dylsteck338y@bobotay oops just realized that Google won because they said it was 'fair use' but oracle should get money from it because android makes so much
-
Think Google eventually switches Android to a different language like Swift?
http://thenextweb.com/dd/2016/... -
dylsteck338y@JavaTheHutt swift is open source but made by Apple which really has a different backbone than google code, but I can see them making their own light language like that in the future
-
@dylsteck it would definitely take a huge effort to make a switch to a new primary language. If they do decide to go that route, then I think the question becomes, like you said, do you make your own language or find a popular/trending open source language. There are pros and cons to both. They could also keep Java, but switch to OpenJDK and kiss Oracle goodbye. I'm very interested to see what they do with Android in the coming years.
-
dylsteck338y@JavaTheHutt good point made but it's time that they make their own language because even if it's open source apple will find something about swift to sue them about if they use it. Android is so widely used its about time Google starts from scratch with it
-
@dylsteck Yeah... I'm just imagining being able to develop apps for iOS and Android in the same language. Haha, someone pinch me.
-
dylsteck338y@JavaTheHutt haha. That'd be odd for Google but make life much easier for developers. But if they make their own language they might want to reduce how many people they let copy android and how it looks because A)so many other companies use it and B) it doesn't function or look the best if Apple only lets themselves use iOS but android spreads it then there isn't much difference in phones
-
@dylsteck you're absolutely right. it wouldn't make much sense for either company. But, as you said, it would make developers' lives easier. And that's what most important, right? 😆
-
dylsteck338y@iakar yeah if they make it more powerful but they actually use GoLang in the code for google.com
