Screw the current Stack Overflow community so hard. It's still basically the only place to get answers but I'm sick and tired of the "you missed a period on line 7 why are you even on this site??" attitude. Look here, yeah it's my bad for missing that part, but I'm pretty sure that if you can't figure out that I missed an obvious ".ToArray()" when pulling my code together for a sample, then you aren't gonna be able to answer my bit-shifting question in the first place.

My goal in life is to create a project big enough it gets its own tag on SO that way I can be an expert and not only answer the questions l, but also correct the other answers and the questions themsleves.

Yeah the desire to be technically correct isn't helpful when you're asking more conceptual questions.

I had some questions about managing large chunks of data that at times slowed down the browser.

I was wary about asking on SO as I usually don't see those kinda questions. But I asked.

Now maybe I worded it wrong but nobody ventured to address the gist of my question, it was all requests for code samples.

Like bro imagine a fetch and some big chunk(s) of data and then displaying it... (i'm simplifying here), and I kinda read into the requests as ... they're not gonna be able to answer / don't give a fuck if someone's browser chugs.

I think the reason I thought of SO is that I really wanted to find some folks who maybe dealt with it and handled it ... well.

Like any random discord or slack group, I've asked about similar things there and honestly a lot of front end land gives no fucks about letting the CPU hit 100% or performance, they just don't care.

I don't really blame them, we all budget our times and have to not focus on some things in favor of others.

I was hoping to cast a wide enough net to get some perspective / opinions. Even if someone found a half answer / some wonky solution, it would be something.

I have seen some highly rated threads on SO (back when I would brows it) that really did handle more conceptual pattern questions, but they were more back end focused, but at the very least they are addressed, at least occasionally.

@Nanos regarding the power tripping that certain admins do, I don't think it's got that much to do with age, as much as it does with the value you assign to it. Sure when you're admin in a dozen or so groups of say a couple thousand people each (which I am), that's a position of power. I think what matters is whether you treat it as such.

In my opinion, admin privileges anywhere are a responsibility much more so than a position of power. And frankly, I don't care. If I had it my way, I'd remove whatever badge they assign to admins too, because I don't think it should even be visible. Treat an admin like you would anyone else really, and an admin should act as if they're just another member.

But far too many people care about admin access.. get drunk on power, and ban left right and center because I GOT DA POWA!!! In my experience, that is what turns communities into pure cancer. So don't be like that. And when you're a community member, don't appeal to authority.

@Nanos I don't mean reporting abuse, rather the idea of authority itself being used as supporting evidence in arguments and whatnot. It happens so often...

You could picture it as "don't argue with the admins" in a group description, or an admin threatening with a ban when arguing with them. What if their statement is simply wrong? Like sure, if a member is truly obnoxious, fine. But it's so easy for an admin to ban just to end an argument. I hate that - it's power abuse and creates echo chambers. So personally I try as hard as I can to not use my access in communities I admin during an argument. Granted it's not like I use it much regardless ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
