And then the boss / product owner / some other unrelated person comes up with a bright idea: let's add two rotating shelves to accommodate the use cases of black and white cats. And then, sensible users stop buying the product, because why pay for a bunch of extra shit which makes no sense? Once sales go down, they turn back to designer to develop a new design which contains the two shelves, can be made with existing parts, but doesn't look unnecessarily complex so that customers will still buy it.
