First rule of software engineering: You can never have enough monitors.

    This is so true. Even if there's no space for plus one monitor...
    Now I have two monitors. I would like 3 l, but then I need to buy a new GPU too and I don't have money.
  • 1
    @Csaki you could buy one of these cheap USB graphics cards if you're not planning using the 3rd monitor for anything intensive
  • 2
    Wrong. 3 should be the sweet spot for most developers cause of live preview, documentation, and ide. It can change depending on what exactly you need open but anything not specificly related to what your working on doesn't need a screen(slack,music player,email,etc)

    @jckimble perhaps those things don't need a screen, but it sure is nice to have it on one

    Unlimited work area in VR!

    @boginw Thanks for the advice. 😏

    Thoughts after a week of buying a new monitor: Another monitor would just be perfect.
  • 1
    @boginw not really cause its destractions

    I read an article somewhere that said that one monitor was ideal because it meant less distractions... I agree partially. If you use a monitor just for things like Spotify, slack or emails, than its just distraction.

    anyone here use an ultrawide monitor? is it good?
  • 0
    At most 2 (keep all the background stuff and maybe reference sites on one, IDE on the main).

    I actually use 1 because multi-tasking is a myth; what you actually need is Focus.

    @falmesino I use an ultra wide monitor at home, and at work. It's very useful. I use it for code and db, or photoshop and preview. I have 2 monitors, one normal and one wide. Thumbs up from me.

    @ingipingi welcome to devrant :)

    At home: 2 monitors
    At school: just my little 13" laptop monitor

    I feel so unproductive at school ._.

    @Krokoklemme I never understood why ppl need 2 monitors... I use 1 so I don't get distracted.
  • 1
    @billgates haha I used two for multitasking I want one more for slack/email/stuff

    My perfect setup would be

    Middle IDE
    Left Terminal
    Right Browser
    Up movie

    @billgates neither did I for a long time. I was working with 1 monitor for quite some time and didn't feel like I was missing something, but then I happened to get a 2nd for free and now I don't wanna miss it ^^
  • 1
    @Krokoklemme what would you be missing?
  • 0
    @jpichardo the multitasking cake is a lie!

    Humans do not have multicore processors... Yet.
  • 1
    @billgates haha it is more like non-blocking I/O
  • 1
    @billgates my second monitor

    Sorry, translated that part 1:1 from German and thought it might work out that way xD
  • 0
    @jpichardo movie eh... I can imagine it now...

    var thatgirl = "smoking hot" 😂 (btw... I'm keeping it PG here)
  • 2
    @billgates hahahaha it could go like that, but seriously somehow I concentrate better with something to distract me (Hadn't think it like that sounds weird)
  • 1
    @jpichardo hm... Trivials things other than breathing, yea but not if you need focus.
  • 0
    @j-dev-o Only if you easily let yourself be distracted.
