Well here's how I see things going:
Intel and AMD ditch their assembly architectures for Scratch, because drag and drop is very popular lately.
The Boolean is renamed to the biggot by SJW leaders for only supporting binary views.
You must first ask consent to add an item to a linked list, because forcing two items together promotes rape culture.
Apple removes the "h" and "7" keys on all laptop models and gives no reason for their actions.
Linus Torvalds grows an extra middle finger, and it still isn't enough.
Nintendo makes Mario gay and Luigi black to be more inclusive.
LG makes a curved monitor that curves away from you rather than towards you. People buy it in confusion.
Everyone makes the same ad revenue on YouTube, and it is rebranded to OurTube. Luckily, they were able to keep the color scheme.
People finally realize that machine learning is just math, and stop using it everywhere. (Just kidding lol)
AMD and Gucci merge. Nobody understands why.23
Whenever I'm starting to think that my job is hard, I always recall that someone somewhere had to ensure their code compatibility with Nintendo 3DS browser8
Heyy that was easier than expected...!
(Also hi, long time no rant, my life is boring)
For context: I can now run homebrew stuff on my Nintendo switch13
I coded for 9 hours straight. Super productive day with Java Spring Framework. 😁😊
Now it's time for a reward. Time for my favorite game ever.10
Anyone else heard of this cool little device? (GPD Win, an obscure Chinese computer that is like a Nintendo DS but it has an x64 processor and runs full windows 10)20
What's your favorite console ? I love my switch, it is portable, has great games and HOMEBREWS.
I've been wanting to start making stuff on it for a while but didn't want to get banned, finally it's possible so here it is my first project : a Devrant client for switch !
It took me a bit cause i was unexperienced with the platform and there are a few technical issues i had to workaround ( like no support for ssl rn and devrant api is only https :/ ) but nevertheless it's here. I'm happy now.13
You might remember it as the former president of Nintendo, but he was also a very impressive programmer. As he was president of HAL Laboratories, he helped with the development of Pokémon Stadium for the Nintendo 64 by porting the Pokémon Red/Blue battle system not by having any sort of documentation, but by reading the assembly source code.
He did so to allow Game Freak's developers (who were only a team of 4 at the time) to focus on their work on Pokémon Gold/Silver. But he did more: when they had to localize Red/Blue for America, they couldn't fit everything in a cartridge. They had the same problem while developing Gold/Silver, since cartridges had at most 8 Mb of storage capacity back then, and they had to fit not only the Johto region but the Kanto one as well! So Iwata stepped in, and created a graphics compression tool which managed to make everything fit in the cartridges.
He did this while not even being part of Nintendo, and the work was so impressive that the Pokémon devs thought it was "a waste to just have [him] as president!" (ie. why not make use of such programming skills).
Truly someone I look up to.9
It has been more than a decade when I thought I lost this childhood buddy of mine, 'til when I found you like this. Why? :(11
Was scrolling some old photos and fell on that gift my bf gave me at Christmas 2016. The cover was so perfectly done, I thought for a few seconds it was a real special edition made by Nintendo just for the lolz...

Do you believe that anyone can do anything? (See: 13th Doctor)
Can anyone become a programmer? Or is it not for everybody?
My cousin has started "learning" C programming at college. I was actually surprised when he first told me that he wanted to study programming and get an IT degree. He would give an impression of a spoiled non-tech son of a non-tech manager to you. (He plays games on his Xbox One and Nintendo Switch and uses his MacBook Air to watch anime). He was never good at studying or learning. I immediately thought that it was totally not for him and he should give it a second thought, but he said that he was absolutely sure about it. It's been a few weeks now and he's finding it all really difficult.
I think one should like learning constantly and should like solving problems to make it all an enjoyable learning experience.
Self-study is also really important, especially if you have garbage professors (like he says he has).
I always try to help him. I told him to focus on self-study, recommended good books (he even bought one for C), recommended good online resources. But he's a procrastinator leveled over 9000. So, you'd understand, he's not doing any of that right now. I even told him that if he didn't self-study, he might regret it one day, but he just can't bring himself to self-study, he says. I'm gonna continue helping him in any way I can, but I guess you can't really help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.
Thanks for reading. :)13

It's all a bit childish, right?8
Nostalgic times! Ain't it cute? Super NES was the best gaming console from the nineties...start the flame!21
That's it, the Nintendo Switch got fully exploited. Any firmware!
And only after about a year. nVidia absolutely screwed up with their security.
The Nintendo Switch store still sucks, the games are all still priced above 40 dllrs and pretty meh still
Just in case anyone was wondering.11
Game Streaming is an absolute waste.
I'm glad to see that quite a lot of people are rightfully skeptical or downright opposed to it. But that didn't stop the major AAA game publishers announcing their own game streaming platforms at E3 this weekend, did it?
I fail to see any unique benefit that can't be solved with traditional hardware (either console or PC)
- Portability? The Nintendo Switch proved that dedicated consoles now have enough power to run great games both at home and on the go.
- Storage? You can get sizable microSD cards for pretty cheap nowadays. So much so that the Switch went back to use flash-based cartridges!
- Library size/price? The problem is even though you're paying a low price for hundreds of games, you don't own them. If any of these companies shut down the platform, all that money you spent is wasted. Plus, this can be solved with backwards compatibility and one-time digital downloads.
- Performance on commodity hardware? This is about the only thing these streaming services have going for it. But unfortunately this only works when you have an Internet connection, so if you have crap Internet or drop off the network, you're screwed. And has it ever occurred to people that maybe playing Doom on your phone is a terrible UX experience and shouldn't be done because it wasn't designed for it?
I just don't get it. Hopefully this whole fad passes soon.19
I sometimes think that my presentations aren't good enough and then I remember the Nintendo presentation from E3 in 2003.2
I want my relationship to be like a Nintendo DS cartridge. If we have any problems, take it out, blow on it, and put it back in.2
So couple of days ago I've told you that I've made an Duck Hunt Easter Egg in one of my utilities. And @jiraTicket asked me:
"How on earth do you get a decent gameplay out of Duck Hunt without a Nintendo lightning gun?"
Well the answer is..:
Connecting Leap Motion and making them suffer..
P.s. It took me a loooong time to hit that duck with this controller=))))
I'm the only one working on this anymore and every toolchain supporting the system (remember, we're using an ARM9 [initial strap CPU] AND an ARM11 (give or take an ARM7 slaved to the ARM9 that we don't have support for yet), all in tandem, and the only toolchain that remotely works is for ARM6 for some reason) hates the Linux kernel. Current goals: SD R/W support (currently RO), X, GNUTools, maybe a better fucking softkey driver (i'll have to find whoever made this one and fucking beat him), and a working joy2mouse/touch2mouse driver. Oh, and figure out if Swap would work either with the New 2DS/3DS' Bonus Drive (unused 64MB partition on NAND) without killing the NAND as the SD access is max. 1.2 MB/s read/write speed or so, which isn't fast enough for swap AND other things.
Read-only SD support
Weston (term only, can't click)
Standard 3DS/Standard 2DS/New 3DS (Models before 2017, the non-foldables, rebranded standard 2DSes) features only, not yet New 3DS/New 2DS-enhanced
Currently failing final compile because toolchain:
Preliminary custom R/W SD support4
I'm gonna flex and tell that I've got a new Switch. My family and friends are really the best.
Thanks to them I also got to know that thief that stole my original Switch is named Stephan.
So I also want to thank you, Stephan, you thieving fuck. I hope you'll have fun with my console. I know that the police won't do shit since you are living in different country, so you can feel safe.
I've lost most of my games along with the console, cause I'm an idiot, but if anyone want to add me to their friend list here's my code:
i should be writing some unit tests for a customer project, but i brought my new nintendo switch to work and there is nobody else in this room... :D4
Aaaaand my home setup, featuring a bunch of electronics, an orange pi on the wall (the little orange led is a bitcoin ticker), a nintendo 2ds and a nico robin figurine6
My mom woke me up at 6am because the tv sound was not working..
I tried almost everything, use the tv control, mute button, menu tv configuration..
even checked different inputs using my Nintendo switch and super Nintendo's and it didn't work..
Couldnt do shit.. so I had to use the old reliable!
turned off the tv and then turned on ..
It was like magic! fuck everything!3
Guess what my old Windows 8.1 laptop and a Nintendo 64 have in common?
Neither have a goddamn fan or a CMOS battery!!! I shit you not, I opened up my old windows 8.1 computer from like 2012 and it did not have a fan. Instead it had a large piece of metal connected to a CPU as a heatsink. It also never had a CMOS battery since the solder pads have never been used.7
Is anyone here in to modding Nintendo stuff?
I used to do custom Homebrew mods for the Wii and had installed Linux on a DSi.
Now my current project is messing around with ACE (arbitrary code injection) in super Mario world.
This concludes ewpratten's useless post.5
One of my main hobbies is composing music. I had been in a creative funk for almost half a year when, during my vacation, I randomly discovered this little music production program for Nintendo Switch called Korg Gadget.
So far I've created 6 finished tracks, and this latest one I took a step further by giving some extra time and care.
I'm really glad to have the creative juices flowing again, especially since work has not been great lately...
Give it a listen, if you like. The other tracks are available as well :-)
New track. Sort of Synthwave. Composed with Korg Gadget on Nintendo Switch, mixed on a pc.
anyone who can get Nintendo /PlayStation / XBox onboard to sponsor putting up consoles at every gate of an airport will have my eternal gratitude.
A 30 minute Jenkins pipeline just happened to start at the same time as today’s Nintendo Direct. Whoops. Guess I’ll take a break.
Linux on the 3DS is going well. Others have no issue at all, but I've gotta fix issues with the toolchain executables being named wrong, the provided, precompiled toolchain everyone else uses being the wrong one and being incompatible...
Fuck my life.1
Why Nintendo why??!
Why can't you make a normal Pokémon game like in the Gameboy for Mobile Devices!
Pokémon Go is good but I miss the old one. Too much today I guess.13
Only now just realised the Nintendo switch has an ARM CPU... Im even more impressed at what people are pumping out now...6
I make friends on the Nintendo Switch with friend codes.
Friend codes in 2017, what is the world coming to?
So, a few years ago I did an internship at this company really close to my house. It was a total disaster but a few months ago I decided to give it another shot and apply for a junior position there as I needed money and they knew me there. For some reason they hired me and now I work there for about 2 months.
There's one other developer here and my problem is that he's the senior here. Guys I don't know what to do about it, this guy is so controlling. He won't allow me to decide ANYTHING.
I have a whiteboard with all my projects and he wrote deadlines there (because his boss said he needs to set deadlines since he never finishes anything on time, but he decided to put that on me) when I finished something in time (like 3 days early!) I wanted to put that under the project on the board. But he didn't want it. No reason. Just no.
He's also constantly talking, all day long. He writes 1 or 2 functions per day. Maybe fixes a small bug. And then one day per week he actually works. Constantly complaining about me, bugging me, removing electricity from my screens, setting my wallpaper to 2 dudes kissing ect. ect. its fucking annoying me. This guy even plays video games on his nintendo or call of duty.. Working for other customers that have nothing to do with this company. And the boss thinks he's great..
So 2 days ago, the whiteboard filled with his drawings was completely emptied because of me. It felt so good, he was so angry he didn't talk all day, to no one. What else can I do guys? I can't go to my boss, the other guy in this office doesn't really care and he's on his side. But when I code I need to be able to concentrate. I can't even have a serious conversation with this guy because he just doesn't take me serious. He always thinks he's right and wants control of every little thing...
What do I do?10
Being able to make THE game I've wanted to make for 4 years. I have a team of people who wants to participate (dev, artist, etc) and I even started building my engine from scratch.
But most importantly, my dream for this game is to have it published on the Nintendo Switch (also PC, OSX and Linux of course)
But right now I must focus on finishing my degree and doing contracts to make enough money to hopefully work full time on my game.
I'll see you in 2 years Albi4
Christmas Day and the Nintendo server is slow .... hmmm , I wonder what everybody unwrapped under the tree!
What does it take to develop apps/games for the Nintendo switch? For exemple something where you can browse a remote storage and stream videos/look at pics.2
If they want me to play with a stable connection so bad, maybe they could've not put the weakest available wifi antenna in their console?
Anyway I finally found out I can use my phone as a repeater so that's nice.11
-My phone is root enabled (built in one)
-Super Mario Run is out so I download it.
-It doesnt like root
-I inadvertently installed full root which can hide itself (lucky no bricking)
AND IT WORKED until now...15
Pokémon go is fun, but it's not great.
Doesn't everyone think that it would be better to actually battle for your Pokemon's level?
They could perhaps keep a similar evo system (Everytime you fight you get like 1 poke candy)
This catch and release system is getting kind of annoying in my opinion.
I want to get attached to my Pokemon and actually feel like a trainer, not a garbage disposal for Pokemon.
They already have a battle mechanic, they would just need to enable ai battle algorithms and ambient encounters.
The Nintendo switch has been out for a while now. The one thing no one has ever addressed, how are the joy-cons charged?! I can't see any connections in between the console and the controller. And teardowns don't reveal induction coils.8
20 years ago, in China, they sold a so-called learning-machine which is a modified version of super Nintendo with a full sized keyboard, you could use it to learn how to type, and play Nintendo games. somehow it supports basic, and the manual book have printed a full code to create a stupid game with you could move a super Mario character with arrows, me and my step brother spend a whole day typed the 40+pages of code and enjoyed the game for 5 mins. BTW you can not save your program. after that I think it is so cool to create vedio games by programming.
Out of days off since I got sick earlier this month, so have to work from today to friday.
Well, "work" is a big term for someone who's currently paid to finish his website in the company's office :D
There's almost no one here. The company chat is showing 9 people online out of 150. Everything is quite, the 3 other guys in my office are talking quietly, I could sleep without troubles in such conditions.
I'll definitely bring my Nintendo Switch tomorrow, though.
yo imagine if the most common and best toolchain for, say, Intel PCs was "mid-source": You can have the buildscripts, and a few extra seldom-useful bits, but nothing else.
Welcome to devkitPro: it's too hard to maintain a toolchain package for all the systems you develop on, so we'll maintain a modded copy of pacman you HAVE to use to get the only toolchain for Nintendo consoles for all systems. Oh, and it's not normal pacman, no, it's hardcoded to only be used for their shit.
Even on Windows.
why do they do this to us again?16
Turns out the reason the current tester12 build of Linux 3DS hangs on my 3DS (at the very least) is due to it trying (and failing) to get the version of the onboard NAND (where the Nintendo-sanctioned code resides), which hangs. If I boot the known-working copy of Linux 3DS and run parted, it instantly dies due to my NAND making it say "Error: A partition cannot reside outside of the disk!"
Either the onboard NAND is dying or Linux is just being an asshole. Either way... fuck my life.
I just love Pokémon since my childhood, but mate, Pokémon Go has a totally different build quality than the regular series. What a crap app they've launched. A shitload of bugs that prevent me from even keeping it open for more than 1 minute. Nothing works. You can do better, Nintendo. Niantic is using your name. It is not a lack of team or money.2
N64 emulation possible on Nintendo hardware? Are you SUUUUUUURE???
According to GBATemp:
CPU: Single-core PPC, 729MHz
GPU: 243 MHz single-core
Possible? Yes (always full-speed)
CPUs: 2, Quad-core ARM11 (804MHz), Single-core ARM9 (134MHz)
GPU: 268MHz single-core
CPU: Octa-core (2x Quad-core ARMv8 equivalent), 1.02GHz
GPU: 307.2MHz-768MHz (max. 384MHz when undocked)
Possible? Barely (5FPS or less constant, only half the instruction set possible to implement)
this all makes total fucking sense7

Nintendo...and their sins are trivial compared to the human QoL exploitations by big apps.
Take your pick:
Grew up as a total Miyamoto fanboy, RIP sweet prince. I'm not even complaining about the copy-paste mentality with their games (because they're still fun and polished)
I'm honestly confounded by their petty attempts to knick the pennies of youtube content creators; it's seemingly blind, principal-based pride. In a utilitarian sense, their behaviors are contrary to the big picture. So I just shake my head and game on desktop. GG.
Playing The Secret of Monkey Island on my uncle's computer in 1991. I asked my parents for a computer that year instead of a Super Nintendo... for school of course.
Pals, can you recommend some good games for the Nintendo Switch?
I already own
Mario-Kart 8 and
Breath of the wild.11
Was like 6 when my parents bought their first computer. I don't really remember much of it besides countless hours of playing Need for Speed Hot. That and Diddy Kong Racing on my Nintendo 64. How I miss those times.
P.S: reposted it because I forgot the wk tag and the 30 min edit had already passed .
NOT A RANT
Any of you guys and gals on DevRant bought a Nintendo Switch?
If Yes, what's your verdict on the console/handheld hybrid? And how's Zelda BoTW??
Is it just me or has a company run out of ideas when their keynote is more about their partners and vendors than them self? ** Caugh Apple **
(I'm an Apple user myself)
If anyone is looking for a Switch there's a FB sale coming up in the next few hours.
Also I caved and actually bought that PC I wanted, seems apparently the price on Sunday wasn't correct... or a lot of people like me called in and complained.
