I'm a little afraid of what I'm doing. I just asked my boss to change my current role, almost on site, with a new one requested by the global function of my company. If they accept I will be traveling >80% of the time. I know I will miss my little daughters but I also know that this is maybe the last chance for a step forward in my career. I'm sharing my feelings only with my brother and devrant people.

It sounds to me that you yourself are not convinced of this discission. Careers are meaningless. Working, only for the money or prestige makes you unhappy, I guarantee you. Also travelling sucks bigtime. Seeing the world? Seeing the inside of meeting rooms on the other side of the planet, is what I call it...

@Lukas What I am supposed to do if I stay here is managing a very small team and do application maintenance, aka bug fixing, on some old and badly written systems. I can become depressed very quickly...

You should definitely try it. Be open for changes. If you don't like it you still have the possibility to search for something new. If you not try it you'll never know if you like it more than your current position. Maybe it's the kind of job you ever wanted to have.

dude, stay home with your kids until theyre atleast teenagers - that period in time will never come back and you'll regret for the rest of your life if you miss out on it...!

"work" and "career" is just so overrated, what matters is family&friends!

@JohanO Thanks pal. You know that somehow in my hearth I think the same but I think also that if I am not so happy with my job, that takes most of my time, then I will not be happy either with my relatives.

Go for it man. I'm in the same position bugfixing old legacy code and it's making me miserable.

Either take the change or start looking for a new job.

It doesn't matter how high you climb, it's important that you're happy.

Trust me, your little girls won't mind the missing time if they have the best of you instead of coming home burned out and miserable.

I see...I would look for a job elsewhere or do something else, if you are not 100% sure of this carreer change.Bosses, in the end, can be very ungrateful towards the people who sacrificed their entire private lives. family>career, to put it in dev terms ;)@dinux
