Oh I'm tired of carrying chargers with me. I wish there was something like a wireless distance charger... Kinda like how a WiFi Hotspot can provide wireless connectivity to all devices in the range, I wish there was a Charging Hotspot.

I know this is not exactly dev related but more of physics and engineering, still, anyone has any idea about something like this? Do you think this is feasible?

If you ever do the calculations you'll realize that wire is just better then wireless. I'm sorry.

All we have to do is get this thing off the ground and running.

One day, there'll be no need for batteries and cables and everything will run wireless power, probably not in my lifetime though, but one day.

They are experimenting with drawing power from wifi actually.

It will not power much but for small sensors or devices that only need power occasionally and can charge up over longer time it looked like it might work.

And the wifi signals already exists so no extra loss.

Check it up, it's not worth it

Wireless charging is a waste of energy

@HitWRight thats not what I was referring to.

It will not recharge your phone, but possibly a pair or wireless head phones, especially if the also hav internal battery for buffering.

I only plug my iPhone into a wall overnight. Just use charging pads wherever you go, we’re in 2020 Jesus christ

A full charge lasts 3 days for me. I turn on airplane mode at night and use my phone only when there's a reason to.

Wireless charging is like wanking when you can't even have a boner.

At least every device charges from usb-c these days so you only need one

It seems feasible but the tech is not there yet. Phones will need to consume a lot less power and wireless technology need to bump the charging voltage and distance while controlling the insane amount of heat generated.

@fjrevoredo and waste a fuck ton of energy on wireless transfer

@Voxera Harvesting wi-fi is different than lasers for wireless power delivery.
It was more along the lines of trying to show insanity of laser based power delivery in consumer electronics.
Reading on the article I can see WiFi powered clocks tho, seeing that they could collect ~40 microwatts of power. Not much else 🤔

@HitWRight no not much but enough for IoT sensors an similar, and since Wifi often already is present and sending its practically free power ;)

But as you said, not a replacement for wall outlets in most current usage.
