    It seems that Windows users are used so to it that they don’t expect anything else.

    An incident like this was the last straw for me, in 2016. Since then, I have only run Windows in a VM, a cloud instance, or a local parsec machine.

    0 <— number of times this has been successful for me.

    @bahua sadly I still need to work with Windows on the regular.

    @lastNick I don't know man. Microsoft likes fucking with users.

    @Parzi instructions unclear. Tested dick. Length : 12 MICROmeter.

    @Nanos You definitely are not the only one.
    I'm now used to the abusive relationship with Windows, I guess. I have lost some recent changes but I have another disk that I can maybe clone.
    Let's see how it goes.

    @neoliun hehe. gaming on Linux is about to be a strong thing thanks to steams project proton.

    @Techno-Wizard

    "about to be?" Proton is brilliant TODAY.

    @bahua people dont realize it exists, but it's already almost identical in performance to native. Amazing considering its posix system call translation.

    @bahua it's still not 80% complete yet... it will be AMAZING once it's over that!

    this shit never works

    make a linux bootable usb... configure or format all your partitions in linux live...

    make a windows bootable usb... just install in that partition... no using of any fancy bells which never work

    @dr-ant

    This just occurred to me:

    If this is a work machine, wtf are you doing messing with recovery and EFI? I would think that company policy dictates that you would turn it over to your desktop support people in an event like this.

    @bahua no this isn't a work machine. When I said I need to work with Windows regularly I meant at home. Since my workplace uses Windows extensively, more of my time is spent on Windows even at home. The side projects I think of are often Windows based.

    I have recovered some of my stuff. Dual booted again. 😬
    Let's see how much longer it lasts.
    This has woken me up to how lazy I've been with periodic backups. I'm thinking of investing for auto backups.

    @Nanos yeah that's the thing. I was thinking of getting some hardware and writing my own tool that will at least work for me.

    @Nanos oh! Didn't even think of that. Thanks for the warning.
