If Windows 10 auto changes my keyboard to US one more fucking time I'm going to move it off my PC on to an external HDD and fuck it in a fucking volcano before moving to Linux.

SORT YOUR SHIT OUT WINDOWS, I'M CLEARLY IN THE FUCKING UK.

In language settings remove the US keyboard as an option.

If the option is there because you have another computer using the US keyboard go to User sync settings and tell it not to sync keyboard languages.

I had this crap happen to me cause my surface book is US.

Just setup the damn language, it's not that hard, also, if you happen to have more than 1 keyboard, just press Windows+Space to switch

You're tapping shift 5 times in a row? It'll change your language. Can be disabled 😊 (should be disabled by default IMHO)

Bottom right hand corner, change language options. Jeeze.

Ditch Windows. Microsoft doesn't deserve our support

    @ReturnVoid Bandwagon blues.

I'd just rather use a product developed by people who respect the end user. Windows is not that product

Move to Linux already and get it over with. You won't regret it...much. But if you're a designer then you probably shouldn't since we have no Photoshop here. Gimp doesn't count, sorry.

@apex I avoid Windows as much as possible but I think the keyboard layout was per app/window.
So it is a PITA if this wrong and you start programs without noticing.

    Windows stuff... 😂

@Bluehorn Yeah, it's per app, but you can setup the locale/keyboard layout to only one and you're ready to go.

And before this thread becomes the classic OS vs OS, remember, you can try to pry open a can with your bare hands, but a can opener is best suited. There are no better than, just better for a work 😉

Why does Windows keep switching my keyboard from US - International to US, even though I don't even have US installed?
  • 1
Almost two years since the original post and the issue is still happening.

I'm in the US, but I use Bulgarian and Portuguese keyboards at various times, so I set them up in language preferences. Well ... sometimes Windows 10 just switches out of my Portuguese layout while I'm typing something in Portuguese (I'm still usin' it ...), or it switches to some bastardized meta-state of Portuguese with a Bulgarian keyboard layout (never set up such an option, but it saw fit to generate it on its own). Worse, the proposed workaround on the internet is to uninstall one of the languages (what!?). So I did that, and it still didn't solve the issue! On top of it all, the keyboard switch shortcuts (Alt-Shift) randomly stop working. Really frustrating!

@githelp Created account to devrant just to express how retarded this is. Freaken after every restart. Didn't use to be like that earlier, at some point it started resetting it to US
