Random advice: don't get an AI degree. It's as useless as a liberal arts degree considering how most countries are still using stupid systems.

Lonely, broke, depressed, locked up and horny. That summarizes my trip back home.

Fuck my life in the ass with lots O' cactus. 🌵

@rutee07 will you give me food and internet as well? Then yes, I'm all in.

++ for support rather than because I agree.

There's lots of companies I know who would he happy to employ an AI grad as a general dev (in Python or whatever else) - if you're smart enough to work your way around Tensorflow and the like, you're more than smart enough to take on other dev work.

And who knows - perhaps you'll find a problem there that could genuinely be solved much better with a neural net, then you'll get to shine in the AI scene after all!

@AlmondSauce at this point, I rather put my efforts in moving to US or Canada.

Honestly, any form of will to stay here has already been annihilated. —said less than a week after arriving.

@NoMad Sure, I was talking generally rather than specific to where you are - I'm sure you'll be able to find good work wherever you happen to end up 🙂

@NoMad Is the cactus attached to root's screwdriver by any chance?? 🤔

Non-devs like to view domains of software development as some kind of hierarchy. The actual ordering varies, but ML engineers are usually viewed as advanced on the grounds that a dev that's unfamiliar with AI would never say "It's outside my comfort zone but I'll give it a shot."

There is something about being depressed and horny. Can describe the feeling but it is what it is.

The upside to an AI degree is that you can get hired at many companies.

Where you can then take 50 weeks trying to explain to them that AI can not provide any meaningful solutions for their business.

"So you're selling spoons. And you want to use AI. What do you want to use AI for? A spoon recommendation engine? Oh, you're only selling one type of spoon! Well... I guess that's enough information, I will implement AI for your business"

@bittersweet contrary to popular belief, I actually can't get hired in many companies. Most don't even think they need it, and some have attachments to bad practices and unhygienic code. (not legacy enough yet, tho)

@sladuled it could be. I'm open to negotiation and new ideas.

@NoMad I think AI, at this stage, should already be taken into account by businesses — not in terms of using it, but in terms of "what kinds of data should we collect and tag, so we can utilize AI in the future".

That kind of consultancy is something you might be able to sell.

@NoMad Plot twist: Clean-shaven men are also devs and you now start a company with it's origins in a closet.

Oh im gonna lose my karma here for sure, but every single ML/AI specialist i have had the pleasure of working with have been a worse developer in everything else than those specialities.

So unless i specifically need ML/AI guys i tend to skip them in interviews given the choice.

    @NoMad Now you're talking!
Hey, @Root, can we borrow your screwdriver?? Pretty please?

@Heliarco I *was* a good [enough] web dev, but honestly, aside from robots and learning I don't even want to be good at anything. So I think it's partially down to choice. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@NoMad Train a network in catering job offers to your personal taste. Might take you a year or two but who knows, I've seen worse startups to flourish.

@cprn or make one that applies on my behalf and make recruiter's work obsolete?

@NoMad If you want to go that far make one that does your job for you, collect salary and spend time solving issues that *really* matter, like that horn business. 👍
