Can I get a job without a degree? I'm so sick of studying like this in India. Argh. I already know a lot more than the average computer science students and I'm wasting my time trying to learn why friction opposed the tendency of slipping. Idiots.

Maybe you can get your foot in the door somewhere as an intern, then if you impress them get hired and work your way up.

Last week I went with a school group to visit some IT Industries (Intel and Luxoft), the last, they told us:

    1. We don't want people who just got graduated
    2. We don't care if you have title or not, what we care is that you know what we want, and that you prove to us that you know.

So, If you know a lot, there's sure a place for you I a company that shares this same ideology.

@masterakay sure if you will have good contribution to opensource projects ;)

Truth: all subject matters. They give an extra dimension to analyse the problem.

I got a job while pursuing my degree. You won't have much to negotiate with without one, though.

@leviathan07 oh it's for another tag.. There's a tag "I'm so sick of this same old syllabus" which is my take on her song Same Old Love having a line "I'm so sick of this same old love."

Hard but not impossible. Here most recruiting filters will throw you away if you don't have an IT or CS degree but if you can get past this and you can actually do what it takes, you'll absolutely get a job.

@flag0 without a degree it's going to be reaaaaal hard. Hmm. That just makes me more depressed. xD

let me get straight to the point. Yes you can. I work with a pretty large company based in India, we don't care about your academic background. You should be able to pass our coding test, that's all that matters. I'd strongly suggest you intern or take up free work as much as you can.

@jsdev alright! Thank you so much! I'll see what I can do. :)

@masterakay before deciding, ask the same question on quora once.
  • 1
@rookiemaverick yes I was thinking of the same thing! Plus here in India parents play a huge role in our decisions. And they will definitely not like this.

@jsdev this. But the thing is most recruiting units will filter out people who don't have shit ton of experience even if they have good experience if you don't have a grad degree.

You can possibly keep your hopes up, besides, 30% of google is reportedly without a degree. (Can't guarantee source)

I would not recommend giving up your degree, but if you're serious about that, the best you can do is start your own work

Sounds like you are in the wrong place at the right time. You can fix that 😉

A college education will make you learn stuff that may not want to learn. However some of that stuff will be immensely useful at some point in the future. You'll be surprised as to where you can apply a certain concept that was taught by a boring professor in the winter. Keep your mind open to learning :)
