    Welcome to the SNES club.

    I found this Super NES Classic Mini for less than 50€ in a Black Friday offer, with 21 games... And to think that back at the time we payed that much just for one game cartridge ...

    You have a big hand 😮

    @joas it's not the original SNES!!, it's this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

    @irene yes, Megadrive was it's most direct competitor, and technically comparable. PlayStation 1 came a bit later and it was superior technically, but I think it can be considered that it was already part of the next generation.

    The only flame there is the burning fires of truth!

    I mean, it it cute(that's not the OG) but Megadrive is still superior, not to mention far more interesting(and challenging) to program for.
    BTW if someone is interested in coding tricks for the Genesis, look up GameHut on youtube.

    @embeddedmaikel loce to be that guy, but OP did say nineties

    Checkmate atheists!

    @irene I mean, I wouldn't do it but it's genuinely fun. The DMA stuff, the coprocessor, the DSP... Makes you understand black boxes.

    @irene because older systems a nice af

    Also "that guy" :c

    @StefanGliga Also GameHut is bae

    @StefanGliga I don't say it's necessarily false, but why would Mega Drive/Genesis be superior? What criteria are you using? This post here seems to indicate the opposite, just by the numbers: https://m.ign.com/articles/2009/...

    @StefanGliga I had the Atari, SNES, mega drive 2, PS1, and N64

    They got better as time moved on, but You can’t call 1 superior based on opinion.

    @C0D4 which Atari? Lynx? I never knew anybody who had one, although I remember that gaming magazines at the time stressed its technical power compared to Game Gear, let alone Game Boy

    @embeddedmaikel the 2600.

    Wasn’t the Lynx the handheld?
  • 1
    @C0D4 Yes, the Lynx was a 16-bit handheld gaming console from the same period, that's why I thought you were talking about that one (The 2600 was 8-bit and older)
  • 1
    @embeddedmaikel nope, never knew anyone with the handheld Atari.

    My first handheld was this old boy

    @embeddedmaikel I kinda was meant as a flame starter with a bith of truth to it. While SNES did generally sell better and sometimes look better, Genesis has 2 CPUs(Moto 68000 @7.5 and a Z80 @3.5) while the SNES has only one(Ricoh,a MOS6502 clone,@3.5); and has an advanced 3D math coprocessor/VLIW DSP. It
    Genesis AFAIK also has a more vibrant demoscene.
    Tt(a studio) even found a way to display 512 different colors(4096 if you include dithering/FRC) on it and also a way to play full fat .MODs on the Z80(with minimal involvment of the 68000).

    @C0D4 that ain't vintage, that's museum material :))

    @StefanGliga well, as I remember, one of the most heated discussions were about Street Fighter II: SNES received it first, but when Mega Drive received it, it included the possibility of choosing the last four "bosses" (Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison). This was a hard to swallow pill for SNES owners ... at least until we revived the Turbo edition.

    And just a couple of days later, look what I found when visiting a friend ... Don't you want one too?
