It is a biased industry with the description you state because there was gender discrimination and people were forced not to go into those areas. This is such trash.
The women I work with put most of the men to shame. The younger generation is rocking it male or female. I've had male hair stylists that out women to shame and the men are straight in case you think that as an excuse.
Shits ridiculous in this day and age for real.
I've sat all week watching female engineers get shit from guys that can't do their jobs half as good and want to tear these girls down to make themselves feel and look better. -
@Louma I guess that makes sense and maybe I just read it wrong.
Usually you don't see that kind of thing here.
This week lots of interns onsite so the senior guys were being sexist assholes and I took this post wrong, maybe...I mean it does say there's nothing wrong with it -
I had a passion of taking things apart and putting them back together since I was a toddler. I always wanted to fix things even if they weren't broken. I had this curiosity inside me to find out how things worked.
That is the very same curiosity that was trampled by every adult who ever told me to go and play with my dolls and give up on being an engineer. Girls aren't good at math. What was I thinking!?
And that is exactly what I did. I became an obedient little girl who felt that she wasn't loved if she did what she wanted.
Greatest mistake I ever made. I was 23 when I finally took the courage to go against everything I was ever told.
Now I am studying to be a web dev. I have never been more satisfied with my life before.
My only regret is that I listened to people who told me to stay away from boyish things like engineering and programming.
And I know that this isn't only me.
People who don't (care) to understand the problem make me sad. -
Mrcheese8827y@Louma @Devintrix
Louma got what I ment. I have no problem at all working with women. What I mean is some companies are refusing people jobs because there male, because they want a 50/50 ratio of male/female -
Mrcheese8827y@FreezaPlanet419
I'm not sure I've explained what I meant well.. I don't have anything against female programmers. I'm against not hiring programmers for the sake of a ratio -
I think that the solution is to encourage women to learn to program. Then, instead of choosing by gender, companies can choose employees by skill level alone.
-
@Mrcheese Thank you for explaining and please forgive me for misunderstanding what you tried to say. Years and years of people telling you that you were stupid really makes people salty ( @Louma ) and it is really hard to talk about this topic without feelings getting in the way.
And yes I agree that a 50/50 qouta is a bad idea, but on the other hand I know that women need more encouragement to overcome everything they encountered up this point of their lives. -
@Louma I am reading back all the comments ( including mine ) up to this point and I really feel bad. I am sorry for my impulsiveness and jumping into conclusions. @Mrcheese I am really sorry for putting you through this.
I realise that my behaviour is not helping the problem.
I would like to thank you all for making me see myself as you see me. -
plusgut60137y@FreezaPlanet419 good for you, that at you are now doing what you like and don't let people talk you down.
We all should encourage everyone in our society to do what they enjoy. -
@Louma and that is why you need to talk with others with am open mind so you can show your 2d image to others and learn about theirs. I see. Thank you! :)

As a female, I honestly don't care, as long as people (of either gender) aren't told "no" solely because of their gender. Not many girls and young women want to spend hours at a time coding, or setting up IDS, or troubleshooting what's wrong. And that's fine. If there's a guy legitimately more qualified for a job I've applied to, I hope he gets it. I'm annoyed that managers and corporations feel the need to go out if their way to hire women for jobs, skipping over men who may do the job better.
However, if the woman applying is better qualified than the man, hire her and make her equal to those at her qualification level. -
SHA-25614467yForcing a 50/50 Ratio is dumb...let's say you have the choice between a male which fits perfectly for the job and a female which barely knows how to Program...refusing the male just because you want that 50/50 ratio is stupid.

I agree there's a lot of fuss over it, but I don't think jobs should be gender dominated, that leads to people saying a certain sex can't do a job because it's mostly one gender. The real issue is ducks, they're all cloning themselves and turning us into slaves via social media.
I talk too much when I'm stoned. -
@FreezaPlanet419 omg, same thing here! My math teacher said to me "I will pass you if you promise not to study tech, you cannot do that".
As a good girl (because anybody wants to be the odd one) I finished "Social studies" and i was the saddest person alive. I needed someone to tell me "you can do it" everyday for years to dare to study something different. Now I'm in software engineering and looks like the world finally has sense. -
@Devintrix when you have a total pool of potential employees at a ratio of 5 to 1 you can't somehow make it into a 50 50.
-
God this is such a retarded argument. I had like 2 girls graduate with me from comp sci. There just aren't enough girls getting into it. I'm sick of people talking like they are all being told they can't do it or that we're all misogynists.

nickj33ok people where is the gender equality??? why do people assume that im studying tourism when its so clear that...
Anyone else feel this 50/50 male/female work melarky is just silly. Most programmers are men. It shouldn't be more complex then that. Most beautitions are women. Nothing wrong with work being gender dominated... imo
