them. It turns the results in a editor tab with the JSON in it.

What's so great in vscode? What does it have that other pseudo-IDEs don't? I mean, Sublime, Atom, Brackets?
Are there any useful features that exist only in vscode, without any similar thing in IntelliJ?

@mt3o no, but it does seem more finished.
  • 0
@Codex404 please, explain. I really don't understand it. I tried. And came back to intellij.
  • 1
@mt3o you asked compared to atom sublime etc.

I prefer IntelliJ myself as well
  • 1
    @Codex404 ok. I was inconsequent.

    Notepad will remain legendary
  • 1
    You misspelled Sublime
  • 1
@mt3o instead of 30 seconds it only takes 27 to start
  • 1
@4h4b that's a huge difference! :D project I'm working on takes 20 minutes to compile and deploy to int server by Jenkins :) i'd save so much time!

I only use vscode to solve git conflict because it highlight the difference.
