Dude, I have an acer and an Asus laptop, and the USB ports are next to the power, problem is your modem is twice the size of most USB devices, so can't blame Dell for crappy usb devices.

Lenovo doesn't do that,my USB ports are on the lower part of the laptop while charging port is next to DVD rom, with few centimeters between them
