I forgot how much effort job applications were. Like, just writing a cv is a lot of effort, then some companies want a cv and then answer some interview style questions too 🙄

Why do you want to work for us?

"Well, I'd never heard of you before, but I saw your job ad and it looked interesting..."

    Might not go down great..

@AtuM those essay questions are the worst. Bust your ass and write an essay for a company that may not even speak to you

@atheist depends on someone's style of communication in an interview context.

If they prefer criteria-style speech, then telling them why you applied, even just "your ad looked interesting" might legit be enough to at least get a foot in the door and make then relax.

And if they're more procedurally-oriented, telling them a story about how you discovered them might accomplish the same outcome: "that day I had been doing ijk, and a friend told me about your company over text. So I checked you out online, and then decided to apply."

When you're talking to someone you just met in any context, gauge if they tend to answer more with the WHY (criteria) of something, or with a story (procedure) or procedure.

Then when you answer any questions or say something to them reflect it back using the same language they prefer.
