Definitely my security teacher. He actually expected us to actively learn the stuff and put effort into our education. He guided us through malware analysis and reverse engineering, simplifying it without insulting us.
We had students who thought they knew everything and he corrected them. We had arrogant students he put in place.
He treated us like adults and expected us to act like adults.
That's the only class I enjoyed studying for, because he would tell us exactly what wasn't on the exams (it was an intro course, didn't need to know the math). There were no trick questions.
I told him about the shitty teacher and he helped me through that confidence block. He helped me realize I *can* make it through the workforce as a female in security because I will work my ass off to be the best I can be. He reminded me why I love computers and why I want to go into forensics.
He's been a great mentor and role model and hiring him is one of the few things my department did right.7 -
Just saw a junior engineer role that requires 7years of experience. Some people will not make it to Heaven.15

I have been teaching my fiance PHP over the last year, and she has been sent her first technical test for a Junior Developer role. She is flying through it, seeing people enjoy coding is a great experience!5 -
My LinkedIn profile bio:

My LinkedIn “notes to recruiters”:

My preferences:

- listed native technologies in the tag selector.
Email this morning:
Hi are you interested in the below role:
Role: Hybrid mobile developer
Salary: xxxxx
Type: 6 - 12 month contract.
No I am not you fucking fucktard. Read my fucking profile or go fuck yourself with a fucking cactus!9 -
Recruiter: hi, I have an iOS Developer role. Would you be interested?
Me: sure, send me on the spec.
Recruiter: ok great so for this Full stack app developer role we are looking for someone with:
- 5+ years embedded C/C++ experience
- 5+ years of working with Windows and Linux
- Native Android development
- As well as Native iOS experience
Interested?
Me: ......... ok buddy, you and me are going to have a little chat about what “iOS Developer” means17 -
Just got a message from a recruiter that contained this sentence: "I have the JS attached for your review". Took me a while to realise JS meant job specification and not JavaScript (which is required for the role).1

I can finally play the role of my adversaries:
I will be that Client who makes unreasonable deadlines and unrealistic demands.
Let us see how the A.I. devs can keep up with me ;)2 -
When a recruiter calls you about a .NET developer role and asks if you wear glasses because the client wants someone who can "see sharp". 😜5
-
I like when a recruiter calls, decides you're not experienced enough for the role they called for, and immediately ask if you know someone who is. Sure, bro, let me help do your job for you.4

Landed my first grad role as a software developer!
Node, c#, VB, xamarin, swift!

I had an internship in a company for a month, after two weeks they want me to stay for paid internship for the lenght of my final year of studies! Feels amazing!
Staring tommorow! :D2 -
Just inherited a web application, worst security ever, all it does is call an unsecured application that does an active directory call, verifies the user name exists and then grants the role that the username is assigned. That is it oh and if you can find your way into the admin panel anyone can edit anyone else's role.
Come to find out this application got the dev who designed it a promotion to lead.5 -
My computer science teacher is very sly: while you are working he stands right behind you for some time, so you start writing good code, functions for everything, perfect indentation... But you don't know if he is still behind you, and you're not brave enough to look back, so you write good code for the rest of the lesson.
What a good prof8 -
I attempted an online test for a Java Developer role at a pretty big company.
The test had a JavaScript question.
🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Just to clarify, the job description had no mention of JS6 -
Recruiter emails me about a role. I replied that I am not interested.
Two weeks later, the recruiter emails me again that my profile is not suitable for the role and they have saved my details and will contact me in future.
WTF. This is a very well reputed organization for that matter.4 -
So after being in this role for 4 years we have finally got to the point where there are 0 outstanding bugs/issues with our software.10

1. Finally publish some of my open source projects.
2. Career progression (move to more of a tech leadership role).
3. Stop taking shit from managers who know nothing about code. -
Sometimes I envy frontend developers because the very nature of their role involves rapid change. Then I remember that backend devs can practically get away with murder and the customer will be none the wiser.2

Turned in my two weeks yesterday. Taking a role at a company with more than one programmer. Here's hoping for new friendships and shared knowledge. :)2

I GOT A PROPER DEV ROLE!!
The days of bemoaning the quality of devs on a product and logging tickets that never get addressed are coming to an end!
Edited: autocorrect changed it to "loving", somewhat optimistically7 -
Recently got hired for my first full-time role and I am overcome with joy, but also terrified of not living up to expectations =/7

Best: Finally left the video game industry for a "real" software engineering role!
Worse: Left work at an exciting studio and fun projects for shorter hours and more pay, and it's incredibly boring and I actually *miss* the crunch and chaos. -
I got the job! 🥳 🎉
One company wanted me to wait a little over a week because they had other final round interviews going on. Meanwhile, during that time, I got an offer, but declined because of lower than expected salary and higher salary on the other potential offer. Later, they got back and increased the salary and changed the role to Lead. Got the role after one more round of interview. 😁10 -

Linkedin/Jura/Monster/[other job finding websites] should add a feature:
A button that reads "lying mofo or dumbass" on each job ad.
For those employers and recruiters who don't understand that neither a senior role nor any role that requires a PhD is classified as an "entry level".
Unfortunately there are so many such dumbfucks I can't blacklist all of them from my job search. 🤬18 -

Interviewing for Senior Web Developer role, candidate: I have 16 years experience in JavaScript...
Don't know anything about addEventListener... FACEPALM3 -
So... Today I started using my first Python web framework, web2py. At a first glance I liked it, the templating system, the view/controller thing ecc. But there is one thing in frameworks that I really don't like: they make me feel dumb.
I mean, in just one line of code I can generate an entire form, but if I wanna customize it a little bit... I can't. Or better, it is very hard, also if there is a bug, I have to look for a problem in an entire system that I DID NOT wrote.
I don't like the idea that the frameworksl handles everything for you, like it is teasing me, I don't even know how it works, it just works, and man, I don't like it. There's some kind of hacker in me, I dont like a system that just works, I want to know how it works. But the sad thing is that I will have to learn web frameworks if I want to work in the IT, right? Please If you can help me or share your experience with web frameworks do so.3 -
Sure go ahead throw me off a bridge into a task thats completely out of my ability in an area I have no experience or understanding almost completely unrelated to the role in which I applied for.2

Former classmate: Our alma mater is looking for alumni to participate in career day. Share what skills you need and the steps you took for your career path!
Me: Thanks for the invite. But I’m not a good role model for this.
FC: Why not? You’re a successful engineer!
Me: So I used my full tuition university scholarship on an art degree because I was too depressed after a long physical illness. Oh, and for some reason a lot of y’all assumed I went to a private uni when I went to the public uni. Then I went to graduate school immediately after and during a recession and ended up with tens of thousands in student debt. Then I did a lot of part time jobs before going to a shady coding bootcamp. I’m lucky to have encountered an advocate and a company willing to take me on as a junior dev. I’m pretty sure I was a diversity hire and I was definitely underpaid. I’m lucky to have moved on from there and to be thriving now. I’d tell the students to skip college (like I had considered) and go into a trade. And I’d also tell them a lot of life is luck and not just hard work.

People of devRant. I am in need of some advice.
So I joined this new firm around an year ago and ever since my team lead resigned, we have been managing it ourselves. Then a senior member suggested me that I could be a good fit as a team lead role. Now there are members in my team that are more experienced than I am but they either don't want to lead or are not good at it. I never had a formal leadership role before although I have driven projects. Higher management is open overlook my lack of experience but has also said that I may not find lot of technical growth as I am moving to a more administrative role. Any piece of advice on what I should do? I would love to have a leadership role but would it really affect my technical learning?14 -
What exactly is a junior developer?
I mean what it depends on?
I ask because some colleagues have told I'm not junior but I have a junior role at my company
I don't even care and I don't like these classifications of devs but when someone asks me if I'm junior I actually don't know what to answer
I thought it was getting crazy when I read about ninja developer role but let's not talk about it

What should I expect? Any tips?1 -
Had harsh words to a recruitment agency a few days ago who have been emailing me completely irrelevant job specs for weeks. (Side note, I don't know these people or how I ended up on the list in the first place, i'm not looking).
Got an apology this morning from one of the agents, their manager also just sent me a mail to apologise, as she can see from the records i've received a lot of crap ... but she also took a moment to let me know she does have a role that might actually suit my skill set.
Are you fucking kidding me?
"Why doesn't anyone reply to my emails" - because you are the devil and can't be trusted. -
I'm reluctantly in charge of my company... for now. Trying to avoid any of those fancy, personally cringe-worthy, titles like owner, boss, acronyms starting with a C.
My solution, suits our unique branding, is having my role as:
DragonOverlord
Any arguments as to it actually being a position are quickly thwarted, as it's obviously a class.19 -
Gotta love when recruiters try telling me they have a front end role that requires 5+ years experience in Java and Spring.
Get your technologies right2 -
That feeling when you are waiting to hear a response for a front end role and all you receive are questions like do you work on Mac or PC...
#givemethejob2 -
So it turns out I was interviewing for a senior role, when in fact I'm looking for a junior-mid role.
Two days ago I had a bad feeling creep up on me when the HR interviewer mentioned to me that they were looking to fill a senior role. I should have interjected. Instead, I stupidly asked the recruiter after passing the HR interview. He answered that the company would also take a mid-level developer and he thinks that I have a good chance. In retrospective, I'm not sure on what basis he made the judgement call.
I had the technical interview today and didn't get the job as I expected. But the same recruiter told me that the company said they'd take me for an intermediate role in the future, but I didn't make it for the senior role.
Can I take that as "you're not technically sound enough" put in a nicer way to soften the blow? But by the company or the recruiter? Or would they actually consider me for a mid-level role in the future? Who is lying or not lying?
Steam off my head now. Thanks for reading my rant.
Context: I'm still transitioning from another field and barely had one year of web development experience so far, half of which was from where I just learned to hack stuff together. I'm now going to focus on landing an internship or a junior role, without going through recruiters since I'd be waste of their time.15 -
My dev role model is our humble and stupid senior developer.
He gives hope to everyone that there is at least one person who knows less but is at a higher rank.

If there was a team architect role at your company per team that had no financial benefit tied to it and you were told it had no bearing on promotional chances and it came with a lot of extra responsibility and then you were asked to be interviewed (technical and behavioral) by two people outside your team in order for your manager to determine who on your team should have that role even though the last TA (who left the company) on your team was literally chosen by popular vote… would you do it? Would you feel insulted being asked?5

Anyone have any experience with the solutions engineer role and some advice about it? Note: this IS an invitation to rant about solutions engineers so I know what NOT to do.4

Anyone watched the Silicon Valley? AMAZING! I love it, Ehrlich and Gilfoyle are the best!
Does someone know a similar show? And please don't suggest the IT crowd, I don't like it8 -
Someone on my team created roles for each button.
If that button is not part of your role it will show an error.
Error you don't have access to this button.5 -
In my current role, most of the time i am supporting classic asp legacy apps which i absolutely dislike.
When i started the role i told them we have to rewrite the apps in .Net and they said sure sure.. Its been almost 2 years now yet it doesn't seem we are rewriting any time soon. Even if we did some people in the business want us to use Microsoft CRM dynamics.
Hence i am changing jobs. I am no fan of classic asp or Microsoft dynamics CRM for web application development2 -
How the hell do I manage time as a dev and a project manager (sorry I'm new to the role of doing both and everything is hitting me all at once, any advice is appreciated)7
-
Why are most projects only fun at the beginning? I feel like there should be a "first half" and a "second half" during development.
So if I have worked the whole of first half someone else should work the other half with full bar and zeal just like a football match because honestly most times I feel like I'm gonna die towards the end of the project hoping for another developer to come on as a substitution.
However, in this case instead of going to seat on the bench after being substituted, I am willing to play another match immediately.4 -
Created a hidden role in the Postgres database, with some tricky constraints, which only a DBA can find and remove, to give myself, disguised as the postgres account, a role which no one else in the system can have.
Called it "pharaoh". Thug life ;2 -
How long can you work in a role with no potential that bores you shitless but pays an astronomical amount?15

Sooo I've just learned that one of the new guys I'm helping train (And is a level below my role in seniority) is being paid approx. 12.9% higher than what I'm being paid; I got promoted a few months back (Been with the 'biz for over 4 years) and he was hired around the same time (A few months back). I learned this as we've both become good friends, and were on the topic personally and informally. Our salaries are not publically known outside of personal disclosure. My manager / HR is not aware that I know this. How do I bridge this with my employer?3
-
Why are HR so slow.
Transferring to new role, just waiting for paperwork.
Endlessly waiting for paperwork.
I can't take much more of this. -
Yeah Statler and Waldorf are my new role models. A code review in S&W style should be quite a killer, haha.

I'm a little afraid of what I'm doing. I just asked my boss to change my current role, almost on site, with a new one requested by the global function of my company. If they accept I will be traveling >80% of the time. I know I will miss my little daughters but I also know that this is maybe the last chance for a step forward in my career. I'm sharing my feelings only with my brother and devrant people.10

Is it worth getting a computer science degree after you are already in a senior role?
Or... should I just complete an open courseware course to fill in some of the gaps?2 -
Started a new role as a single handed Dev/analyst in a small company. Discovered by predecessor had left no handover notes on his (unnecessarily complex) weekly reports, or indeed on the table structure of any of the systems.
The three weeks into the role the managing director gets sent to prison!
For fraud.
I left...... quickly.1 -
Why do people who love programming/developing move to a management role other than for salary reasons? Is it just a feeling that you get at a point in your career?11

How do you define a junior/senior dev?
I've been a professional developer for about 5/6 years now.
Would taking a "junior" role be a step down? Or does the term not really matter?3 -

Anyone got any experience with offshore teams? I'm meant to be taking on the role of managing one in a month or two (yay...) Not quite sure what to expect.
All doom and gloom? Or any positive experiences?9 -
Basically, there are two types of recruiters:
1. "Hi there. After reviewing your profile, I believe you have what it takes to be a <role> in our company."
2. "Hi there. After reviewing your profile, I'm convinced that you have what we need as a <role>."
Interestingly, the former tends to ignore your response if you rejected their advance, while the latter tends to follow up with a "just reach me out if you changed your mind", or even a simple "I understand, thank you for your time".1 -
Need advice guys
Where I'm working now I'm the tech lead, but I'm not happy. I want to get deeper into infrastructure and DevOps but I have no scope for that.
I have an offer from another company. A very small raise. Supposedly will lead to tech lead in 6 months after I help them recruit a team. Offered mid. I went back and said because of uncertainty about where the role would head, and coming from where I am, I would accept the offer with the title so I have more confidence about the future of the role.
They came back with a senior role, not tech lead, saying there's no scope for that yet. They also said they envision giving me architecture control and letting me train and drive the cloud process.
But this is all heresay. I could take the role, the project is postponed, there is no team to be a tech lead for, and so no pay increase or opportunity to learn.
Opinions?6 -
A question, because we currently discussing it at work:
We want to add a permission role system and we will have kind of fixed permission roles like a role without any permissions, a support role with some permissions and an admin role with all permissions. Should I add role entries in migrations?
The role system wouldn't be very generic anymore.
But we need e.g. a default role for new users and I don't know how to do it, without a fixed role in db.
Maybe you all have an opinion on it.2 -
Does anyone have experience on just "taking" the team organizer slot? My current team meetings are just nuts. A lot of ummms and awkward silences no structure and each runs at least 100% longer than the allotted time. No preparations are made before the meetings. The oldest team member has only been with the company like 1,5 year. I crave more organization1

So a while back I was contacted by a recruiter, I wasn't interested at first but ended up interviewing and eventually took the role. Fast forward 2 months into the role I get a courtesy email asking how things are going and if I would like a call to chat.
I responded saying I didn't like the role and provided a suitable time to call. I never heard anything back until fast forward another 4 months.
Today I got a REPLY to my email where I said was not happy in the role, and what was the email about?
This guy wanted a favour as they had another candidate and wanted me to provide contact details of a manager to skip the usual HR process. -
I got a new job today! Back to a support role after being a university teacher and a contract trainer. I miss problem solving.

Guys, I want to get into a DevOps role.
I'm already looking into Linux, Terraform, Ansible and k8s.
If you are a DevOps Engineer, what kind of tooling or knowledge do I need to know before applying to companies?
Any tip is welcome and I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!9 -
Hi bad-practice, thank you for your application but unfortunately we had to conclude there is no opportunity for the role you are looking for.
They had a vacancy for frontend developer. I am frontend developer. What you mean no role?
Smells like the 33th BULLSHIT EXCUSE!2 -
!rant at all.
Finished my first week in my new DevOps Engineer role. Feels good, and I'm loving the change of pace.1 -
I'm genuinely contemplating changing my career to an IT support role from my current web dev endeavors.
I have become rather disinterested for quite some time with web development, I've been working with React, Angular, the regular Wordpress stuff with the theme building/modifying, headless instances, plugin development and whatnot and all of these have become more of a chore than anything else.
I'm leaning towards an IT support role as I genuinely have more interest in a user support/infrastructure support role than a developer role, the question is, is it doable ?. I know my way around Windows and Linux Servers, know LDAP, Active Directory, BASH, Powershell, Networking, can do cabling and whatnot but I don't have the experience to show off those.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated3 -
To stay a dev (can do the role with my eyes closed) or take on the architecture role for this company that is sinking like the titanic.
Don’t bother with the hassle (don’t need more money tbh & don’t even know what the money is)?
Take the opportunity while it’s there and get it on my cv?
🤷♂️

So... This month I will start a new role in a new company as a Tech Lead. This is my first time in this position. Any suggestions or tips from you guys are appreciated.14

Should I learn C# or Java?
There are many topics over the internet but a direct opinion from you guys would be appreciated.
I would also know, what does C# have in common with asp.NET and web application development? It isn't clear to me
Thanks18 -
How am i supposed to learn C# if Visual Studio took me 24 hours to install, now that it's installed it crashes every time i build my code, plus, it makes chrome and IE crash every 5 minutes, and it lags as shit?11

I have called for a meeting with my manager's manager expressing concerns and ask for a role change inside the company.
How should I approach this?
My current project is this some IoT stuff being built on the cloud.
The role that I was recruited for and the one I am currently doing is very different thanks to the TPTB who suddenly decided some other team in a different country (lets call them B ) take on that role.
I see a lot of trash work assigned to my team that is a consequence of lack of understanding of the cloud stuff by people upstream and not automating steps in the engineering process like build, test, deploy ( which was part of my initial role description ) and I'm not liking my current role. But my manager doesn't give a damn.
He is just happy to be involved in the project.
I feel like I am having leftovers from a fancy restaurant in spite of having enough money to dine well in the same hotel.
When I bring out the concerns like lack of automating, cost savings in the cloud, improved security configurations to my manager, he doesn't seem to care and not voicing them upstream. If I bring up these topics in any discussion where people outside my team are also there, then I am quickly sidelined.
The rest of my team also don't seem to care. They just don't want to stand up and take responsibility.1 -
Successfully moved out of my current team and got assigned in Business Analyst track of my organization. Now that I’ve joined the dark side, should I stop using DevRant? Or is it a fairly technical role as well?6
-
Rant && Question
My asshole manager got me shifted from a better team back to my original team. I didn't have any problems in that.
But now when our QA team has also completely resigned, he wants me to work both as dev as well as QA. I joined at a developer position.
All seniors in my team (Tech lead, product manager) are technichaly incompetent.
I am a fresher and don't have any other offers as of now, don't know what to do?2 -
How would you call this role? Product Owner? Graphics Designer?, Both? Neither?
I work for a small startup besides university and we do need a person responsible for how site looks. But then again we also need a product owner for the frontend. So why not combine these roles? A person who's responsable as product owner for all the frontend related bits plus does the designing. Initially this person would work with just one frontend dev, possibly more over time.
Question:
- How would you call this role/job?
- What would be an appropriate salary?
- How would you evaluate an application to this role?3 -
After investing 5 years in tech support, side by side i was learning devops, and as a result I transitioned to DevOps Engineer role. What suggestions or tech stack I should master to survive in the DevOps industry going forward?6

Hello devrant, so I've been wondering if anyone here breaks things (infosec)? Is there anyone who dabble with building stuff(dev/ops) and breaking them? Need advise whether I should be looking at a devops-y role or a infosec related role in the future. (PS I was in infosec and slowly transitioning into ops/devops not sure yet). Please share your experiences. :)8

So I work in a so called agile team of 5 people, where on of the members has the role of tester. Now this person doesn't have much technical experience, if any, in regards to coding, so the purpose of the tester is primarily to fo automated UI tests and system testing. Am I in the wrong for questioning the importance and relevance of this role, or is it just because in my previous work experience, the developers had the responsibility for testing whatever was made, and I just have to get used to this new way of working?9

A pigeon just shit on me - probably bc all of the bad vibes I’ve been spewing. I hope everyone has sex tonight. I’ll be at the party playing the role of bird. Bye.5

why the fuck do interviews ask me about architecture and shit?
the role of a normal code monkey ur hiring for probably doesnt have the code monkey making the architecture decisions
i dont make the architecture decisions in my current role either
im happy to learn, and point out if i think things are weird when encountering specifications , but goddamn fuck off5 -
I got offered a sales engineering role with a huge bump to my current salary (3x). Money is not everything to me 3 times my current salary is kind of attractive. The work is supposedly a lot more and also more stressful than my current one (software developer). In this role I would also finally be able to travel a lot more and have continuously new challenges and new projects. What is the big down side, what should I consider, why should I not do? Convince me to turn down that offer.2

Honest question:
For an open temp role, we are looking for someone that knows and used Angular 1.5 and ECMAScript 6.. yet everyone we have interviewed so far only knows up to Angular 1 and doesn't even know a new version of JavaScript came out, or have never used it before.
Are we really asking too much for someone interested in a temp role or are we just getting unqualified candidates?9 -
First job was digital agency, then full stack dev. Then.... Later found out absolutely hating to do ux ui. Very passion about backend. Agent keeps sending front end role. Want to do help desk support but no experience....

Just got a connection request from coworker in LinkedIn. Looked at his job descriptions and for his current role, it's seriously inflated.
I mean he's a decent dev but he's taking too much credit...
My guess is he's gonna be the next to resign...
So either this team will sink and get dissolved and I get reassigned... Or I need to find a new role ASAP when I get back -
If you have 10 years experience in php and apply a JavaScript role with 3 month non commercial experience. You are a junior dev or intern. At least from employee's view3

Recruiters message me on LinkedIn for team lead/senior developer role. I haven't completed 2 years in my first company which is obviously visible on my LinkedIn profile.
Why they do this? Just plain stupidity?4 -
So I've been asked if I want to take the role of scrum master along with my job as developer.. I must say that I am quite interested in taking on that role and it's responsibilities, but I'm somewhat scared by the things I read on the internet (especially when combining it as dev on that same team).
Let's hope I don't become the bad guy in this story after some time by being an a-hole of a scrum master lol4 -
Another Team: How do we do this thing? What aws role do we need?
Me: You do it like this, and I don't know the role by this guy does and all you have to do is ask him for the name of the role to assume.
AT: Ok, great.
AT: We're going to do it like this (wrong way, completely against best practices and completely against what the company architects dictate)
Me: No... thats the wrong way. Don't do it that way. That is bad, because (Reasons A, B, C). Do it the way I told you it should be done.
AT: Ok! I see thank you!
3 hrs later
AT schedules a meeting to go over options to do the thing ... including the WRONG WAY and they still haven't talked to That Guy to get the role name they need.1 -
I had an interview for a position with an initial part-time duration of 2 months.
It was a team lead role with full-time work only after two months. After some discussion about the role and the compensation, they asked me to get back with my expected salary for the part-time duration (they had a low number in mind from what I could understand as they were comparing it with my previous salary).
So considering what they were going to offer me for the full-time position, the part-time duration (3 hrs/day for two months), and the lead role, I followed up with a higher number (with some reasoning behind it) than they mentioned during the call.
I did not hear back from them after this. -

Starting a C++ developer role in a few weeks. Currently working with C, Perl and a little bit of Java. Have you got any tips for me? :)3 -
I entered my current company on January 28 and I have made a great effort. I was offered a lead role on may or july but depending on a review period. I know this period came to an end so I ask for a salary raise but they told me the following: "you are closed to the salary band limit so there is no possibility of a salary raise; the only possibility is switching to another role". So I disagreed because I considered I should be rewarded for all the effort I did these months... They came up with the idea of a bonus (they didnt told me the amount) but I still think I should hace set things clear... Like saying: There will be a review or analysis period ? Ok when it will end ?. Whats going to be decided after that ?. If a new role is considered, what will be my responsabilities ?. Because I made a huge effort considering I will be a father... And think this takes me to a place where I must still keep waiting when I know I give proof of my vslue5

I'm currently applying for an engineer role. The role is reasonably agnostic regarding specific skills which suits me well because I have a wide base and I like diversity, however they have said they are after more Java developers. Whilst I have programmed in Java and worked on Java projects I wouldn't claim any proficiency beyond amateur.
What sort of things should I really know about if the tech interview brings up Java questions? I'm not expecting them to but it would be foolish not to prepare for that eventuality. -

Do you recommend hiring junior or mid-level dev for a python role that involves mostly data transformations with pandas, growth and marketing projects like social media bots, consuming APIs for data and some experience with Azure SQL db? I’m worried if we hire too senior then they will leave as the role doesn’t involve any advanced software engineering, like caches, web apps, rest apis, etc. It’s more of a handyman that can automate and hack a solution to a business problem: for example, learning openCV to automatically crop thousands of images extracting only the text3

What are the requisites to become a software architect??
Does experience really matters or anyone who is good in one full tech stack and more keen in learning new can do justice to the role??
Thoughts??? -
Does a role reassignment necessarily mean I am on the chopping block/going to be laid off? I was hired as a Junior Software Architect and I ended up doing more infrastructure work (think DevOps) but I wanted to do more actual C++ coding. An email was sent out to the manager/HR by my supervisor and I think for the most part I will still retain the same title - the email just states what my next tasks are (knowledge transfer to other employees) and what my new role will be.
