Fuck you Tony Abbott and fuck your "Liberal" party of profit-mongers!!!

First they crippled the NBN. Then they blew out its budget. Now they are leveraging its monopolistic power.

Step 1: Build a single national broadband network πŸ‘·‍♂️
Step 2: Legislate everyone switches to it and phase out every other infrastructure (ADSL) i.e. establish monopoly by design πŸ‘‘
Step 3: Profit πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ

    "potential price hike for customers who watch Netflix, Stan and other bandwidth-sapping streaming services"

    Net Neutrality fucked up

    Remove individual choice -> make everything worse.

    Whenever you see/read/think about politics, keep this in mind. It holds true every single time.
  • 4
    @Root I'll just add: Be careful with the illusion of choice.
    There are so many brands here and there that are actually controlled/owned by the same bug company behind. That's not choice.
  • 3
    @Jilano The illusion of choice is not a choice at all, so it still applies.

    Your example effectively reduces your choices, which in turn makes things worse. Both for you and for the market (fewer consumer choices -> less incentive to innovate -> stagnant products. Also increases the likelihood of price hikes.)
  • 2
    @Root Agreed. So many examples of this when you think about it, it hurts.

    I saw that streaming is going to cost more to use.
    Like wtf, I already pay absurb prices (compared to other parts of the world) for half assed Internet (HFC) And I have to already pay to use streaming services... but no, you slimy fuckers want me to pay you, to be able to also pay someone else, to watch a fucking movie.

    Hi ho, hi ho, I'm back to torrents I go!
  • 2
    @C0D4 "Absurd" is the word. The fact that some countries pay so much or even have data caps is insane.

    PS: Yarrr, matey! It's good to be back...
  • 2
    @Jilano now the hard part, identifying the safer places of the scurvy web in 2019 🏴‍☠️
  • 2
    @C0D4 Ditto. Apparently this is all just a big power play between Murdock and NBN and as per usual us peasants are feeling the pain 😭
  • 3
    Never voted for Liberal morons. NBN is just one of their screw ups.
  • 1
    @ammadfa not the NBN we voted for either. Which makes it worse.
  • 1
    @C0D4 How much is this absurd price?
  • 1
    @Konsole $70/Month for a max
    of 50Mbps (I sit between 30-45Mbps)
  • 2
    @C0D4 Damn....
    I pay like 8$ a month. Though tbh the speed doesn't go above 30mbps
  • 2
    I don’t know what it is with Australia and infrastructure projects, screw ups without fail. I also remember reading recently that the NSW gov spent $2 billion on new trains that were too wide for tunnels...🀦‍♂️
  • 2
    @Konsole yep. It's fucktastic πŸ‘

    @abirz hahahahahahahahahahahababababababababahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahabahahabahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahababahahahahahahahahahahahahaabahahahahahhaahaha

    I'm crying with laughter right now.
    Thought you were joking but then saw this

    @abirz
    "It takes a special type of incompetence to buy trains that don’t fit through the tunnels,”

    Man I am laughing so hard...πŸ˜†
  • 1
    @abirz and @C0D4 I'm laughing with you mate now πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I didn't know that either, how did I miss that beauty πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

    Btw, while that sore topic is still fresh the latest edition is already gaining momentum: 2km of tram lines on George St is well past deadline and twice over budget... and only 70-80% completed 😭
  • 2
    @NoMad this feels like they didn't learn from the tilt trains, if memory serves me right they ran into platforms.
  • 2
    @C0D4 I might be aware of few harbours here and there for a guy like you. A man needs a mean to communicate said addresses, though.
  • 2
    @Jilano this is the scurvy web after all, a scallywag has no tax free havens these days.

    I hear Yts and 1337x are of the friendly kind though.
  • 2
    @C0D4 Most definitely! You'll find most of what you might need there. There are also few others depending on your needs (e.g. anime, etc.), such as HorribleSubs, ShanaProject, etc.

    I also recommend using the RSS feature on these websites to help you sail across the seas.

    PS: qBittorrent is wonderful.
