Why do companies give promotion/hike to individual based on their team's importance in the company rather than that individual's performance??
I mean how is it my fault that you put me in a team which is not your main focus??

    That is your team's lead fault.

    Even if you are in a team that doesn't drive at the forefront, if your team lead is not an insecure prick, or a dejected dead weight, he should put word for you (assuming you are actually an overperformer, heavy danger of confirmation bias here), and you would get a hike or a transfer.

    My TL is not insecure nor dead weight, but rather he is new to management. Still transitioning from developer to manager phase. He praises us internally within the team, just forgets to do on a org level :(
