@NoToJavaScript hmm yeah if you're the kind of person who uses one of those you're probably in a good position to buy another one, seeing as how the only reason I can think of for why anyone could ever want to use that thing is to flex

@ScriptCoded I was accused of many things here on devrant.

But accusing me beeing apple user AND USE THAT SHIOT, it's too much !!

I trust you can find the door yourself.

Apple is one of the most known companies. If you use their shit - you get what deserve.

    @Oktokolo

Well same with oogle, Microsoft, Ubuntu, ArchLinux etc.

I think everyone should just weight what's oj for them.

    For me :

M personal computer (PC for short) will always be Windows. Why ? Ease of use. Video games. Shit just works. Almost no crashes since window8. (11 now).

Mu home server will always be on Ubuntu server. Why ? Ease of use, SSH fully suported from my Windows machine. I'm starting to get hold on the system. I have more than 10 custom scripts 9Some in cron) for ease of live.

My production servers will always be PASS. I don't want to have a docker or a VM, I want just pay a service for hosting and forget about security all together. Let cloud provider manage that.

But hey. that's just me !

@NoToJavaScript Well, Microsoft actually makes pretty decent hardware. It is just their cloud service client launcher that gave them a bad reputation.

BTW: If you use any Windows (version doesn't matter), you should update immediately. They patched a remote code execution over maliciously crafted ICMP packets recently. Rumors are that while the vulnerability is wormable, it only affects machines while anything is listening on a raw socket... but who knows, whether that condition actually holds in practice (and whether some snake oil on your system isn't just doing that for "advanced threat protection" or whatever).

    @Oktokolo Ty for the tip.

But now, let's break it down.

My production should already be patched, I don't even need to look at it. (In this case Azure has 100% liability, as per contract of PASS).

My home server under Ubuntu server ? Not even in the same group.

My home PC : Well, I checked. Updates are installed. I'll assume it's safe. (And there is literally 0 open ports lol on NAT to this machine. Linux machines has 3 forwards)

@Oktokolo Went a small rabit hole.

    https://bleepingcomputer.com/news/...

Fixes CVE-2023-23415 (Which is the thing you were talking about).

Installed on my end, but I would guess half (or more) of windows park still don't have a fix.

@NoToJavaScript Lots of people turn off auto update because Microsoft doesn't respect boundaries and is well-known for botching updates real hard.

I actually do manual updates myself because i really don't want to be interrupted while gaming.

@NoToJavaScript Wonderfully composed reply. Though I was referring to the poster.

I tend to shun folks who don’t use a Magic Mouse. I currently have two you know and might get the black one too just because!

Does it run out of battery too often? My main problem with the Magic Mouse is the ergonomics are horrendous, I once even saw a cushion for sale that you put on the back side of the mouse to elevate your hand, making it half usable. I gave up on it before the battery ran out.

I tried it once, I have no idea how people use it. The gestures are cute and all, but don’t make up for the rest of the product being shit.

But but just works, it's a feature!

I get caught out by that regularly, it’s a design flaw that they won’t address. Although if you plug it in and make a coffee, when you get back it has enough juice to carry on till the next cup.

See my rant from 6 years ago….

YDI for using apple-crap in the first place
  • 1
@helloworld wait, how are you still using that thing after 6 years?
  • 1
@electrineer I get a new mac every 3 years. It comes with a tragic mouse. You learn to live with it, like a dodgy leg.

@tosensei I use mac cos it’s the best for graphic design and overall stability and great fir web dev using nova. Each to there own but I am a lifelong mac user and not about to change now.

@helloworld Yes. Elegant for work and productivity
  • 2
@Oktokolo cloud service client launcher... You mean Windows? 😅
  • 2
@ScriptCoded Yep. That is as what Microsoft seems to want to see their identity product now.

I mean: If you would be a real diehard Microsoft fanboi, you would use Windows like that: Boot up, log in, start the cloud Exchange client. Maybe start the cloud Office client. Maybe start Visual Studio to develop cloud services using Microsoft Azure's cloud services. Obviously you also start a browser - mostly for cloud services.

The only thing preventing Microsoft going all-in on that cloud service client louncher paradigm is that they also make money from the PC gaming market. But they surely would like you rather playing games on an XBOX instead...

It is somewhat sad actually. I experienced the rise of Windows since 3.11 and liked the progress till Windows 7 (i turn all that animations and plastic stuff off though). They are going downhill with the OS now.

@helloworld so you use mac because you're indoctrinated by apple and are afraid of change. got it.
