There's indeed a few grey marketplaces where you can get your hands on a cheap license. Though I would recommend getting the LTSC version, and I'm not sure you can get one like that on those.

    Ubuntu is free 😜

Maybe... MAYBE that ghetto aftermarket 3rd party reseller license will work.

    MAYBE.

Maybe you will save a substantial amount of money.

But... also MAYBE you will just get scammed and be out the money and still need Windows.

If you need a cheap OS get Linux... if you need Windows, I advise buying from MS, even for substantially more money. I have definitely seen people get burned on 3rd party licenses.

This seems appropriate at this juncture about windows:

@Linux They only started to market it that way with the latest version, it used to be just the "Enterprise" version. But I'm curious, what's your issue with it?

If it's on eBay or the like, that's where I've got keys before, for personal use. I don't really give 2 hoots if it's technically legit quite frankly. If it's a scam then eBay will step in and give you a refund pronto, so usually these things check out.

If it's for business use though, different ball game - I'd always go legit. Cost isn't worth the potential trouble later.

I bought one a year ago from mmoga. I think they are wholesale OEM keys they buy and sell for like 15€

I have to agree with @AlmondSauce only buy these "grey-area" keys for a personal computer. Businesses can get a huge fine if regulatory bodies find out

i always buy the $5 version from ebay, had issues once out of about 20 times, and even then i got my money back

I used my old win7 key to register win10 for free, not sure if that’s still accepted though.

@webapp I did this with an old copy of licensed Win8 and then rolled it up to 10 for free within the last 3 months.

    @Jilano

    Windows is the issue ;)
Well, we use it in our machines.
Imagine hundreds of thousands of Windows boxes that has not been updated since 2016.

I have several Win7 / Edu licenses (which work for Win10), but there's also my digital life.
