I can code for 9h if it is hectic.. if it’s not then I get sidetracked after a few hours.. longest was 14 straight with a 15min lunch break in between, that was hard though. Inward fucked the next day and headaches..
-
You shouldn't. If you have to, take breaks every hour at least.
A breather with a bit of water helps clear your head. -
I don't even work 9 hours a day if I can help it, let alone code the entire time.
-
With breaks. I don't code that many hours anymore; I'm at the point where my time is better spent spend documenting and teaching my guys, bringing them up to the next level. When I do contribute a sizable amount of hours, it's because it's some core system component or a pile of rg tests and some stubs to be implemented.
-
Coding is the lesser part.
I spent more time thinking about what I going to code than coding.
Furthermore, I won't work more than 8 hours. The day can be productive even if I don't write a single line if code. And even when I code, it mostly takes up four to six hours maximum per day.
I doubt that anyone can produce any quality when coding for 9 hours especially when this "crunch" lasts multiple days. -
For me, the more I do it per day, the worse I become, and after a good night’s sleep it comes back to me. I have literally no idea lmao
-
no.
i can sometimes code literally for 24 hours straight, but only when it's my own idea/project, and it's followed by minimum of two days of doing literally nothing.
but for work, as in, for someone else, usually even a single day of 8 hours is too much. -
@k0pernikus thinking about what you're going to code is part of coding, in my opinion.
-
@uyouthe don’t even get me started.. terrible boss making impossible promises to the customer, agreeing to more features in the same time while firing most of the developers.
I was over committed tho, I should just have said: „with all due respect, fuck you, Here’s my resignation“ -
kiki352694y@just8littleBit no. I mean why you keep working for that garbage boss? You don’t value your mental health?
-
I don't. I code for an hour everyday. But then I have to code bout 12 hours straight before the deadline.
-
No human actually codes for 9 hours. 3-4 is the max. Shitty workshops that don't hire good devs just make people sit in front of a computer for 9 hours. Doesn't mean they're doing actual shit.
That's step 1 to getting a shit culture. -
@hashedram I don’t agree. If you start something new and have fun you can code for longer than 4h. As long as you enjoy it.. time just flies by.
Of course you get up to refill the coffe and stuff. -
@just8littleBit not actively for 9 hours no. Your mind wanders. You can think about stuff for hours on end. You can't actively create real code for 9 hours, you'll notice yourself get slower.
