Surely I can't be the only one curious enough to start this discussion; so what's everyone's backgrounds?

I'm sure we're all under the assumption that we're all developers of some sort and like to rant about what we do-- hence the app name-- but what does everyone do? Such as what you make, what you've made, your skill set and a little info about yourself

Myself, I'm a 21 year old male from the North West of England. My name isn't actually Markshall, it's Mark, but I'm a huge fan of Eminem so it's a play on my name on his (Marshall).

I'm primarily focused on web development but I started programming at the age of 11ish in Visual Basic 6 and found the web development was my chosen area of expertise. I know the obvious HTML and CSS, but also know PHP and JavaScript and have lots of experience with MySQL databases and rather extensive knowledge of the jQuery library -- yes, I do know it's a library and not a separate language before people get pissy!

I'm not yet employed by a web development company, I work in retail whilst I freelance my web development skills

I have an online portfolio at http://mark-eriksson.com (needs a little updating-- not all my projects are on there and you're unable to view any information about them)

I write code in Brackets (http://brackets.io) on my 21.5" iMac. I use Google Chrome and have iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. PS4 player. Vodka and Jack Daniels enthusiast.

So, what about you?

Side note: devRant needs an edit feature :-(

wow, that was alot of information.

My name is Travis i have been coding since i found my Dads copy of C++ at the age of 11, learnt the basics VB, C+, C++ (not a whole lot of difference but hey) then went to TAFE (In Australia i guess you would see them as Community Colleges) learnt HTML, JavaScript and Graphic Design after High School, took up ActionScript 2.0 (yes i know), from there obvious step was AS3 then Flex and AIR, at that point took an interest in Android so stepped back into Java (easy to pick up after using JavaScript and AS3)

Now i am the Project Manager/Lead Developer (only developer) for a company that is in the midst of developing a box similar to Apple TV but geared towards the Commercial Hospitality market.

P.S i figure when you say HTML you also learn CSS because one with out the other is like trying to recreate a Van Gough with a fat boy Sharpie.

25 year old, male living in London, England for about 4.5 years. Started back when I was 10-ish with mIRC scripts, switched to C afterwards (no guide so I didn't really master it). played with java and C++ Discovered (my weapon of choice) PHP by accident during the time of the 4 to 5 transition, learned it, learned js + HTML and CSS. Extended the my knowledge with some python, worked for a few small companies being a lone/lead developer.

I am a lone developer by definition, been an outcast since I picked up development. Struggling to get in to a stable position as a dev (them agencies man..). freelancing for the past couple of years.

Damn that tag name similarity haha, though my name is Shal! 24 year old male living in Ontario, Canada. I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelors in Computing Technology.

Currently working as a Software Developer for a consulting firm and also doing my MBA. The programming languages I use are mainly Java/C++/C#, Python, Ruby, PHP, HTML, CSS,JS (including Node) and a few others. I have a wide range of projects I am responsible for and working on, keeps me on my toes, just how I like it.

Brackets is also my favorite editor. Sporting an MSI PE70 Laptop, and an ASUS Zenfone.

Outside of work, I enjoy gaming and I am a big fan of Formula 1. I also practically live on Red Bull and Coffee.

Also Burt Reynolds and Jaggerbombs for the win.

@MarShal Brackets FTW! I switched to sublime for a bit because of being able to edit multiple lines and files at once but then discovered Brackets has the same functions so I ran back quick! LOL

@MightybeforeGod it is just so simple and beautiful, I tried sublime text but couldn't like it, but my next favorite is Atom! Atom is a bit heavier though than brackets I find, but its nice nonetheless! As you said: Brackets FTW!

@MarShal the only problem is some of the plugins are less than compatible and it can really slow the entire thing up.

@MightybeforeGod very true! I try as much as I can to limit the plugins I use, and only just use those I need. When I first installed Brackets I installed everything I thought I'd use, then realized I have multiple plugins that essentially do the same thing, after comparing different plugins and found what I like, I just kept those and removed the rest. The multiple line selection along with other shortcuts (I love Ctrl+D [duplicate line]), its beauty is in its simplicity

@MarShal that is exactly what I did! I had 50 plugins until it started to crash and freeze. Now I have probably 5. And ctrl+d is a huge timesaver!

@MightybeforeGod I try thinking of other tricks on Brackets but nothing really pops up off the top of my head even though I have been coding on it for like 50 hours the past 3 days alone...crunch times, I will stay on the lookout for some more ;)
