"alright, let's go to sleep"
*pulls out extension cord from monitors as I do every night*
*hears server buzzing disappearing*

😓

I entirely forgot that I connected my server which is running heavy and lengthy tasks, to that one, as well.

😧😥😬😰

I push the power button on my monitors.

    That little poor Server ._.

The mistake was connecting it behind a switch.

And after @irene's comment I notice there's no mention of a switch. Why pull cords instead of having a switch on the extension cord?

    Why ?!

I don't even bother to shutdown pc

With me task stops after each 2 hours, and I run commands again and again!

@NoToJavaScript Not even occasionally? For when it gets a bit slow

    more important than "why":

    fsck
    fsck
    fsck
    fsck
    fsck
    fsck
    fsck

@Haxk20 @irene @electrineer I use shot loads of power and this way I make sure I don't use any (or hardly) at night. Just a way to save in power costs :)

@linuxxx a switch would be easier still

@alexbrooklyn seems like we found the XP user

@electrineer No Windows for me 😅

There goes a good night of sleep!

@irene Yup and if you'd know me, you'd know how often I forget to shut down my entire rig and that this has been the only thing that works until now

I developed a special kind of hatred towards people who unplug everything due to my highly compulsive and stubborn ex-roommate. Nothing personal though 😁 She insisted on unplugging everything overnight and by that I mean literally everything including the coffee machine, the TV and the lamps. It was a chore to find about 12 damn plugs every morning and to plug them back where they belong and cause almost no impact on electricity whatsoever. The time I lost my shit was when I couldn't work during my commute because she unplugged my charging laptop every night and I had a big presentation coming up with an empty battery. AHHH THE GOOD OL' DAYS

@irene fortunately I could convince her not to do that because I had milk in the fridge at all times 😏👌🏻

Is it just me or do you look older now?

@billgates Which look exactly? I only put a pair of glasses on my avatar but that's more than a year ago...

@linuxxx hm maybe I just noticed then. You have like a professor kind of look... Reminded me of him specifically.

Connecting the monitors to a common switch wouldn't be a bad idea actually 🤔 you're running 6 of them now, right? An extension cord (do check the power input on all the monitors though! Switches can weld when too much current is pushed through them) with a beefy switch wouldn't be a bad idea. Or even just tap into the monitors' circuits, the power buttons are usually just tiny momentary switches that connect to the PCB. You can take them out, break it out with some wires and connect them and a button to a piece of perfboard, all in parallel. Maybe check the voltage in the switches when they're open as well, might differ for each monitor. Connecting them together could cause issues requiring additional components.
