Accidentally opened my downloads folder and i had forgotten to move the hentai pics I had downloaded last night.... I clicked back as fast as i could, still pretty sure he catched a glimpse of it. I hope it was something mild and not very questionable content...

    Why do people download hentai or overall porno shit into their computers? I never understood this

    @norman70688 True, but not at work.

    @Fast-Nop it's a byoc place, I use my personal device for work.

    @Nicci That's a huge red flag and completely unprofessional.

    @Fast-Nop what? The hentai on a pc that is also used for work or using a personal pc for work?
  • 6
    @Codex404 Using personal (i.e. private) devices for work purposes. A company that allows this is a shitty circus show.

    The reason I don't download porn. Really don't have to have anyone see the nasty shit im into

    Who is "he"? Your boss?
  • 5
    He ;) one day i was showing pictures to my mum.

    Then suddenly (i was in a long distance relation ship), a dick pic shows up and im like Shhhhiiiieeet so i skip forward and every next consecutive picture was the picture of my dick getting bigger. 3 or 4 pictures....

    Family still makes fun of me 10 years later. So embarrassing ;)

    @Fast-Nop I guess you are right, but sometimes I would really appreciate access to my workspace to check up on stuff from home. But yeah, this mere convenience is definitely not more important than good security.

    @Pyjong I needed that on travels, and my company simply handed me an official laptop with VPN access.

    @jsframework9000 yes my boss, forgot to add that

    @Fast-Nop i disagree. Using your personal device has many advantages: you have the device you really want, you don't have to carry double. I'd say most developers already have a laptop they like, so it's just more convenient.

    @eval Personal devices where everyone has admin rights, yeah sure great idea. Not to mention that shadow IT cracks down unexpectedly when nobody expects migration issues. Oh and you leave the company, someone else has to take over? Lalala, he doesn't even have the environment because you've taken a considerable part with you.

    That's why companies need IT departments with strict enforcement - to keep people from fucking up for "convenience".

    @Fast-Nop docker or some other virtualisation. And local admin rights shouldnt be a security issue, otherwise you're doing something wrong. You can ALWAYS get local admin as an attacker... So you should expect that in the same way as you should prepare for users fucking with the JavaScript of your website.

    @eval Look, a determined attacker can also open any lock on your front door. So you certainly leave the front door wide open when you leave, don't you? It's more "convenient" not to bother with locking the door everytime, and you can't lock yourself out accidentally.

    @eval Also, enforcing docker on everyone for "convenience" doesn't bode well. It's one thing with quickly spinning up and down cloud instances driven by demand, but given Docker's history of non-backward compatible breakage, I wouldn't bet that you can use a current docker image two years down the road.

    @eval Disagree.

    I had both a company issued phone and laptop at my previous job.

    While I did have root access on the laptop, disk encryption and other security software (open source was a hard requirement) was required and for security reasons I wasn't allowed to do anything non work related with it.

    Also, some engineers did use windows at home and we weren't allowed to on our work devices!

    @Fast-Nop @eval For the record, I had root access to nearly our entire server infrastructure but then, I was one of the server engineers and pretty much needed that so it didn't really matter whether I had root access to my laptop as well as long as I secured that fucker properly.

    @12bitfloat

    It's midgets. and horses. isn't it?

    Midgets stuck INSIDE horses for sure.

    Yep. We're going with that as the best guess.

    @Wisecrack It's definitely one of the two ;)
