Another day, another dead Google project.

Really wish Google could get messaging right.

I used Google Allo for 2 days and decided it is not going to be ever in my phone. Similar thing is happening for Google Keep.. All their apps are somehow unusable. I hope this doesnt happen for Gpay..

They're messaging, pff, you should trying using one of their voice numbers. Complete chaos. Check your call log from voice, navigate to hangouts to call, answer from either but your voicemail only shows up back in voice and also gmail for some dumb reason. Messaging shows up in hangouts though you can type the message from voice but only recieve them in hangouts. Also your contacts do not show up in hangouts properly so to make a call you either have to start from voice or contacts and get redirected to hangouts, unless you just happen to have their number memorized.

If that isn't enough fun, when you finally do call out, you get a prompt saying something about the call being ported through a different number, which if I understood correctly, means that the person receiving your call will see a random phone number each time you do rather than the number you gave them. I didn't actually ask anyone to confirm that last part though, I didn't use it but for a couple of calls

Oh and if you make the mistake of forwarding the calls to your cell line, there's no way to tell which line is receiving the call. Made worse still by the fact that within two weeks of signing up for the damn thing you will start receiving marketing and robocalls on it :)

@M1sf3t Never been brave enough to try a Voice number.

Always figured it would get shut down once I sign up.

@bhouston if it had, you could've considered yourself lucky for dodging a bullet...

@aEEEdev I love Google Keep! I use it on a daily basis.

@Azer0s does it work with google assistant yet or is assistant still insisting on putting notes in the old gmail reminder app, what was it, tasks?

Keep would be great, but the location based alerts never worked for me. I switched to iOS and low and behold the reminders app works perfectly... Another missed opportunity for Google/Android.

@M1sf3t doesn't work with Google assistant but I don't mind

@M1sf3t Dont get me started on the crappy shopping list integration either.

@620hun i was going to say the same thing, i’ve got assistant on my phone because siri sucks at finding things, especially locations. I tried keep, thinking I would like the checklist feature better than reminders but gave up when i couldn’t tell google assistant to record anything there. Hell even siri can get her various apps right.

@Azer0s if i wasn’t able to tell siri to remind me or take a note, i would never have anything because i would never remember to go back and write anything down myself

@M1sf3t I finally switched to a dedicated Todo app outside of Google's toxic control last year. I can't trust Google for a Todo list anymore. ESPECIALLY with Inbox being shut down soon 😭

@bhouston siri and reminders isn’t a bad way to go, just don’t count on her accurately recording the memo. i’ve had some taken me a week to remember what they were supposed to say 😂

Butbut google never rebrand or ditch or mess up their services /s

@aEEEdev but keep is a nice app 🤔

@M1sf3t what is the old Google reminder app at all?
  • 0
@irene I honestly don't remember, I never found the actual app, I could only use it by way of a gmail. It took me forever to find that. Think some of the reminders in there were already passed due by the time I did 🤦🏻‍♂️

@M1sf3t do you mean Tasks maybe?

    Not entirely on topic but....

Actually nowadays, I believe, reminders are placed in calendar (from Keep as well), so you can see all time related things there.

You'll have to excuse the writers bad transitions. Its almost as if he was trying to mimic the subject of his article 😅

@irene its been a few months since i tried, I give up trying to figure them out. Every time you do seems like they want to change the fucking puzzle. I still haven't figured the tab/labels on gmail. Finding an email that I'm expecting sometimes is like playing Where's goddamn Waldo?

@M1sf3t what's with labels? Do you mean the "promo" and other categories of inbox? I've disabled those for me. It's not that useful. And I use the windows mail client anyway, which ignores those labels entirely.

@irene yea thats what i started using, at least the apple equivalent. That was going great until the high sierra upgrade broke my spotlight indexes. I finally got around to fixing that last night

I really wanted to use this. Confirmation message was never delivered

@irene bout like rotten apple these days, you missed all my fun with time machine last night. I just got it to work earlier and all i was trying to do was swap drives. Tonights fun will consist of putting slax on the other one and getting it to boot up instead of osx.

I'd appreciate it if y'all took a moment while your here to make a silent prayer that all goes well. Maybe with all our combined wills I won't fuck this up too bad 💻🐒=🔥🙊
