I've used Java for the majority of my programming life and honestly I don't have many good things to say about it

Root825576yI don't hate people with CS degrees. I hate the attitude that a degree is required to be a good dev.
I also don't hate PHP because I've never used it. I hate PHP specifically because I've used it -- extensively -- and know its many faults.
Have you noticed people overgeneralize? -
C0D4681456y- I don’t have a CS degree, I don’t hate anyone unless they deserve it (it’s a small list, and not one for education related)
- I use a several languages, and only dislike NodeJS for its dependency hell! -
Aedath1506yI think people are starting to realise that a CS degree doesn't mean much. It only shows your ability to learn and finish tasks.
I got a CS degree just to please my parents. Nothing in my life has changed. -
Maer17826yA degree is not absolutely required to be a good dev. Still, I do not understand the culture of how people look at degrees on devRant.
The purpose of a degree is to get a qualification and learn principles. Any studied dev worth their salt will have worked at a company by the time they do their master's to get experience. Many in multiple companies.
Somehow most of what I read here describes people walking out of university having gained nothing more than a piece of paper and bragging rights.
If that is true, then I am left with two conclusions - either those are potato universities, or this culture is established to make oneself feel good about one's abilities.
Critical to me are people who walk out the university having only studied and neglected work experience, then go into industry and expect a giant paycheck. Usually this is horrific. But I haven't seen many such people over here. -
I dont have a CS degree and I certainly dont hate people who do. I'd hate for someone to be condescending about it, like "oh you're a self-taught dev so you dont know shit" or for people to think degrees are required to be a dev, but that's about it.

Have you noticed:
• Those who didn't take a CS degree hate those who have?
• Those who have never used that programming language in-depth, hate that programming language?
