I never tried it because there never was a fully functional rom for my device that I knew of

I think that the only real application of Ubuntu on Android is to make RaspberryPi from it. But this would be really great (if it would only support more phones).

Which Windows Phone do you mean with APK support? There are huge differences between some of the versions.

Chewy8816yI remember this! The first phone sold with this OS was made by Spanish company called BQ. It was a good phone!

TobyAsE28116yUbuntu was the reason I bought my Nexus 4. Flashed the early builds: WiFi, cellular, camera and sound not working but looking fabulous. I was hoping that some day the os would be stable and I could actually use it. Didn't happen sadly.

kappekp17846y@deadlyRants windows phone 10 .. the original build 🙂 it was in beta though .. but still made an effort

jeeper58096yI was excited for this project too. I wasn’t involved but was ramping up at the start of my using Linux

Android is Linux. Linux is just a kernel, which android runs. Regardless, posix is posix. Even windows 10 supports posix (Ubuntu on Windows - which has no linux on it...).
If Debian and ubuntu could just support toy box (busybox alternative), abandon systemd, and use the phones architecture, why cant it run on-top of android? Gentoo can. -
Redders9576y@faptain yeah, I'm in the UK and got a KaiOS phone for while my S8 was in for repair, it isn't quite as polished as I'd like (and the lack of WhatsApp for phones outside India sucks), but generally it is a nice OS, though I'd prefer if it were still Firefox OS!

I was so pumped for this and to see where it would lead after I tried it out and equally as devastated when they stopped development. :(

Been using Ubuntu mobile OS by UBPorts on my OnePlus One and it works beautifully. Yes it has small glitches at certain places like carma flash etc. But that doesn't stop me from using it as a daily device. Hoping to see more support for it from the app development community

Remember the Ububtu mobile OS ?
I remember working on the community UI drive for this project. To know that something as awesome as ubuntu would come down into the form factor of a phone , was just ecstatic.
The first build was out , people liked it. People nagged a bit about the performance issues , but it was going fine. Then the second build .. then the third no one heard about and the 4th that never came.
The interface for this system was unique because after Wondows , this is the only other OS developer that embraced the one ecosystem mantra of design.
Using Ubuntu phone was natural , it was a small desktop OS.
I remember logging on to launchpad one day and seeing the Ubuntu mobile channel with it's last post " Thank you and goodbye "
It was heartbreaking , but i could understand. Like windows phone ( which if you guys weren't aware of , had APK support by the end of its lifecycle ) felt crushed under the weight of android and iOS.
Waiting for a day when there will be a third champion in game. I miss having to see Ubuntu being on my phone , but they seem to be doing great in everything else , so good on that. 😄
Ok done .. thanks
