NoMad141765y@frogstair in which universe linux and a stupid desktop environment are the one and the same??????????????
-
NoMad141765y@24th-Dragon
@theKarlisK and I had a similar conversation/investigation about it and I can't remember what the reasoning was for not using it tbh 😬 -
NoMad141765yBudgie isn't too bad. Ofc it isn't a fresh install and that's messing with some basic stuff. Like, I wany my own black theme, not this all overthe place black themes 😢
Minor issues exist, but at least it ain't windows 😜 -
NoMad141765yInteresting shift on elementary. Ngl, I like how it looks, but iirc it is based on Ubuntu. And Ubuntu, as good as it is, ain't fast enough for me. Haven't got the ram and cpu for it. So I prefer arch based. Something lighter, if possible.
-
theuser48025yWould never use it anyway because of the name. I know it was made by asians, but still.
-
NoMad141765yShout out to the arch core btw. It didn't blink an eye while I touched just about all over the desktop params.
-
NoMad141765y@12bitfloat DE not distro. Cuz it was better than anything else I came across, back when I chose it.
-
@NoMad And you wonder why you can't opt-out of the "user experience program" aka CCP data collection backdoor
-
NoMad141765y@12bitfloat Not everything made in china is filled with spyware. I really expected better than this from you.
-
NoMad141765y@12bitfloat also, there is a bug clearly, that doesn't allow the option to stay off. They didn't need to provide a freaking option if they were going to do it anyways.
-
@NoMad You do know that in order to be a large company in China, the CCP has to have a stake in your company right? I have exactly zero confidence that the largest chinese linux distro used by chinese companies and government agencies has no tie to the party. And even if it's just a formal one without effective influence, that's way enough for me to stay 10 feet away from anything they are doing
-
NoMad141765yWhat is it with this hypocrisy when most of the devices you use in your life are made in china? Their govt is bad and evil, ok, but that doesn't mean we should be racist and ignore the people's achievements.
FYI : To discriminate on the basis of race or region, is the literal definition of being racist. -
@NoMad First of all chinese is not a race, it's a nationality. Second of all, this has nothing to do with chinese people (what a surprise). It's rational to be sceptical of the products of an oppressive authoritarian dystopia which is known for exerting control over things that it has no business controlling.
The chinese people have nothing to do with this, if anything they are the real victims and I'm saddened that they have to put up with this horror.
Nonetheless I can't morally support a majority of chinese products because many are made with the blood of their own people. I'm sure it's a cool distro but aslong as the communist party is in it's current state I would never consider using it without a very thorough security analysis.
Maybe you should start having a bit more sympathy for the citizens of china that they even have to put up with this in the first place -
NoMad141765y@12bitfloat exactly that last sentence. That they work so hard on an open source product and it is all ignored just because of where they live.
Nevertheless, I haven't seen anyone produce any real evidence of it being a spyware. And the whole shebang is on github so it's more of a MS product at this point 🤣🤣 -
@NoMad You're right that my refusal to use large chinese software (the large part being important here) also has a direct effect on the chinese people. But you have to look at the whole picture and blindly going along with this oppression is the more catatrophic error in my estimation.
That is exactly what gave the chinese party all this power in the first place. Because nobody cares
Is it a bummer that just because it's a chinese distro it's looked at with suspicion? Absolutely. But should we just not say anything? Should we give the chinese government even more unearned power? Should we just stay ignorant and be complicit in the dystopia the chinese people have to live in?
I don't know man -
@frogstair yes its good idea except vm try docker for development purposes it has good amount of specific images for almost all env
-
bytewind1145yWell, it's pretty. That's gotta count for something eh? You could always switch to a gnome distro and join the hordes of gnome hating users - we're a welcoming bunch
-
bytewind1145y@pythondev I'm running Pop!_OS 20.04 atm, but I'd much prefer to run K-Pop!_OS if you catch my drift /wink /wink
-
theuser48025y@ReverendLovejoy KDE nice and configurable, although it requires a big dollop of no fucks given because you will be like a weird ass cousin that runs KDE
-
theuser48025y@bytewind well.. Less so these days I would say, but it depends I guess. KDE is still proper weird cousin, and I mean proper.

If you're on Manjaro, since deepin is based on gnome: https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/...
