I have joined the custom android os side

So far GrapheneOS seems really solid.

Though I would have preferred installing devrant through fdroid.

    That'd be hard since devRant isn't OSS

    Elaborate more abt. Graphene please? I thought about switching.

    @Ranchonyx I just know it's apparently the most secure android OS

    @ScriptCoded was there a reason that it wasn't made that?

    @ScriptCoded well one can dream

    @Ranchonyx first time im using a custom phone os, but I have to say im impressed. The install was dead simple, and so far everything worked as expected.
    You even have the (experimental) option to install google play services as a non privileged app. You can couple this with a seperate profile to limit the services scope to the apps you select. I haven't tried this myself yet though, and as i said they consider this feature experimental.

    @Tonnoman No idea actually. @C0D4, @Root, @linuxxx, @heyheni - any idea? (can't remember all of you guys, it's morning...)

    @ScriptCoded 🤷‍♂️

    the D to the Fox never opened her up for freedom 😕

    @ScriptCoded It’s like lineage, but with several improvements like a hardened memory allocator.

    I wanted to run it, but could never find a flashable phone I liked enough.

    @Root Yes yes, I'm well aware of both Graphene and Lineage (or well, "well aware" might be a bit of an overstatement), I was talking about the non-OSS nature of dR.

    As for the likelihood of me ever using an open source mobile OS, it's low. I'm sad to admit that I probably wouldn't make it very far without Google Play Services, and that pretty much defeats most of what having a more security focused device means.

    @ScriptCoded I'd expect it at least to be source available with a proprietary license, I mean, surely no one would care enough to fuck around with dR like that.

    @Root soorry... At least I switched to Linux after a year or two here... Might be Graphene one day too, how knows 🤷

    @Tonnoman Surely you've not seen what happens here at night...

    @ScriptCoded i haven't missed anything related to google play services personally, but that depends on what you use

    On graphene you can actually install google play services and isolate them with the apps that use them in a seperate profile

    @LotsOfCaffeine Huh, that actually sounds interesting... Might have to check it out then!
