Hi devs,

I started to work as a freelancer just a year ago. I'm still a CS student. I develop apps.

I wanted to ask that if I develop an app for an individual, and they pay me. Does that mean, he can have my source code?

Or the source code has to be sold separately?

    Depend on the contract

if there's no contract, it's yours

@Coffe2Code does that mean, if we dont talk about the source code, its mine? And later if he asks for it, I can charge for it?

It depends on the laws in your country. This is something you should research and agree on upfront.

@taosif7 it should be in the contract.

See or print the small text.

This is what a contract is for, and a lawyer 😏

Now if he's paying for you to "create an app" under the pretence it's for him and he will own it, then probably if it's not in the contract, he'll be rewarded the code in court as the code at the end of the day is the app.

You can't have eBay without the codebase....

*** I am not a lawyer, seek professional assistance on this matter!

Every contract job I ever coded was implied that I am delivering source code as part of the final product.

If it's not in the contract, I own it and will give you a copy
