Android Studio + Emulator + Chrome
I think 8GB is sufficient. Don't need 16.

    Try to open a second tab.

    @ItsNotMyFault even with 10's of tabs open it doesn't use much more

    Fuck, I had Chrome and AS with my phone plugged in, RAM was at 7.2GB (out of 8 :( )

    @Dav13 it is... Kinda doable on my 4G laptop after having moved /tmp from being in-memory to a file

    Your ram is there to be used.
    Don't worry, if dou don't want to fire up anything else large.
    While editing videos i get up to 7.5 out of 8 and my pc never freezes/slows down.

    On my laptop I can have android studio + emulator + opera (2 windows, 5+ tabs in each window) + vivaldi (also 5+ tabs) + 3 instances of PhpStorm + some other software like Spotify, Slack, Terminator etc. 16GB RAM. Everything goes smooth. only emulator can slow down a little with that much load but I don't work like that. I mean, I can because I checked that but there is no point, obviously.

    did you check prices for ram? if not do it now.

    Strange, I don't even dare to do that. At work iMac I use has 8GB of RAM and when I have emulator running I better not have anything other than Safari and Android Studio running it will go crazy.

    If you add more ram, the system will use it. It will use most of the memory it has so i think adding another 8gb should be pretty good :)

    I have same setup with 16 GB and it using 10gb ram, Windows optimize memory :)

    @jschmold It's a i7 4th Gen 4790K :)

    @jschmold No heating problems here at all. I had a choice to buy the 6th Gen too (6700K), but the 4th gen had higher clock and performance. Also, mine isn't even over clocked ;)

    Yet mine uses 7GB with only a couple of chrome tabs and nothing else open ??
