* First anniversary of devRant unofficial for Windows 10 (UWP)!
* Let's celebrate by giving me 500 ++'s 😁
Exactly 1 year ago, on 18 May 2016, I released the first public version (v0.9.2.0 BETA) of my client for Windows 10 users.
I found this wonderful community a few days before, on 12 May 2016, thanks to an article on TNW.
The only flaw was the missing Windows 10 Mobile client for my Lumia 950, so I decided to create a simple one on my own that initially allowed you only to see the list of rants, without the ability interact with them.
A few days later, after spamming the app on twitter, I was reached by @dfox, a very kind person, who gave me all necessary tools and help to bring all official features to Windows 10 users.
A project that I created initially just for fun and necessity became the main project I'm working at in a very short time.
I received a lot of positive reviews from users that motivated me to improve and continue it.
It's true, Windows 10/Windows 10 Mobile users are few, but they appreciate your work as no other and with a lot of feedbacks and suggestions help you to improve it making it very satisfying.
I would like to thank @dfox who made this possible, my friend @thmnmlst who helped me a lot with precious advices and created the presentation below, and of course the whole Windows 10 community! 😉
If you haven't tried it yet: https://microsoft.com/store/apps/...
For all updates follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/JakubSOfficial
The v2 is coming... sorry for the delay, below a little preview (alpha) to be forgiven. 😋38
When a sales person at a computer store says: I can remove ur chinese OS and install windows 10 for u.
*I'm runing fedora OS*
should i kick his face?24
Me: I'm done working for today, let's pack up and go home !
Me: You better fucking not-
Windows: Installing update 1 of 893...11
Restart is required to install updates. "hmm shouldn't take much"

#PC is still updating7
// devRant unofficial UWP update (v2.0.0-beta)
After several concepts, about 11 months of development (keep in mind that I released 20 updates for v1 in the meantime, so it wasn't a continous 11 months long development process) and a short closed beta phase, v2 is now available for everyone (as public beta)! :)
I tried to improve the app in every aspect, from finally responsive and good looking UI on Desktop version to backend performance improvements, which means that I almost coded it from scratch.
There are also of course a few new features (like "go to bottom" in rants), and more to come.
It's a very huge update, and unfortunately to move forward, improve the UI (add Fluent Design) and make it at the same level of new UWP apps, I was forced to drop the supported for these old Windows 10 builds:
- Threshold 1 (10240)
- Threshold 2 (10586)
Too many incompatiblity issues with the new UI, and for 1 person with a lot of other commitments outside this project (made for free, just for passion), it's impossible to work at 3 parallel versions of the same app.
I already done something like that during these 11 months (every single of the 20 updates for v1 needed to be implemented a second time for v2).
During the closed beta tests, thanks to the awesome testers who helped me way too much than I ever wished, I found out that there are already incompatiblity issues with Anniversary Update, which means that I will support two versions:
1) One for Creators Update and newer builds.
2) One for Anniversary Update (same features, but missing Fluent Design since it doesn't work on that OS version, and almost completly rewritten XAML styles).
For this reason v2 public beta is out now for Creators Update (and newer) as regular update, and will be out in a near future (can't say when) also for the Anniversary Update.
The users with older OS versions (problem which on PC could be solved in 1-2 days, just download updates) can download only the v1.5.9 (which probably won't be supported with new updates anymore, except for particular critcal bug fixes).
So if you have Windows 10 on PC and want to use v2 today, just be sure you have Creators Update or Fall Creators Update.
If you have Windows 10 PC with Anniversary Update, update it, or if you don't want to do that, wait a few weeks/months for the update with support for your build.
If you have an older version on PC, update it, or enjoy v1.5.9.
If you have Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update, update it (if it's possible for your device), or just wait a few weeks/months for the update with support for your build.
If you have Windows 10 Mobile, and because of Microsoft stupid policy, you can't update to Anniversary Update, enjoy v1.5.9, or try the "unofficial" method (registry hack) to update to a newer build.
I hope it's enough clear why not everyone can receive the update today, or at all. :P
Now I would like to thank a few people who made this possible.
As always, @dfox who is always available for help me with API implementations.
@thmnmlist, who helped me a lot during this period with really great UI suggestions (just check out his twitter, it's a really good person, friend, designer and artist: https://twitter.com/thmnmlist).
And of course everyone of the closed beta testers, that reported bugs and precious suggestions (some of them already implemented, others will arrive soon).
The order is random:
Changelog of v2.0.0-beta:
- New UI with Fluent Design and huge improvements for Desktop;
- Added native support for Fall Creators Update (Build 16299);
- Changed minimum supported version to Creators Update (Build 15063), support for Anniversary Update (Build 14393) will arrive soon;
- Added mouse support for Pull-To-Refresh;
- Added ability to change your username and email;
- Added ability to filter (by 'Day', 'Week', 'Month' and 'All') the top Rants;
- Added ability to open rant links in-app;
- Added ability to zoom GIFs (just tap on them in the Rant View);
- Added 'go to bottom' button in the Rant View (if more than 3 comments);
- Added new theme ('Total Black');
- ...complete changelog in-app and on my website (can't post it here because of the 5000 characters limit)...
What will arrive in future updates:
- 'Active Discussions' screen so you can easily find rants that have recent comments/discussions;
- Support for 'Collabs';
- Push Notifications (it was postponed and announced too many times...);
- More themes and themes options;
- and more...
If you still didn't download devRant unofficial UWP, do it now: https://microsoft.com/store/apps/...
If you find some bugs or you have feature suggestion, post it on the Issue Tracker on GitHub (thanks in advance for your help!): https://github.com/JakubSteplowski/...
I hope you will enjoy it! ;)55
Conversation in (not so far) future:
Me: Sorry boss, I can't get to work this morning. My car is updating. Automatically.
Boss: Oh you have that Windows 10 car, you can work from home today.
Me: Boss, but my computer...
Boss: Oh, okay it can wait till tomorrow.5
Windows 10!! WHAT THE FUCKING WHAT do you think you're doing?? Why am I getting a message saying admin has blocked my access to Services when I AM THE FUCKING ADMIN! And I sure as hell didn't block me!!!!!!!!17
Windows 10 once again held my computer at ransom! When it finally came around after the update, all it really seem to do is place Edge back on my task bar. No... Bad Microsoft, I don't use or want Edge.7
Our lecturer got BSOD on win10.
Around 150 students present.
80% of them woke up just to laugh at it.
Saw my uncle using Microsoft Edge today.
Me: Uncle, you should use Chrome or Firefox. They are better.
Uncle: Windows 10 showed a pop up few days back that chrome drains battery faster. So I uninstalled chrome.
Me: But Windows is fooling you to use its product. Edge is horrible and useless.
Uncle: So you think you are smarter than Windows people? Are they idiots who designed this whole software?
Microsoft u got 1 more Edge user. Enjoy, you lying and misleading company.32
OMG you guys weren't kidding. Windows 10 sucks. I finally understand why no one uses it anymore. I heard the Linux brand is very good.56
Life with Windows 10:
An absolute nightmare. My oven doesn't work, Washing machine started rattling, toaster toasted more than it was supposed to toast. Every time windows updates it restarts my TV in my living room.
Then I met my neighbour. He lives a very happy life. I always wanted to know his secret ingredients.
One day I invited him to my house and he saw my Windows machine. He immediately insisted that I install Linux so that I can be happy and cool like him.
And that's the day my life changed. My oven started to bake beautifully, my washing machine was spinning at full speed.
Linux changed my life. I'm now part of the cool kids. Everyone loves me, embraces me.
Is your life hard? Are you not being noticed by other cool boys/girls? Are you having pain in your back? Remember:
Whatever bad happens, it's Windows 10's fault.9
The new version of the (unofficial) client for Windows 10 mobile is now available! 😁
devRant unofficial (previously devFeed) has been updated to v188.8.131.52 and came out of beta! Over 40 changes since v0.9.10.0 beta.
For those who think that no one uses Windows 10 mobile, the latest version has been downloaded 460+ times! 😉41
Cool, I didn't know you could (still?) activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 key, but it works.
Beating this piece of shit into a dual boot setup with Linux Mint is really annoying, though.
Fuck it, I'm gonna have some fun wanking furiously to the FPS counter in DOOM first, hahaha!
I hate Windows, though. I wish all PC games would support Linux out of the box. But, well …17
Windows 10 Notification Centre:
"You have a Java update available, click here to install."
Meh. I'll just pretend it's installing silently in the background.2
Although it might not get much follow up stuffs (probably a few fines but that will be about it), I still find this awesome.
The part of the Dutch government which keeps an eye on data leaks, how companies handle personal data, if companies comply with data protection/privacy laws etc (referring to it as AP from now on) finished their investigation into Windows 10. They started it because of privacy concerns from a few people about the data collection Microsoft does through Windows 10.
It's funny that whenever operating systems are brought up (or privacy/security) and we get to why I don't 'just' use windows 10 (that's actually something I'm asked sometimes), when I tell that it's for a big part due to privacy reasons, people always go into 'it's not that bad', 'oh well as long as it's lawful', 'but it isn't illegal, right!'.
Well, that changed today (for the netherlands).
AP has concluded that Windows 10 is not complying with the dutch privacy and personal data protection law.
I'm going to quote this one (trying my best to translate):
"It appears that Microsofts operating system follows every step you take on your computer. That gives a very invasive image of you", "What does that mean? do people know that, do they want that? Microsoft should give people a fair chance for deciding this by themselves".
They also say that unless explicit lawful consent is given (with enough information on what is collected, for what reasons and what it can be used for), Microsoft is, according to law, not allowed to collect their telemetrics through windows 10.
"But you can turn it off yourself!" - True, but as the paragraph above said, the dutch law requires that people are given more than enough information to decide what happens to their data, and, collection is now allowed until explicitly/lawfully ok'd where the person consenting has had enough information in order to make a well educated decision.
I'm really happy about this!
Source (dutch, sorry, only found it on a dutch (well respected) security site): https://security.nl/posting/534981/...9
Windows 10 is asking me if I want to put my 5-8kg desktop computer in flight mode.
I'm now picturing my self looking for a power socket needing 650w in a airplane3
Prepare to get your MIND BLOWN:
They have successfully got Windows 10 ARM to boot on a Raspberry Pi 3 with a hacked UEFI firmware!
Take that Windows 10 IoT!!
Props to these guys: 👍
Here's a video of it in action → https://youtu.be/6b1IxvKJeho?t=9417
WTF Windows 10?
I try to open Mozilla Firefox and it takes 4 fucking minutes. Chrome took 6 minutes. I end up giving up and and using Microsoft edge because I had to submit something online and my battery was about to die, and what do you know. Edge opens in less than 5 seconds.
What's your problem, are you jealous or something? Do you know how painful it is using Edge? Its like pouring salt into your eyes while staring at the sun.
Fuck you Windows 10, fuck. You.26
If Windows 10 auto changes my keyboard to US one more fucking time I'm going to move it off my PC on to an external HDD and fuck it in a fucking volcano before moving to Linux.
SORT YOUR SHIT OUT WINDOWS, I'M CLEARLY IN THE FUCKING UK.
// devRant unofficial UWP update (v1.5.6)
A new update for Windows 10 users is in certification right now (will be available in a few hours/days), with the new feature you could see a few days ago on the official client.
But the main reason of this post is that I've seen the success of the official Issue Tracker created in August by @dfox and @trogus on GitHub.
For this reason I decided to do the same for the unofficial client.
Feel free to post bugs reports (I prefer this method instead of emails) and requests of features (even if not available in the official client) you would like to see.
Complete changelog of v1.5.6:
- Added new 'post type' selector for easier classification of rant types in the future;
- Added Official devRant unofficial Issue Tracker on GitHub;
- Added Feedback page with link to GitHub Issue Tracker repo;
- Added black theme... no, wait... already there.
- Minor UI improvements;
- Minor back-end improvements;
I hope to see a lot of interesting feature requests I will enjoy to implement to make the UWP client always the best for you, Windows community. 😁18
Windows 10 S 😂😂😂😂😂😂☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️😂☠️☠️😂
Really Microsoft...just when I started to have faith in you again!18
// devRant unofficial UWP update
Hi to all Windows 10 users of my app (if you're not, it's never too late to improve yourself).
I really appreciate all your feedbacks on Microsoft Store and via email!
I'm working really hard on v2 to release it as soon as possible.
Since I'm alone and I have a lot of other commitments (university, sleeping, holidays), I would like to release a closed BETA for all users who want to test the new version and send feedbacks, bugs reports.
All you need to do to join the BETA is filling this form (https://jakubsteplowski.com/en/...) by September 15th.
I'm planning to release 3 BETA builds (this could change):
- v2 BETA 1: September
- v2 BETA 2: October
- v2 BETA 3: November
- v2 Stable: November/December
During the BETA phase you will receive the BETA builds as normal updates from the Microsoft Store, after the BETA you will start to receive the stable builds as all users.
Of course you can resign to be a BETA tester at anytime by contacting me.
Anyone who will join the BETA will be added to the "Special thanks" section in about.
Thanks in advance for your help! 😊54
Windows 10 deletes files so slowly that inadvertently it gives the impression that it's secretly sending data to three/four-letter organisations instead of the trash4
Requires windows 10 anniversary or later... So let use photo's that show it installing on vista...
Well done Adobe.9
Microsoft, if I click the "Update and shut down" button it means I want you to update and shut down, not do a third of the update, shut down then wait for me to turn the computer back on for you to finish! Why can't it just do the update, reboot as necessary then shut down once it's all done?3
My new workstation. i7-4790k, MSI h81m-p33, 16gb DDR3, AORUS RX580, ADATA 128gb SSD, WD 1tb Black Drive, CoolerMaster V1000 1000W PSU.
OS: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS and Windows 10 Pro17
I bypassed the Windows Store bug (error 0x8024000E) releasing it as a new app (not as an update).
Now you can find it on the Windows Store as "devRant unofficial UWP".
- PC & Holographic support
I worked hard to bring the best devRant experience possible to Windows 10, I hope you enjoy it! :)
Just trying to use Visual Studio community 2017
1. Download vs 2017
2. Wait ten years to install
3. Still waiting...
4. Finally installed, but wait you have wrong version of Windows 10.
5. Find correct version of Windows 10
8. Verify install
9. Restart a billion times
Step infinity still waiting...
This better work windows 1029
so my university just updated ALL of their PCs to Windows 10 and every time I log in......
"We're preparing some things for you"
*5 mins later*
"This may take a while"11
// devRant unofficial UWP update (v184.108.40.206)
devRant++ badges and extended rants and comments editing time (up to 30 mins for subscribers) are available also on Windows 10.
To subscribe you still need (I hope only for now) the official Android or iOS app.
But if someone is using also the PC Windows 10 version maybe is happy to see that. 😉
Win10 shell has ssh? Oh boi, let's try that out.
> help ssh
This command is not supported by the help utility. Try "ssh/?".
> ssh /?
ssh: Could not resolve hostname /?: Name or service not known.
Today a friend of mine kinda broke windows
There are 4 desktop instances, all of them "work" perfectly fine. Partly overlapping eachother2
Not just another Windows rant:
*Disclaimer* : I'm a full time Linux user for dev work having switched from Windows a couple of years ago. Only open Windows for Photoshop (or games) or when I fuck up my Linux install (Arch user) because I get too adventurous (don't we all)
I have hated Windows 10 from day 1 for being a rebel. Automatic updates and generally so many bugs (specially the 100% disk usage on boot for idk how long) really sucked.
It's got ads now and it's generally much slower than probably a Windows 8 install..
The pathetic memory management and the overall slower interface really ticks me off. I'm trying to work and get access to web services and all I get is hangups.
Chrome is my go-to browser for everything and the experience is sub par. We all know it gobbles up RAM but even more on Windows.
My Linux install on the same computer flies with a heavy project open in Android Studio, 25+ tabs in Chrome and a 1080p video playing in the background.
Up until the creators update, UI bugs were a common sight. Things would just stop working if you clicked them multiple times.
But you know what I'm tired of more?
The ignorant pricks who bash it for being Windows. This OS isn't bad. Sure it's not Linux or MacOS but it stands strong.
You are just bashing it because it's not developer friendly and it's not. It never advertises itself like that.
It's a full fledged OS for everyone. It's not dev friendly but you can make it as much as possible but you're lazy.
People do use Windows to code. If you don't know that, you're ignorant. They also make a living by using Windows all day. How bout tha?
But it tries to make you feel comfortable with the recent bash integration and the plethora of tools that Microsoft builds.
IIS may not be Apache or Nginx but it gets the job done.
Azure uses Windows and it's one of best web services out there. It's freaking amazing with dead simple docs to get up and running with a web app in 10 minutes.
I saw many rants against VS but you know it's one of the best IDEs out there and it runs the best on Windows (for me, at least).
I'm pissed at you - you blind hater you.
Research and appreciate the things good qualities in something instead of trying to be the cool but ignorant dev who codes with Linux/Mac but doesn't know shit about the advantages they offer.26
I thought I try to install windows XP and go thru the upgrades in a virtual machine. I will install every update for that version of Windows and then proceed to upgrade to the next version.
XP => Vista => 7 => 8 => 8.1 => 10
I'll was going to do the very first windows but, I had an XP install disk, so I am starting with that.45
That moment when you have important programs running in Windows 10 (Including an Ubuntu virtual machine) and Windows decides to just reboot, without permission for updates.13
We have a ver crappy Internet connection at my office (I believe it's 100Mb/s for 50 people to share), so when somebody starts downloading a big file they pretty much hijack all the available bandwidth and fuck up everybody else.
Now, we have ONE, just ONE SINGLE FUCKING COMPUTER RUNNING FUCKING WINDOWS 10 AND EVERY WEEK IT FUCKS UP THE ENTIRE OFFICE'S INTERNET CONNECTION WITH ITS STUPID FUCKING UNCANCELLABLE MANDATORY UPDATES.
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT.9
I find it annoying how Microsoft only lets you have 12 hours maximum as your active hours, I'm usually on my laptop for more that 12 hours6
The rant filters are now available also on Windows 10 (on Desktop, Mobile, HoloLens, Xbox One and Surface Hub | Anniversary Update and later)!
What kind of person doesn’t install Windows 10 for a free pre-installation of Candy Crush Soda Saga thrown into the mix? I really enjoy it when my Operating System comes preloaded with bullshit. It’s almost as if I’m losing rights to choose what I want installed on my operating system. It’s really enjoyable when Candy Crush Soda Saga appears in the background in task manager despite never opening this “””game”””. I find it amazing that after building such a powerful computer I can know that my fast 16gb ram is being used to keep bloatware running in the background. Every night I dream of the people who buy new computers with a fresh copy of Windows 10 pre-installed on it to find it has a copy of Candy Crush Soda Saga already waiting to be played! The joy and tears that must come to such a persons eye to know that Bill Gates was kind enough to bless the world with every middle-aged persons favourite game, Candy Crush Soda Saga, to be the first app that appears on their start menu. The thoughts running through every developers mind at Microsoft as they pre-load a copy of Candy Crush Soda Saga onto every copy of Windows 10. They must really feel alive and definitely would not consider doing anything else for a living but copying the files of Candy Crush Soda Saga across onto Official Windows 10 Installations. The rush of blood into their mind as they know that thousands, if not millions, of users from around the world open their brand new computer for the first time to see that King managed to bribe Microsoft with more money that you’ll ever get your hands onto into making them add a free copy of Candy Crush Soda Saga onto their computer. As thousands of those users move their mouse over this work of art, right click it and press uninstall without a second of doubt in their mind, rendering Kings investment to be a waste of time, money and effort. This is a story we will tell for generations and generations in the future of how the worlds most popular Operating System was not preloaded with a free copy of McAfee, but instead a copy of Candy Crush Soda Saga for the entire world to rejoice. Good day to you all.12
Lets have a talk Windows. Why did you open Edge when I set my default browser to Chrome? I am very disappointed in you.
Do you guys know about the Windows 10 operating system?
I highly recommend it.
It is so easy to get done whatever you want in just a few clicks or.. several.
It has a great web browser called Internet Explorer that comes pre-installed with it. If you love animations, it will even sometimes show you that beautiful loading animation for as long as it wants. If you have a habit of wasting time on the Internet, it will intelligently slow things down and become unresponsive to help you get rid of that bad habit. It's just that great.
It has a lot of great features pre-enabled for you like sending data to Microsoft to improve your experience on a personal level. The operating system cares so much about you, unlike other operating systems that represent a flightless bird.
It's so smart, it even keeps you from doing stupid things like customizing the operating system. It makes sure that you live in the given box and don't break anything. So caring, right?!
At random times, it shows you a blue screen and a sad face to remind you that life can be sad at times but you gotta keep going. It is profound.
It comes with great useless software that you absolutely don't even need! How great is that!
I use Windows 10 and I recommend that you do too.
Have a good day..22
Today is the day. Dumping Windows 10 for Linux. Fuck that shit. I have been using windows since forever, but right now me and Windows are over. So, windows, I'd like you to take your shitty out of nowhere error messages and fuck off. Since yesterday the OS was stable BUT NO YOU HAD TO SELF-DESTRUCT. WINDOWS EXPLORER SUDDENLY DECIDED NOT TO WORK. THE DRIVER OF MY WIFI ADAPTER SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY(WTF) AND MY HARD DISK STARTED SPINNING LIKE CRAZY. AND GUESS WHAT WINDOWS. GUESS WHAT. WHEN I CHANGED TO LINUX EVERYTHING WAS FUCKING BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN! FIX. YOUR. SHIT. I. DONT. CARE. THAT. YOU. GAVE. IT. TO. ME. FOR. "FREE". SHOW SOME RESPECT FFS!!!
p.s uhm, sorry to bother you, is there any linux distro you would recommend? First time using linux...Yes. I'm pathetic.11
Seriously, Ubuntu can go burn in hell far as I care.
I've spent the better part of my morning attempting to set it up to run with the correct Nvidia drivers, Cuda and various other packages I need for my ML-Thesis.
After countless random freezes, updates,. Downgrades and god-knows-what, I'm going back to Windows 10 (yes, you read that right). It's not perfect but at least I don't have to battle with my laptop to get it running. The only thing which REALLY bothers me about it is the lack of GPU pass-through, meaning running local docker containers rely solely on the CPU. In itself not a huge issue if only I didn't NEED THE GOD DAMN GPU FOR THE TRAINING22
I found a weird registry key while installing Windows 10 in the registry editor. Does this key have an actual purpose?6
Windows 10 "update" just broke itself... I can't wait for game companies to start building more games for Linux so I don't have to spend my free time fixing my spywar... I mean operating system11
Hey! You there!
Are you sick of windows 10 sending you intrusive reminders about updates? Are you tired of random unscheduled restarts? Tired of feeling like you have no control over your own computer?
Take back control!
DO THE FUCKING UPDATE, YOU FUCKING INCOMPETENT, USELESS, LAZY, PIECE OF DRY WANK!
Seriously guys: pick a time convenient to you, and take 5 or 10 minutes (when you're likely spending hours at your computer), and do them. Not only will you get rid of the annoying notifications, but you'll also keep your pc safe and secure by keeping up with security patches. C'mon people, it's really not that difficult.
And can we please, for the love of all things holy, stop the circlejerking? You're developers, you are the computer proficient. The only things a PC will do are the things you tell it to do. Dig deep, dig into the registry, dig into the services manager, dig into the fucking settings cos a good number of the most common complaints can be fixed in the basic options menu. Tell your computer to stop doing the things you don't like and it will stop.
It's really not hard!29
Disable Windows 10 Auto Updates
1. Run gpedit.msc
2. Set "notify for download and notify for install" according to this screenshot http://i.imgur.com/VjpeDHWh.jpg
3. You will still get an annoying popup saying "get updates" but windows will never autoinstall them and autorestart your machine.13
I am working on my laptop, listening to some music and then... Suddenly the system gets stuck... Forced shutdown the system...
Fuck you windows 10!!!!!!!! Goddamn it!!!
Really hope I dont have to reinstall everything from ground 😣😣😡😡😡9
Windows: "LOL, NOPE!"
The irony in this rant is that I just installed Linux in a dualboot environment and was eager to start setting up the new OS. For some reason, Grub was not recognized and Windows started automatically... 😥6
Serious considering wiping the Windows 10 partition on my computer.
Only thing keeping me from doing it is the Adobe Suite. Damn it.
If only they made it for Linux, life would be such a blessing.
P.S. : GIMP is not a replacement.16
I never got a BSOD on my Windows 10!
I am getting a freeze like every 3 hours...
Fuck you Windows 10 and your fucking mandatory updates that fuckes up every fucking time! Fuck you and your fucking inability to update beyond 71 fucking percent! This is the last fucking time you waste my time, your fucking out! Fuck you!!!12
Windows 10 now let's you step through a options menu, which shows automatically after the new update, to select which kind of tracking you want to have. This makes it way more transparent for not tech savy people:)11
Windows 10 loves to freeze... especially when I wrote more than 200 lines of code and I'm pointing the cursor on the Save icon!
Thanks MS, you know how to give me a heart attack.13
STOP. FUCKING. REINSTALLING. BROKEN. NVIDIA DRIVERS. WINDOWS 10.
DIE IN A FUCKING PIT OF FIRE I CAN’T EVEN WATCH A YOUTUBE VIDEO UNDER 1 FPS1
Windows 10 has just decided to reboot my notebook during the installation of Qt... because the updates are more important...
So Microsoft, you tell me that there is a known bug, if you have Windows 10 with the newest update installed on a SSD and Apps running on another hard drive?! And this bugs causes random freezes of the whole PC from time to time?
WHAT THE FUCK?!
It is a common setup nowadays to have a SSD with windows 10 and software on other hard drives and you didn't care to check it before releasing the update? Which I HAVE to download and install?
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT!8
The app I'm using right now... devRant unofficial UWP.
It started by chance, I wanted since years to release an app for Windows 10, but never something like this.
I found devRant in 2016 and I just wanted to use it on my Lumia 950, so I opened Visual Studio and created a very simple client to get data from the web version.
After a few builds I decided to release it on the Microsoft Store as "devFeed (Beta)" (a bit later renamed to "devRant unofficial UWP").
Today, after almost 2 years, thanks to the huge support from @dfox and all the users, I'm releasing the 55th update. 😁
Biggest thing that pisses me off about windows 10 is the fact that they do not give two shits about wasting your internet, and they try to hide everything in obscure split settings, set updates to happen at a specific time sure but did your dumb ass remember to disable downloading app updates in the store? Probably not.
Heck how about we preload apps for you because you are on mobile aren't you, we know it is a desktop but we would really love to be the next android so here you go have apps all the apps.
Instead of being the foundation for things you actually intend to install we want to also give you a sample fucking 200 level tower that will take forever to demolish so you can start building the cozy cottage you do want.
I am digressing , but final thought is just that Windows can be a 1gb install since the rest of the shit is what fucktards that use a Samsung S8 just to facebook want.
The only reason I ever switched to windows 10 was because I only use it for gaming and because DX12 would only get support for win10.
Then I realized: DX12 has been out for almost 3 years and there's only about 30 games that support it. There's only a handful of games that require it (which are of course Microsoft games I'm never going to play). I did some research and apparently most games even perform worse when running in DX12 mode.
I have been using win10 against my will this whole time now... 🤦🏼♂️4
The new version of the (unofficial) client (now UWP and with "Stories") for Windows 10 is here... but I can't release it due to a Microsoft Store bug... 😢
Hope to see a Microsoft fix soon, because I can't wait to share it with you! 😝5
*installing linux on my mini laptop*
- Dad: "you should make a backup image of windows 10"
- Me: "LOL NOPE!"
(With 2gb of ram, linux makes it the perfect lightweight coding machine. But with W10? Jesus christ)6
All I want for Christmas is.... for Windows 10 search bar to respond and work in a reasonable amount of time and not suck so much.4
Wanted to play a new game this WE.
It's quite demanding so decide to boot into Windows, because NVIDIA driver support.
Haven't booted Windows 10 in a month so I start early in the morning to do the updates.
After about 3 hours all Windows and steam updates were installed and I finally start the game.
I play for a couple of hours until suddenly - blue screen
I rebooted and was faced with another blue screen right after the Windows logo. Didn't even reach the login screen.
So here I am with a Windows install that is stuck in a boot - blue screen - boot - system repair - blue screen loop and a shitty gaming WE.
Friend found a crappy netbook and asked me to set it up... With Windows 10... I'd normally tell him to boil his head, but he's a good friend.
So I told him Lubuntu or similar would be a lot better because it's got 1GB DDR2 and a Celeron. Nope, adamant on Windows.
I give in, get him a license key and install it. As I expected, it ran like shit. I showed him, he gave in and said I can install Linux.
Went for Lubuntu, he hates it and doesn't want it.
He called a pawn shop and asked how much it'd be. They said it needs Windows (?!?).
Guess what he's just asked me. Gormless twat.12
Only 1 chrome tab open, why so many processes in Task Manager. Should I tell him to format it?16
Windows: new update!
Me: *clicks on shutdown and update*
Windows: actually I didn't finished yesterdays update hold on lol2
It hurts if you see this on Google Analytics for a Windows 10 UWP app!!
Google, I know you hate MS. Why do you have to show it on me??!!😢😢4
Yesterday I had to start the windows 10 partition on my work laptop in order to use a shitty conference call software that works only on Windows. Windows decided that it was time to upgrade the system without asking me, so it deleted grub from the MBR, and destroyed my Linux partition (I had to recover it from a backup sector and it was full of errors).
Result: I wasted my morning fixing the laptop.
Thank you Microsoft.
I'm done win10. Was updating 5 different games when windows restarts without having said anything yey let's update those 10 gb again. F*ck you windows14
Holy Shit! I had no idea legit Windows 10 Pro was available for mere $25 !!
I've been living in a cave all this time. On all other sites, it costs ~ $200
Go play asia if you need one.17
Windows 10 likes to set my Temp variables back to C after an update, as well as enabling Superfetch and Prefetch. I made a batch file fixing all that shit...1
Me: *tries to deactivate windows 10 feedback*
Windows: nope *turns it back on*
Me: *Feels sorry for shitty quality*2
TIL I can run Linux commands in Powershell. I don't know what I did. I didn't realize that I was in Powershell instead of WSL. But only to a few commands though. Can't run uname, free, top or other system like commands so far. Must be part of some Windows 10 update that I missed.8
Ok dev's, im proposing a small movement for windows 10 mobile, if you have used windows 10 mobile personally, you will know it is actually a fantastic operating system that is super snappy and easy to develop for (No i'm not a microsoft fan boy, far from actually).
The only downfall of the OS is the app support, so im proposing devs come together and create quality apps and games for win 10 mobile.
Hopefully this can sort of persuade others into a revolution of sorts (And hopefully change microsofts mind of abandoning it), I personally will support windows 10 mobile for every game I create, within reason.18
To be fair I'm actually grateful for Windows 10! If it had never frustrated me the way it did I wouldn't have seriously tried out any linux distro as a daily driver 😂2
When you just want to reboot but Windows decides to do this for 20 minutes.
Windows is the best OS :^)5
If anyone is using the fall creators update of Windows 10 and wondering why they are not receiving notifications from devRantron, it's a known problem with Electron and Windows 10 FCU.
I will update the app again once the issue in Electron has been fixed.
I also recently released an update which fixes the "Post Comment" textarea becoming out of focus when you receive a new notifications. And some other bugfixes as well.3
STOP THE PRESS. Windows 10 Creators Update to allow more control over automatic restarts.
Now everyone please shut the fuck up about this shit.15
Before everyone starts saying that I should switch to Linux, I prefer Windows as my primary OS and Linux as a secondary OS.
Anyways, I updated my Windows a few days ago and ever since, instead of fucking shutting down it acts like it goes into hibernation. If I tell you to shut down, that means to shut down, not save everything and reopen everything when I turn you back on.
Besides that, why the fuck is it trying to install some Canon printer driver, that I don't even have! Thus leading it to fail every god time I turn off my PC, and then it says "Updates failed to install."
Seriously, had no problem with Windows until a few days ago. Simple terms, fuck Microsoft right now.6
Countdown has begun! July 29 is the last day we see this f***ing dialog. Bye bye annoying Windows 10 update.12
Me using Windows 10:
- Bluetooth device doesn't remove when clicking the remove button
- I try to remove it elsewhere by going to the Device Manager
- *Device Manager does not respond*
- *Nothing responds anymore*
- I try to restart my computer, restarting takes an hour
- Computer finally starts up
- Bluetooth device now has a different name
- Removing the device works
A task that should only take 3 seconds, took about 65 minutes for this OS. Fuck my life, and most of all, fuck Windows3
So much windows 10 updating rants. I have w10 aside with Fedora. I believe that last time I started windows somewhere in June. I'm really intrigued to see those updates on my laptop. Going to boot into Windows now. Wish me luck.11
For the first time that I can remember I see ordinary people everywhere are unhappy with windows. In XP through win8 days I'd see people complaining about one crash here or there, but most of the times you had to be more experienced to notice why windows sucks.
Now, this week I already heard three complaints of people wanting to back to windows 7.
And I feel so happy... I feel waves of joy growing in me, as I burst in a sarcastic, obscure laughter.
Because somewhere deep inside I hate windows.
Not becausebthe great amounts of frustration I used to have with it. But because it's so crazy I don't even consider it an OS, but rather a patchwork.
Microsoft's code base must be so fucked up they don't even know what to it with anymore.
That's my idea at least.
Buy it's good to see ordinary people are getting fed up of windows. This might be a way one of my dreams will come true, the day which Microsoft will not be able to maintain Windows anymore, and I think it's not more than ten years until we reach this day.
As a final result, if one day windows really gets to die, I want to be present, but not unnarmed, so I can shoot it at least 15 times, just to make sure this piece of crap is already dead.
Anyone else stuck with Winblows for the moment and want a killer minimal wallpaper? I made this yesterday and I'm pretty happy with it.
>Installed Windows 10 Insider Build
>Opened Android Studio

To all those whining about sudden windows 10 update, or don't want to update their windows, please go to
Administrative tools->services->Disable windows update.
Enough of blue screens in my devRant feed.4
I think it's about time I Dual booted my Home PC with Windows 10 and Ubuntu GNOME. Been living the Windows exclusive life for to long.
It's all about having options.10
That feeling, when you successfully install Win 10 into a VM with pci passthrough for games, because of trust issues.
P.S. It works 😃😃😃 on arch installed windows 10 and using synergy for a “KM”12
There's a lot of complaints about Windows 10 and it's updates and everyone bashing them.
Does nobody turn off their computer at night?
It installs my updates during the night for me and it even wakes up if needed to do so. I have never looked at my update screen when rebooting or turning my computer on, ever since I have Windows 10 freshly installed... Only exception is the Anniversary Update. So I don't see a reason why everyone hates it so much...
Am I just that lucky or what?11
Back when Microsoft was in your face about updating to Windows 10, my friend decided to update his *brand new*<(key word) laptop to Windows 10. Soon after the update he was getting an error message saying that his graphics card is missing. 😐2
That stressful moment when Windows 10 decides to fuck up your network drivers even though I just bought a new wireless pci card and still refuse to work properly so you just install various drivers to see which one works but Windows is just like: hey yo, fuck your drivers 😠
I'm just going for Ubuntu now or maybe Windows 7 😥8
Just tried to install the Windows 10 anniversary update, got 26% done did a reboot and I got a black screen and my laptop doing literally nothing. A couple of resets later, "Windows is restoring a previous version" at least they made sure it can restore a previous version.5
I want to install Linux on my computer but windows 10 updates have been going on for 25 days now. Will I ever be free?3
I was supposed to do an image of Windows 10 1709 version, but the computer has suddenly started to download the new 1803 version!1
I tried to create an bootable usb device in order to install windows 10 EDU on my new Medion Erazer, but Avira Antivirus was blocking it :D. Now you all now that windows 10 is considered a virus.
People that upgrade to Windows 10 FREE by going to the... "special needs category"(people with special needs that could use the new things that Windows 10 has... like Cortana), but are perfectly normal... don't be ashamed of that... you were retarded enough to upgrade to Windows 10, so it's justified...5
A colleague just told me that his Windows 10 got an update today and now Edge is not working (hangs when typing in searchbar) and IE is completely removed (can't find a trace of it)
I have my updates paused so I guess I am safe for now.
Did I mention we have to work on a silverlight app that only runs in IE4
I hate this screen...... Unfortunately I cannot switch to Linux because I need visual studio for my school project which is a xamarin project.11
Windows 10 - You unreliable fucking piece of shit excuse for an OS!
The fucking thing smells urgency, I tell ya. And it fails when you need it the most! The worst part is, you can't even open the start menu without letting a whole bunch of background tasks and network fetches from eating your CPU cycles and system memory. I don't need your fucking suggestions for your lame ass apps. I don't want to give you feedback about the "Microsoft experience" (which I'm reconsidering), I don't want to be prompted every 5 seconds to reboot my PC for system updates to take effect. Stop fucking with my productivity!
Reinstalled Windows 10. Won't detect my Android tethering. Went to another PC to download wireless drivers. Freezes up and crashes. Restarted. "Your PC ran into a problem." Restart? "Do you want your PC to be discoverable?" Yes. Opens Edge to download Chrome. Edge takes two years. Better then Chrome or Firefox of course. Crashes. OK, fuck this I'm going back to Manjaro.3
Windows 10 updates. I see many posts about singular events that people have experienced, so I thought I'd try to sum up all the problems I have had.
Home computer, always on:
Is scheduled to update during 'inactive hours' but the options for that window are too narrow. So almost daily the 'required updates' overlay pops up WHILE I'M DOING STUFF and I have to say 'Ok' then close the update settings window that opens automatically so I can get on with what I'm doing.
Now, if I'm just browsing, writing or something like that, it's just really annoying.
But when I'm gaming and it causes the game to freeze up (because, you know, ubisoft and ea and such) and I lose my progress, that pisses me off.
When I'm hosting movie night with my friends and the movie gets interrupted, that pisses me off.
Even when I'm just trying to relax with a good show after a hard day and THAT gets interrupted, it really bugs me.
And then when there's a major update and I don't want to schedule it right away, they decide that I probably meant 'do it in an hour'. And then a message pops up every hour with only the option to postpone one more hour. What happened to all the options for scheduling it for several days in the future? Nope! Can't decide? We'll do it RIGHT NOW, NO TAKEBACKS, THAT'S FINAL!
I cannot fathom that they can't find a way to ACTUALLY do the 'inactive hours' thing.
And then there's the work computer. For the last two years, that has been a laptop that I shut down and take home every day. The common problem with that is that it always tells me it has to update when I want to shut down for the day because I have to go home. I can't leave the pc turned on in my bag, it would overheat. So since there is no option to shut down without updating anymore, I have had to rely on the fact that using the power button to shut down circumvents the update.
And if I don't remember to update at home, it's then going to waste my time the next morning at work.
Just give me the option to delay for a bit, then remind me NON-INTRUSIVELY so I can do it when I have the time.
And then there was the update that prevented the machine from booting and I had to waste TWO working days reinstalling EVERYTHING! And we were about 6-7 people hit by that update in our organization.
So yeah. Windows updates are a real fucking problem. Yes, I wan't critical fixes for security problems and other serious software flaws.
But the current policy of 'fuck you, we're doing this' is just not fucking acceptable in any way.3
Is this a bug or a feature? I got this when I changed my screen resolution in Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB2
Windows 10 Rant:
Windows 10 has so many frustrating issues. Most recent being when my computer, if the PC goes into sleep mode, or sits unused for 40 ish minute period of time (screen still on), when I return; awake the computer from sleep or sit back after being away, the WiFi stops working. Turning WiFi on and off again doesn't fix it, only way is to restart the device, which is damn annoying if you have multiple windows, chrome tabs, or programs running. Having to open and set everything back up is a complete pain.
I must point out, this issue only started happening when my device (auto) updated itself to the Anniversary build of W10.
Exactly when I do NOT need to be doing updates because system stability is critical to meeting deadlines, suddenly...5
Older tech support story, but still a frusterating one.
Sister was running Windows 8.1 (ew) when Microsoft was ramming Windows 10 down everyone's throat.
Her laptop decided to update to Windows 10, and after waiting awhile, she decided to unplug the laptop's battery and power chord.
This did what you expected, corrupted her install, leading to a bootloop. I then got to deal with that to try and recover it.
Once I got into the recovery mode, it wanted her password to restore from a system image, guess what she forgot?
She tried her PIN, and gave up after a few attempts, and I got to reinstall Windows for her.
Lesson learned from this? If you're the IT person of the house, make sure that you have an account on all machines that you may administrate. That way you don't need to deal with this shit.1
I just want to thank Windows 10. Because of 3 updates in a week I got to do almost no work, spend 4hrs understanding why I was in a recovery mode loop, and make me lose a days worth of work by hiding the only folder I stupidly left on my C drive post update.
Without this I’d actually have to do work to get paid, and that’s just gross.
Left the desk to look something to eat in the fridge. Returned 5 mins later to find my laptop restarted all by itself.
Microsoft, you evil bitch.2
So my Windows 10 after April Creators Update (aka Nothing Works) gets BSOD when I turn off Bluetooth, doesn’t recognize my headphones, turns them off if it does, WiFi forgets password after every single restart, most of the time I need to force Safe Mode to get the computer to boot because it freezes on black screen with cursor...
Windows 10 is a bloody virus that hijacks and controls your life. Wasting away my morning cause if updates... 2 hours and counting....7
Windows 10 why you turn on my PC at night and then doing your restart for update AND AFTER THAT YOU CANT HIBERNATE PC LIKE IT WAS? YOU DUMBASS IM SLEEPING RIGHT NEXT TO THAT BEAST. I WANT SILENCE. Linux users pls rant with me. Thank you devrant, now I can go to sleep after sharing my frustration.12
Just an update : never fucking install windows 7 on a new desktop without first reading , fucking piece of shit won’t detect my SSD , tried different solution over the Internet to no success, after 3 hours of nerve wrecking debugging I read a post on the Internet that “some”(not sure which) versions of windows just don’t detect an SSD,
Finally done by installing windows 10,
But nooooooo will windows let me die in peace, noooooooo
Every fucking time I restart my PC “ windows is installing updates
I mean fuck you , how fucking many bugs do you squash in a day.
Probably some engineer at Microsoft will be “ oops o dropped a donut on my keyboard, let just press ctrl + z” to undo changes and upload , lol “8
Good friend of mine asked me if he could use my mobile Hotspot with his laptop.
Told him to make sure his windows updates are turned off.
He is using Windows 10 and 30 minutes in he hasn't even managed to pause / cancel the current download...2
I have spent days trying to solve a windows 10 installation problem. I'm so pissed off at my own stupidity.
All I had to do was unplug my main hardrive with Ubuntu installed on it because of course windows doesn't play nice with other operating systems is being installed.
I only need you for games windows 10! Why be so fucking difficult!17
I get home today and my wife says:
"Just finished some chores and really want to play stardew valley, but the computer has been updating for an hour!"
Windows 10 anniversary update strikes again.3
This is bloody annoying me! On Windows 10 while you have taskbar on top (because that's most comfortable for me) most of apps show behind the taskbar :<4
I got a message from a friend "I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and it locks on the login screen, what should I do?" Being a good friend, I promptly gave him the solution to his problem, so I replied "Get a Mac".
The feeling of joy when you really have to finish something and a automated windows update deletes your IDE because windows assumes it isn't compatible with the new update.2
Why did people upgrade to windows 10 its such a piece of shit, sticking to windows 7 then if i feel like i need to on linux it is.5
can't believe I'm so eager to go to work early today (to download windows 10 anniversary update)
ps- my office internet >> home5
Why Windows 10 sucks so bad if you try to use it with taskbar on top?! Like every window behind the taskbar. It's annoying!1
Nothing feels more dead than ur shitty windows Lap going updating mode in a training session surrounded by whole lot of mac users....!
Yeah mothaf**** I can hear u laughing behind me.!
The problem with Windows Store apps is that they are not uniform. They are all layed out differently from each other. Their navigation sucks. They use too much mystery meat icons. Some waste space. The interface is like zoomed in. Just my personal opinion though.3
Fuck you windows! Why the he'll are you treating alt gr and ctrl + alt the same way!?!?
I want configure a shortcut but now I am sitting there like...4
When Windows tells me I require permission from my own user account to delete or modify contents of a folder...
...makes me wish I still used Linux...
...but many of my favorite PC games don't work with Wine...
...so I guess I just have to suck it up and reboot my damn computer so I can delete this folder. 😡3
Did the latest Windows 10 update fix it so that all your startup apps open before you login?
If so, why don't they mention that in the marketing literature? That's far more impactful to most people than some tab feature in their web browser that only old people use.1
To everyone on here thinking about switching to Linux: don't be afraid. I dual-booted it with windows when I was 12 without any help, without any problems occurring during the installation whatsoever. As long as you know what you're doing and you do research, you'll be fine.5
I rarely use my Windows machine. But when I do, I catch some tiny little bugs. Windows 10 fall creators update.3
welcome to my review of windows 10 and the surface 3
windows 10 and surface tablets are utter S H I T
my mom has a surface 3 and it's the most frikin retarded piece of hardware I've ever used
the keyboard spontaneously stops working and the surface needs to be restarted to fix it
today it was spontaneously restarting for no reason
it is shit
and retarded win10 preinstalls shit like candy crush, seriously who tf wanted that
it opens frikin links in edge EVEN WHEN CHROME IS THE DEFAULT BROWSER SHIT
I formatted my entire hard drive, installed an unlicensed windows 8.1 and ran a shit ton of cracked patching on it; even went hunting for a fuckload of drivers, just so I don't have to use Windows 10.
"But it's not so bad" you say. Well, merry Christmas to you and your six hours of unskippable, non-disablebale updates per week, strategically placed to cause maximum disruption to your work, my friends.11
I switched back to Win 10 until I could find a Linux distro that works well with my new lappy. I was starting to miss Windows, but stupid things like my mouse scroll speed that keeps resetting are making me regret using Windows. The thing is, I think Win 10 is great (and I'm primarily a Linux user.) But 3rd party vendor stuff is what kills Windows for me. (It also kills Linux for me sometimes too, but I find easier workarounds on Linux).
If I can get Korora to work with nVidia then I'll primarily use Linux again.2
Today my friend asked me:
If windows wirtes 'this won't take long' it means I have to wait about 6 hours, how long does it then take if windows writes 'this might take a while' ?
Me: Maybe you better go to sleep while it works :p1
So a few months ago I got a computer with Windows 10 on it, and kind of ditched the shitty laptop that had Ubuntu (I loved Ubuntu, fucking despised the laptop, since keys were sticky or missing and it couldn't last a few minutes off the charger) so just now I decided to try Linux Elementary, since I'm getting sick and tired of Win10!
Don't judge me, I'm not skilled enough for Arch...10
You know that one os windows 10? I bet you have. I dual booted arch and windows last night and was finally able to download x plane 11 demo (gallium driver stack not supported on Linux) and I messed around for a bit and rebooted. My internet no longer works for windows. Works fine for anything and everything else including Linux. It connects fine but I have no internet.
To;Dr I installed the most user friendly os and a great game all night, just to have everything break the next night. Fml5
I feel like writing or telling people about the time I jumped from Windows 7 Ultimate and jumping to Windows 10. (I'm not against 10, but I'm never updating after what had happened to me)
It all starts when none of my games will play due to a possible issue with my graphics card. I look up "3D source game bug" and not many results pop up. I go on Microsoft's Qna areas and ask this question but to my surprise nothing they say would make sense. "Clean the pins of your graphics card, make sure you verify the games on Steam". I verified the games and they checked out as perfectly fine. I don't have access to my graphics card because this is a laptop, sadly not a tower.
Two months pass and my computer is already showing signs of stress, like it didn't want to live in a sense. It was three times slower than when I was on Windows 7 and it was unallocating areas of my main hard drive where I could make virtual hard drives.
Instantly I start looking up Linux distros and find Linux Mint. 17.3 was the current version at the time. I downloaded it and burned it onto a DVD-rom and rebooted my computer. I loaded into the disc and to my surprise it seemed almost like Windows 7 apart from the Linux part. I grab my external hard drive and partition it to hold the Linux distro and leave it plugged in incase Windows 10 does actually fail.
On December 19, a few months after Windows 10 had released. I start my laptop to try and continue my studies in video game development. But to my surprise, Windows 10 had finally crashed permanently. The screen flickered blue and black, and an error box saying Loginui.exe failed to start. I look at it for a solid minute as my computer had just committed suicide in a sense.
I reboot thinking it would fix the error but it didn't. I couldn't log in anymore.
I force shutdown the laptop and turn it back on putting it into safe mode.
To my surprise loginui.exe works and I sign in. I look at my desktop, the space wallpaper I always admired, the sound files, screen shots I had saved.
I go into file explorer and grab everything out of my default hard drive Windows was installed on. Nothing but 400gb got left behind and that was mainly garbage prototypes I had made and Windows itself. I formatted my external hard drive and placed everything on it. Escaping Windows 10 with around 100GB of useful data I looked at the final shutdown button I would look at.
I click it and try to boot into normal Windows 10. But it doesn't work. It flickers and the error pops up once more.
I force it to shutdown and insert the previous Linux Mint disc I made and format the default hard drive through Linux. I was done. 10 gave me a lot of shit. Java wouldn't work, my games has a functional UI but no screen popped up except a black abyss and it wouldn't even let me try to update my graphics card, apparently my AMD Radeon 5450 was up to date at the AMD Radeon 5000's.
I installed Linux Mint and thinking the games would actually play I open steam and Launch Half-Life 2 to check if Linux would be nicer to me than Windows 10 had been.
To my surprise the game ran. The scene from Highway 17 popped on screen and the UI was fully functional. But it was playing at 10-15fps rather than the usual 60-70fps. Keep look at my drivers and see my graphics card isn't in use. I do some research and it turns out I have a Hybrid Laptop.
Intel HD Graphics and an AMD Radeon 5450 and it was using the Intel and not the AMD. Months of testing and attempts of getting the games to work at high frame rates pass and the Damn thing still functions at a low terrible fps. Finally I give up. I ask my mom for a Windows 7 disc and she says we can't afford it. A few months pass and I finally get a Windows 7 installation disc through money I've saved up. Proudly I put it into my optical disc drive and install it to my main hard drive deleting Linux completely. I announced to all my friends my computer was back in working order and I install everything I needed, Steam, Skype, Blender, and Unity as well as all my games. I test Half-Life 2 and it's running exceptionally smoothly, I test Minecraft at max settings and it's working beautifully. The computer was functioning properly once again and my life as a developer started as I modeled things and blender, learned beginners C# and learned a lot of Batch. Today the computer still runs at a great speed and I warn others of what happened to me after I installed Windows 10 to my machine if they are thinking of switching from 7 or 8 on an older machine.
Truly the damage to my data cannot be undone. But the memory of the maintenance, work, tests, all are a memory of how Windows 10 ruined me and every night before the one year anniversary of Windows 10's release, I took out the battery of my laptop and unplugged it from the a.c. power, just so Windows 10 doesn't show it's DLLs, batch scripts, vbs scripts, anything on my computer. But now, after this has happened and I have recovered, I now only have a story to tell5
So I installed a Linux distro as my primary operating system for my laptop, I needed to use my windows installation... But idiot me did a full hard drive erase installation and not a dual boot didn't I...
*Sigh* now to download a windows 10 ISO!8
Typical Windows 10:
When you don't need to do something fast - I'm super fast OS, I have no bugs and I won't throw BSOD's
When you need to do something REALLY fast - Hey, I've got some updates, I'll be installing them during several eternities and I'll throw you some BSOD's cause I can
PS. In such cases I really want to install linux1
I love how the consultants Microsoft hired to estimate the savings upgrading to Windows 10 comes up with the number $404 per employee. I think there's a hidden message here...1
I'm fairly confident that my PC has grown sentient, and is fucking with me on purpose.
It crashes about 2-3 times a day, but never when I'm actually on it, only when I go to the bathroom, to the store or out with friends so that I don't get to see the error on the BSOD.
Time to reinstall Windows 10 again... I want to switch over to some Linux distro but then i can't play GTA :(12
I don't understand windows 10 "Quick Access" (when you open windows file manager). I open One very less used folder and it stays in quick access for approx. 10 days and I open my Project folder everyday, every hour, evry minute and every second, it doesn't shows up in quick access, and when sometimes does, it doesn't stays long.10
Here we go. Installing Windows 10 Pro insider preview 14372 on my home laptop. I guess I have time to socialize now.. takes ages anyways.4
This old man is making me upgrade his waaay to old iMac to Windows 10... This is our third attempt (so the third day I'm coming over to try and upgrade), it's working - albeit slowly - as he has upgraded to 16gb ram...
I'm a software (C++) developer -_-3
Remember when I said Windows 10 is kinda beautiful? It's not. Windows 10 is created to break our hard drives so that we'll buy new PCs. Fcking Microsoft.2
So my desktop just crapped itself big time... 😧
It has been having trouble booting for the past few weeks, going into a rave flashing all the monitors, but usually recovering after a couple of minutes.
Today a got even more rave and after 10 minutes and a forced reboot, all I get now is a cursor... 😢
Guess it's time to reinstall Windows, hopefully that will fix the missing icons and thumbnails too 😅4
After yesterday update, my Windows 10 installation literally died, and I’m stuck on spinning cursor.5
Does anyone know how many attempts Windows 10 (funny, my autocorrect turned "Windows" into "subdued") does to try to install an update? I think I'm somewhere around 4 now... Is it possible to force win10 to not install a specific update?1
One of these days my Windows 10 system will actually figure out how to obtain an IPv6 address without needing me to manually run ipconfig /renew6 or disable/reenable the network adapter... For now, static IPv6 it is
Fuck. Windows. 10.
So, a few weeks ago, my Windows 10, which I need for gaming and school, just stopped working (an issue with the hard drive), and I finally got around to reinstalling it this weekend.
Everything went well, I even installed the drivers and all, until I attempted to update it to the latest version, since I installed the 1.0 version.
After a couple of hours, it finally updated. There was one LIIIIITLE problem though:
I COULDN'T CONNNECT IT TO THE INTERNET.
I then figured out that the connection on my laptop (and only my laptop) had to default gateway. I tried using ipconfig /renew, but it just timed me out.
After fucking around with a bunch of solutions i looked up on my phone (none of which worked), I decided to just reset it and pray that it works.
My first attempt at resetting went a little bit like this:
-It would go to he bootloader and display the message "resetting this PC", with the percentage next to it.
-After it reached 100%, Windows would just load indefinetly. I decided to let it load while i slept, and, the next morning, after 8 HOURS, it was still "loading". At that point, I just shut it down.
-When i booted it he 2nd time, it would just display "preparing", and then a black screen, after which i would shut it down again.
-The third time it infuriatingly displayed "Reverting changes", after which it would plop me back right into my isolated desktop.
Today, i decided to just try again, whih brings us here.1
I love to work on my machine, and being it
my work-horse for school and side-projects, I have a neat dualboot of Windows 10 and (driver-related) Ubuntu Mate.
Ditched Mate because screen tearing, got Cinnamon, but I have to say, that W10 UI appeals a lot for me, so... what kind of Windows is this?4
I love using Windows but who the fucking fuck had this fucking idea to hibernate when I press shutdown
I just want my laptop fully turned off and not opening everything that was opened before I shut it down.
I mean it's nice that there is a setting for it if only it would fucking work!1
I seldomly use Windows and whenever I open it either it wants to restart after installing updates or it takes 2 hr to restart becuase it was updated last time.2
How much of windows 10 you will improve? How? And what would you delete?
(In case you want to delete windows 10: "that will be taken care of by op")8
Slowly biding my time till the windows 10 update stops being free and I can proceed to use my win7 Dev environment without risk of a dirty forced update2
For some weeks now I've been having strange compilation issues with Android Studio on Windows 10. Some of my builds fail with funny errors that have only 1-3 StackOverflow entries. When I switch to Linux (Pop!OS) it complies without errors apk gets installed on device. At some point I was frustrated where I spent a whole day trying to figure what's wrong only at night to code using Linux and it compiled. What's up with Android Dev on Windows?3
Hey guys, I've recently purchased an Asus Laptop (i3 7100U - 2.4GHz, 4gb ddr4 , 1tb HDD, 15.6 FHD,). I've swapped HDD with an SSD ( Kingston 120gb) . Everything seems great, Laptop's performance is good, pycharm runs faster etc. However, when I shutdown the laptop, it takes nearly 3-4 minutes to shutdown. Restarting laptop hardly takes 30 seconds. The only problem is shutting down. I've tried everything, resintalled OS( windows 10 home (GPT partition)) , drivers and os are up to date, updated bios but there is no change. It still takes 3-4 minutes to shutdown. Any ideas?3
So I start up the Windows Upgrade Assistant to upgrade my Windows 10 to the anniversary edition and it shows me that I'm running version 10240 and I can upgrade to the latest version 14xxx.
So I hit upgrade now, wait for 10 minutes for the update to be downloaded and another 10 minutes for the update to be installed. Then it does the customary reboot after update.
So now I assume that I'm running the anniversary edition of Windows 10 but it shows that I'm still running 10240.
WTF was the upgrade assistant doing in those 20 odd minutes. And now it does it in an infinite loop. Is Microsoft trying to explain me what an Infinite loop looks like practically.2
>Weird Windows 10 glitch occurs causing text in dialogue boxes and other various things to not appear until you restart your computer.
>Is working on a program in C#
>Presses button in source control.
>Yes or no dialogue appears.
>All flies in working folder disappear.
>Restarts computer to fix visual glitch.
>All files in working folder don’t actually exist anymore.
>3 months of work nowhere to be found.
>Decompiles previous versions executable file.
>Continues to work on project with decompiled code for the next 6 months.
>Gets sick of everything and painfully rewrites the entire program in NodeJS.
Moral of the story: Never gamble with Windows.4
Am I the only one who hates the current status of Windows 10 where it's slow as fuck on an HDD? And I honestly don't like it's design... Even today I started messing with a Windows 7 PC and loved the OS theme and design again (though the icons may need a change). Well, back to my Elementary OS I go...1
Duck! this sloppy whiny winnfsd.
Yay! Let's use state of the art Docker with a VirtualBox VM on Windows10.
Don't get me wrong.
The Docker containers in this VM doing a great job on performance.
But in the very moment a Docker container uses a mounted folder via the windows network filesystem, all hell is breaking loose.
Building a vendor folder using a composer Docker image with 84 Packages takes about 15 seconds when cache has been warmed up.
The same Docker command pointing on a folder mounted to Windows Filesystem with warmed up cache takes about 10 Minutes!@&&@""+&
And what is the duckin' reason for this delay?
Because every transfer of a teeny tiny file has to establish a connection to fat ass Windows OS and has to pass it's glorious "security" layer.
I currently working on a shell script which builds the whole vendor folder on a volume on Docker VM.
After completion, the shell script will compress the folder to one file.
This one file will be transferred over this god damned network filesystem.
Finally the script will unpack the compressed vendor folder in it's destination folder.
What year is it?!??3
When Windows 10 will let me install the .NET 4.6.2 SDK and I can compile my application, but I go to run it appearently the framework isn't installed.
Ok, doesnt make any fucking sense, but sure I'll download the runtime not the SDK. I start uo the runtime installer "Error: .NET 4.6.2 is already installed".
Um no fucker it's not. Look around and Microsoft says that .NET 4.6.2 comes in the Windows 10 Anniversary update. Which I have....
Says to check the registry to see what version I have installed. I have the correct update number, but it says only .NET 4.6.0 something is installed.
Used pip install to integrate tensorflow with python 3.5 on windows 10 machine but there were no models available in it. Had to download that separately and add it to tensorflow. Then tried using both inception and clasify_image.py but gives name error cannot find core. But when tested on python idle there were no error there. I don't want to custom create my own classifier but retrain the model. Any solution people?1
Windows 10 Fall Creator Update (1709) is not supporting Samsung SSD 960 Pro M.2 right now.
Always when I try to update it, I get at the start a blue screen with Boot Device not detected. (Error 0xc00000bb)
Thought ok, let's try the update assistens - Nope
Tried to only boot on my M.2 - Nope NOPE
Tried to install upgrade it over a direct Image - Fuck you MoBo, ain't gonna work.
Googled around and everybody with a Samsung 960 Pro have this problem with the update 1709.
Who dafuq test this things at Microsoft? They are forgetting over the bit more expensive customers with a higher end Rigs.
FUCK YOU MICROSOFT AND WINDOWS TOGETHER. Im gonna bury you under water with in a fucking bolder.7
tldr := Windows 10...
So I had Windows 8.1 / Linux dual boot system. And decided that, what the heck, I'll try upgrading to WinX. That went well. Surprisingly. I even used WinX for a while. Windows 10 and linux side by side, on the same disk, just different partitions. And since everything was so nice, I've decided to let Windows install some updates. After reboot, uefi linux entry is gone. What? How? Well, after update windows found 'unrecognized' partition, and, since it is urecognized, it must be unused. So it helpfully fucked it up. That was linux uefi partition (yes, I kept them separate).
Long story short, windows8.1 back from original image, side by side with linux. Lesson learned, gonna ispect each windows update twice before installing. And not gonna touch WX even with a 10-foot stick!1
Microsoft with the fucking number 10. The Great Windows 7 was in 2009. Windows 10, after 2010. Xbox One, after 2010. Windows 10, 10. 2015, Xbox music was rebranded to *drumroll* fucking Groove music. Now Windows 10's new UI is advertised as a sneak peek with Groove Music open on Desktop. Microsoft, if we want to listen to music we have Youtube, youtube2mp3, and if we are really desperate, Spotify (which is actually pre decent). Fuck you Microsoft, once again.30
just had a bluescreen in win 10 killing my newest project and reducing it to ashes😡
for no reason
not even an error code
fuck windows and its update policies. my laptop is way slower and more instable since the new fall update. it killed some software i had to reinstall and ms changed the options for advertisement again. ive had enough of windows
im finally switching over to Linux and im going to bann win 10 on a vm1
Trying to install elementaryOS alongside Windows 10 in my Acer laptop. Installation went smoothly but now it is not letting me switch to elementaryOS.
Come on Windows 10 (or maybe Acer), just let me use Linux already.
It's not like I am cheating on you! (or maybe I am)9
I have a 7yo laptop which, for the last 4 years, has been a Ubuntu single boot.
It was previously on Windows Vista, as it's shipped with it. Worth nothing to say, after a couple of years, terrible performances, so I never thought twice to reinstall Windows.
Now, that I'm in need to write C# along with CUDA in VS (2013 Express is the last version that supports CUDA 6.5, last version for my old GT330M), I installed Windows 10.
I have to admit, it's going pretty well. For being a VS machine, it's coming along very well :)
Fuckin' windows 10, cannot check my mining rig's hashrate API, because for whatever fucking reason it decides to block port 10555 in spite of me specifically opening it in the inbound/outbound rules.
Reinstalling Windows can be very easy.
I recently found out about the MSMG toolkit, which helps me a lot when I am reinstalling windows.
It basically allows you to remove(and/or add drivers and apps, though i only use the remove part) everything that comes preinstalled with windows 10 from your ISO, saving you a lot of trouble especially with preinstalled apps that refuse to be removed.
I recommend it to anybody reinstalling windows regularly.3
Thanks Windows 10 April update:
i'm not even mad for using my network on high priority when you were downloading the update or taking 1 freaking hour of my working time to finish the updates just to add spam to my lockscreen and an uglier task view but if you could please at least not f**k up all my Wifi, bluetooth and video driver it would be great!
Still having problem with bluetooth connection and i re-installed drivers several times!
Anyone here has installed Ubuntu alongside Windows 10 with UEFI? Did you find any problems?
I have installed other distros on the past, but in computers with the old BIOS so it wasn't much problem.
But now I will be installing it on my laptop, which I use for work so I would like something reliable. Personally I prefer Arch, but on the desktop.
I know there are endless tutorials and videos on internet, but I would like to hear some people's hands on experience.
Had to reboot to windows for a small task
The task was done in 3 minutes
Now i have to reboot back to continiue working because time is tight
I was angry and hoped it would be over as soon as possible
It is already updating for more than an hour and a half(it is not stuck)
and its only 32% done
*me crying in the corner*1
I spent the whole day of yesterday trying to install the windows anniversary update after a clean Windows installation. Every time i tried to update it would go through 30% completion and then... BSOD, claiming that i didnt had a boot device. WUT? Anyway, after 5h of research and no success, i created a bootable usb installer and tried to install Windows 10 Education (which is my license). After the 1st restart... Error: Windows could not complete the installation. OH GOD WHY ME? After another hour i figured it out. Somehow i needed to install the version Windows Home and after the installation update to Student. DAMN WHAT A DAY...2
Ever tried to use Windows 10's search as a calculator? For me it just returns numerically named folders in System32 most of the time... 😕9
Let me tell you about my wonderful weekend. It all started with a game that doesn't run in wine and it ended up in the biggest nightmare of Windows Update and EFI configuration.
1 - let's boot on my Windows partition to play trackmania 2.
2 - Windows Update interrupts me while driving a track.
3 - Update keep failing over and over again.
4 - I keep trying things to fix Windows Update, but with no success.
5 - Let's try system restore, failed
6 - Let's try to do a reset. "You don't have a recovery drive". Oh, right...
7 - Let's try to upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 10, just because. Nope, "we could not determine if your pc can run Windows 10". Wait what....
8 - I guess I'll be reinstalling this trash. "Nope, can't. Don't like that partition I just formatted". Of course you can't...
9 - Had to delete the partition and let it create new ones. It created a new EFI partition. Just why???
10 - Okay that worked. Let's fix grub now.
11 - Maybe not, let's try rEFInd, because it looks fancy.
12 - After rebooting on the live USB for about 50 times and reconfiguring rEFInd without any luck, I realised the install script didn't install fs drivers for ext4. Oh, right... That's why you didn't find any Linux kernel...
13 - It can't boot windows, they're using a different EFI partition. Let's move rEFInd to the new EFI partition windows created for me.
14 - Finally everything works again. So much effort to play a freaking game without being bothered by windows update. And rEFInd abience theme looks beautiful.
I've got to say though, I learned a lot and the Arch wiki is awesome!6
EVERY GODDAMN TIME I use FREAKING Windows in my computer, I have to reconfigure FUCKING EVERYTHING. But seriously, every goddamn time it fucks up with the other OS'. Mac and Linux aren't acting up, you little shit.3
I was wondering Microsoft deliberately made Windows 10 shitty so that users are forced to download them updates. Why would anyone do that? I don't know.3
When I had to format my desktop it was not recognizing my USB keyboard before BIOS. It was saying:
Press F2 for setting(BIOS)...
if only if I don't have mine PS/2 keyboard I couldn't have finished my work next day.1
Few days ago I started a new job in a big corp. Almost everyone are working on windows 10 machines.
I am a begging front end dev, who only worked on ubuntu.
Will windows be a problem?2
Today was my first day on my first job ever. It was give me the task to create a website's template to present to a client. Task, to fulfill on a computer where on the first 2 hours occurred 2 BSOD. At least they didnt gave me (yet) a deadline.
I don't know what it is checking for 30min after downloading all fucking updates. I just wanted to upgrade my pc to windows 10 but this never ending "checking for updates" is running.5
when you get to your pc needing to get sorted for some work and of course windows 10 is updating. and its removed important software :(
So I’m thinking of downgrading to Windows 7 or 8.1 from 10, because I’m tired of how slow it is on Dell Latitude E6320... Should I?7
Company just gave me a laptop running windows 10 that doesnt get to the login screen because of a bad AVG upgrade - of course its urgent hence they cant give it to the guy whos fucking job it is becuase he will take week.
Firstly just found out you cant access safe mode without a disk if you cant hit the login sceen - Windows your fucking kidding me right?
Now I've been watching a spinning fucking circle for an hour while it's "attempting repairs" without even saying what its trying, oh ya and of course formatting this peice of shit is out of the question.2
Anyone using SCCM to deploy Windows 10?
If we add Software Updates to the Task Sequence, all sorts of apps get installed too. We have Consumer Features disabled, but for some reason updating during OSD seems to ignore it and installs apps anyways?
Anyone else with this issue?
I had an issue with office 2016 add-ons crashing, apparently they use IE, so I looked online for this issue and landed on a Microsoft QA forum, where the issue was IE crashing. Some of the comments on that page were amaizing "IE keeps crashing, I really regret upgrading to Windows 10. I'm a really fustrated small business owner" <- that's just sad...
A Client updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Wifi just won't turn on. Great, Microsoft! Thank you for this shit.11
BSoDs/scenario I've had in 5 months:
Watching a video on VLC: 5
Chrome running normally: 2
Chrome running while waking up from sleep:3
Working on WSL: 2
Seriously though. VLC? (╯°□°）╯6
So I have a dual monitor setup running on windows 10
sometimes the background on the second monitor gets messy for no reason at all.
basically it doesn't recognize the second monitor's background and misplaces the one on the first monitor.
Normally it fixes itself after some reboots, but this time didn't, so I thought to do clean reinstall of the vga drivers (using display driver unistaller in safe mode)
for some reason, I used network less safe mode.
note: I'm using my outlook account linked to windows and it requires my outlook password on login.
now things get weird:
> inputs password : invalid password
> tries again: invalid password
> remembers to have changed the password some time ago, tries old password :
> starts panicking for a sec
then it comes to me the idea that since i changed password I always logged in using a PIN so windows, for some reasons doesn't know the new one? And why even the old one doesn't work?
> starts googling for answers, found nothing useful
> ends up formatting
Say what you will about Windows 10, they know what they're doing; error messages never sounded this harmless before.
Dell with Windows 10 and security tools. worst computer ever. it crashes every night and when I log in in the morning the security tools freeze and I have to hard boot the machine and repeat about 10 times1
"You won’t be able to use your Surface Book if you want to take the bar in Tennessee"
Kinda amusing really. They really believe you can choose when Windows 10 updates.
Ignorance truly is bliss.
Ever since the Windows 10 anniversary update. Whenever I resume a video after pausing for a couple minutes on VLC the audio is super loud and distorted. I've been troubleshooting this for a long time and tried multiple driver versions and what not. Anybody else facing the same issue?2
Just did a rebuild, is there even a reason to activate Windows (10)? Google can't seem to give me a reason and just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake.5
