I used to pirate everything...
Like doom, dune 2, borland c++ in disks.... There were no other way...
Latter I'll pirate stuff like diablo and visual Studio 5 and 6 cause I didn't had lots of money to pay stuff like that.
Latter I'll only pirate stuff I couldn't pay.
Now days... I'll just look for the open source alternative...
