As a former chemist I must say you can do so much without a periodic table (you usually work with few elements at a time and usually know many of its properties).

As a developer its way harder without internet if you need something that its out of your memory.

If you keep old projects on your computer you can go a long way without internet.

MEMORIZE THE INTERNET

As someone with some experience in chemistry, believe me, it's like doing chemistry without the Internet (or at least a good library). In the same way you Can't have all the docs memorized you Can't have all properties of your compounds memorized. nist.gov ist the chemists man page.
