I'm looking at one of my coworkers trying to exit vim for around 20 minutes now. I think she's not asking for help because I already explained to her vim modes and showed her some basic stuff. Should I wait for her to give up and ask for help or just tell her now?

wait... unless she's already sweating... :)

be kind, write :wq on a post-it note and place it descreetly on her desk

The idea is that the wait will help her memorize otherwise, if easy, like asking, she won't...

She already asked me if it's :wq but she's typing it in insert mode

can be :q! if you don't want changes saved

How to exit vim on Stack Overflow just hit a huge milestone.

You can never hit ESC too many times. I just don't get folks who can't exit VIM. At a minimum, write down some basics, and if need be, print out one of the many available cheat sheets; it's really ok.
