If I had a penny for each time I've seen someone hating on Electron without considering why it's popular, I'd be a billionaire.

I'd say people don't hate Electron but Electron apps, and often for good reasons.

I have no doubt that wavedistrict will be perfectly fine with electron. I mean... damm that ui is ultra smooth! With it's soft animations. sheesh! I came!

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good.

    Same for PHP

@deadlyRants I can see that. Although in my cases it has been a hatred for Electron itself, and because of RAM and CPU usage, which doesn't really make sense because Electron doesn't waste RAM and CPU on its own if you use it correctly. But I do agree that it's the apps developed with it that cause issues. I use VSCode and Discord myself and they're not using that much RAM.

@Alice That is also true, yes.

@enitoni Agreed, the issue come from those doing shit with it. Certain applications benefit from using Electron, but for some it's just plain lazy arse developers behind it.

@Jilano Reminds me of Unity 🤔

@Marl3x Oh, almost forgot about that one! There are probably too many examples of this kind of behaviour to cite them all.

@heyheni I mean, thanks! Didn't expect a comment like that here, but I appreciate it.

Electron as an idea: love it

Electron as a move to desktop from web: great

Electron power hungry enough to slow down an i7 + 32GB ram: shit

Now there are some great apps being made with electron, but most devs suck at getting that last one under control.

Electron is only resource hungry because the people using electron code like a web developer and not a native developer that thinks about memory and CPU management

I don't have a problem with Electron per-se, though I can't personally see myself ever using it.

I *do* have a problem with people shouting "I use Electron because it's Javascript and therefore so lightweight and modern!"

...And yes, I've heard that argument from at least a handful of people on multiple occasions.

@AlmondSauce That's an "okay" argument, as long as it's followed by "Wait... Why are you hitting me? No! Stop!"

I was indifferent to electron until I found out how many great programs I use are built with it.

@CatMDV I think you'd be a lot wealthier if it was PHP
